DC65 is the most powerful upright vacuum on a ball, with twice the suction of any other vacuum. It uses Radial Root Cyclone technology and a reconfigured brush bar to remove more dirt and dust from the home. The redesign of the brush bar means that the bristles have been made shorter and stiffer allowing deeper carpet penetration to remove more dirt, while maintaining superior performance on hard floors. The DC65 cleans better than any other vacuum across carpets and hard floors. It achieves this through the combination of Radial Root Cyclone technology and a self-adjusting cleaner head which seals in suction across carpets and hard floors. The latest Ball technology allows easy steering into difficult places. More key technologies are housed inside the ball, reducing components on the outside of the machine. Removing clutter from around the ball makes it even easier to steer under and around furniture. Other vacuums have a choice of settings for different floor types. This means that when moving from one floor type to another, suction power can be wasted. DC65 has an active base plate which self-adjusts to create optimal contact with every floor type. This reduces air leaks and retains more suction power at the cleaner head. Suction tested against upright market to ASTM F558 at the cleaner head, dust-loaded as per IEC 60312-1. Tested against upright market, dust-loaded, using ASTM F608, ASTM F2607 and IEC 60312-1 5.1, 5.9.

Answer:
Hi Owner,
It's Vince with Dyson. The DC65 Animal is designed to handle both carpets, hardwoods and laminate flooring. We recommend disengaging the brush bar when using the unit on hardwoods and laminates. We will be happy to provide additional details on the functionality of the DC65 via email at askdysonus@dyson.com.
Best wishes,

in fact it does and the sticker on the machine shows that you push it forward after returning to the upright position till it clicks and then it will stay.

Answer:
Yes, it does. It requires a fair amount of forward force to the point of practically lifting the back wheels off the floor. Rather disappointing for such a otherwise fantastic vacuum.

Hi this is Joe From Dyson,
Thank you for your interest. Like all of our upright style vacuums, DC65 locks into the upright position for storage and when utilizing the wand or hose for cleaning furniture and other cleaning tasks.
Please let us know if you have any other questions and we will be in touch as soon as possible.
Best wishes,
Joe

Answer:
Hi LeeAnn. It's Vince with Dyson. The DC65 is not designed with a retractable power cord. Two cable winders secure the powercord to the back of the unit for easy storage. We will be happy to answer any additional questions you have regarding the DC65 via email at askdysonus@dyson.com.m

Can I stop the suction in the upright position?

This question is from DC65 Animal Upright Vacuum
March 27, 2014
Hi! I just got this vacuum and love it, except one thing... when I click it into the upright position, it automatically starts sucking in the wand, which means it attempts to suck in my hand, hair, etc. because the wand is facing up at me. Any way to stop this? The DC25 had a solid cap, whereas this one has slots on top.

Answer:
Not that I know of. The vented cap was probably designed to avoid sucking in body parts. I had one of the original Dyson models with the same feature only much more noisy. It's probably safest to turn it off.

Hi it's Joe at Dyson,
The wand cap is slotted to help protect against loose fitting clothing that may have otherwise been sucked into the wand. The cap was solid on the DC25, as the DC25 does not have suction from the wand unless the wand is deployed.
If the wand cap were solid on the DC65, the self-defense mechanism (thermal cut out) would engage as it would cause the machine to overheat.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 1971 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Strong Suction This vacuum is very well built. My personal opinion is that there is not a better made machine made today. Although I have obviously not used every vacuum on the market, I can not imagine there being a better one. You'll have to try one to see what I mean. That's the good news. The only other things I'll say is that it has almost to much suction.. It could pull the threads out of your carpets and it is VERY heavy. I have a smaller Dyson that is much smaller, lighter and much more maneuverable. I got this machine on sale at a significant price reduction. I would not have purchased it at the MSRP. $600.00 Just WAY to much to pay for a vacuum cleaner. August 18, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do Not Buy Dyson Dyson is a nightmare when it comes to service. The vacuum never worked right, and I have gotten such a run-around from Dyson for three months. Don't buy Dyson. They don't stand in back of their products. If you ever need to fix it (even in the warranty period), they have you ship it back to them, then they send it back to you in the same broken condition claiming it's fixed. A nightmare. Buy anything but Dyson. I think they want you to finally give up getting it fixed. Which is what I finally did. You call their service number and they keep on transferring you around until someone finally hangs up. Like something out of Kafka. June 16, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DYSON DC65 SUCKS! We finally replaced our old Hoover wind tunnel self propelled antique. This new Dyson puts Hoover to shame. Easier to use, stronger, more versatile and surprisingly easy to push (being used to the self propelled). Aside from its modern looks, my concern was its somewhat fragile looks with all the plastic. We were wrong, it looks good and works even better. The con(s): THE PRICE, short of the ridiculously high end Filter Queen, $500 is a lot to spend on a sweeper. There is a saying: quality and reliability will always win out over good deals and low prices. Hopefully this is true. So far I am very impressed with Dyson and will continue to drink the kool-aid... Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by DC65 Animal Is Great For Capturing Pet Hair This is a powerful vacuum. We were amazed at how much pet hair was pulled from our floors. One thing that Dyson needs to enhance on this vacuum cleaner is to reinforce the handle. It seems to be made out of very thin plastic and we're afraid that it might break in use. Also the extension hose is not user friendly. You really have to use two hands to use it and it'll give you a workout. The vacuum is pretty heavy also, so it gets cumbersome to pick it up and move it. The price is a little steep at $600+. Other than this, it has the best suction of any vacuum cleaner we've ever owned. It also has a 5 year OEM warranty, so it appears they stand behind their product. September 3, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Vacuum Great Vacuum, carpet looks like it new . It pulls dirt out of the carpet that other vacuum missed. May 19, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not near the vacume I assumed itwould be. I bought this vacume about two years ago, hoping for a great exp.I got it out of the box and realized the quality was not near what you would think. The first thing that went wrong was it lost the great suction very fast.To keep suction up I would empty it after every two rooms. After a couple of months it did not regain its original suction and yes, I did clean and wash filters as instructions said. Next the left side of the steering ball broke off. Now the brush has stopped rotating. I did not keep up with the receipt so I am chaulking thus up to a lesson learned.Oh, I am back to using my $39.00 dirt devil. I hope this review makes the list, but I wouldn't be surprized if it doesnt. I know its my fault that I did not keep up with the receipt. And I should have returned it very soon after the purchase. So , now I'm just taking the hit for my mistake, but, I thought I would pass the bad quality expiriance to the next crust. I am still using my 35. February 16, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overall I like it Overall I like it, however, having used a regular vacuum for years, I feel this one, with the pivot ball, takes getting used to maneuvering it. I also feel the upright "lock" mechanism is not very sturdy. As far as the suction goes, it's better than all Bissel and Hoovers I've had over the years. I have dogs and this one picks up the hair better than the others. February 25, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Purchased because I can not use a regular vacuum. The advertisement leads one to believe it will do the job when in fact it does not explain the real story The product features need to be reviewed. The vacuum was evidently never had a design review before being manufactured. Things like what could go wrong and how to prevent it. March 3, 2015
