Customer Questions & Answers

What is the actual power output of the motor. I can't find it advertised anywhere.

Asked by: chris
ECHO's SRM-410U features an engine displacement of 42.7 cc. ECHO does not do testing for horsepower ratings because there is no standard between companies or regulations on accuracy of the information that the companies provide. However, the EPA does do testing on all manufacturers for horsepower, torque and emissions. The results of the EPA testing can be found on the EPA website. The results are listed under "Nonroad Small Spark-Ignition Engine Certification Data" and the file is called "2007 - 2011 Model Year Engine Family and Models & Parts Information" http://www.epa.gov/OMS/certdata.htm#smallsi

Echo Heavy Duty Fixed Line Head

Can the ECHO 99944200220 Heavy Duty Fixed Line Head be used with the SRM-410U? If so, can it be used with the blade guard or is a trimmer guard required? If a trimmer guard is required, what are guard details?

So you can change the head to use string? And does that part come with it?

10 in. Straight Shaft Gas Brush Cutter is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 40.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Capability! I have a significant amount of cedar (invasive juniper) to clear on my property. Trees range from 1" -12" in diameter. Obviously I can't cut the big trees with this brush cutter, but for anything up to about 2.5" this tool is an absolute dream! I did replace the standard cutting blade with an 80 tooth carbide tipped blade, and we made short work of the small juniper trees mixed in with all the large ones. A tank of gas lasted for over an hour so I was able to stay on task and cut cedar instead of having to continuously refuel. The provided harness is a must because the tool gets heavy nearing the end of the fuel fill, but once I balanced the tool on the single point attachment, the ergonomics were fine. I have heard that Echo has modified their 2-cycle engines to accept ethanol gas and I was very pleasantly surprised to find this apparently true. For three weeks of cutting, and too many refuelings to count, the tool started each time on the first or second pull. I did slightly downgrade on ease of use, but to be fair, any 6' tool attached to your hip will be a bit cumbersome. Echo has done a good job with the guidance handles, but you do have to pay attention. The ability to keep on the move while clearing cedar proved invaluable to me and my work partner. We'd choose a chunk of land, clear all the little stuff, then come back with a chainsaw. Not having to use the chainsaw on the small stuff was a life (and back) saver. I wholeheartedly recommend this tool to landowners who have a real clearing job in front of them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The starting instructions were easy to follow and it started right up. I have done a lot of hand... The starting instructions were easy to follow and it started right up. I have done a lot of hand pruning on woodland trails and this brush cutter works like the Star Wars light sabers cutting through saplings is one easy swipe. I thought I missed one inch and a quarter diameter sapling but as I watched, the top part slowing fell over. The harness that it came with worked well in holding the weight and letting the cutter do its work. It ran for an hour on one tank of gas. I am calling mine "Light Saber".

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Brush Cutter for the price I bought this for clearing some mountain property I own and it works quit well. I would have given it a 5 star rating however I need to point out that the bracket that attaches it to the harness is week and needs to be redesigned. The triangle link attaching it to the main body is not welded together and it came apart on the 1st day and we had to use a piece of heavy guage wire to finish off the day. Other than that the SRM410U is a winner! Nice machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW what a beast Very happy with my decision to purchase this unit Easy to assemble, started right up. And has plenty of power to cut all I need it to. I would recommend to upgrade the shoulder harness for comfort though, the standard one that is included is not very comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of power! I have to clear a LOT of buckthorn from my 8 acres of woods. So far this brush cutter is tearing through it like a hot knife through butter! I have an ECHO backpack blower as well, and you will not go wrong spending your morning net on an ECHO product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The product was just as descrbed and has all the features of a good brush cutter. I have had a number of brush cutters over the years and found the Echo product to be one of the best brush cutters that I have ever owned. The only drawback that I found was with the blade, which is likely adequate for most owners, but I needed a blade that could be easily sharpened. Therefore, I ordered a 9 inch Beaver blade to cut some of the larger brush on our property. The Echo starts readily, has plenty of power, and rapidly cuts through brush and small trees. It is a high quality and truly great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Echo Brush Cutter did the job I ordered the brush cutter after reading reviews and wasn't disappointed. I used it effectively to clean out the woods on my properly. It took me a while to realize that you don't use it like a saw even though it has a saw blade. It worked when used that way but required a lot more time and effort than necessary. I found out that the most effective way to use the cutter is to use it like a "chop saw". In other words, get the saw going and chop at the item you are cutting. This worked like a charm to cut through saplings up to 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter. I have been well satisfied with other Echo products and expect to get good service from the brush cutter for quite some time. One thing worth noting. The harness that came with the unit is kind of uncomfortable. Adjusting it can help but it was still uncomfortable for me. You might want to order a different harness. I have just coped with it so far. One last thing, the brush cutter seemed rather pricy to me but it definitely saved me a lot time, effort and wear and tear on my joints! It was a nice birthday present that I bought for myself.
