Customer Questions & Answers

What is the difference between model ppt-266 and ppt-266H?

Echo Pole saws look alike and cost the same ...model # is different...why?
Asked by: dc7
The advantages of the two handles, in my opinion, are; 266 - Very comfortable if you intend to use the harness and keep the saw at your side. Movement forward and up is limited by the ergonomic handle. 266h - Allows you to move the saw around to all positions. Raising the saw forward or up above your head gives you 2-3ft more reach than the 266. To do so requires a fair amount of strength and adequate operator mass as a counterbalance.

Ordinarily I don't spend this kind of money on a tool I don't use all the time, but I had access to a turn of the century model of this saw and became convinced of its durability. I was one of maybe a dozen folks who used that older saw, homeowners all, and I assure you that thing saw a variety of skill and care levels. Nothing, or no one could kill it. Keep the blade sharp, try not to bend the bar and this thing will last a lifetime. I was 20 years younger and stronger (I'm 70 now) when I started using using it and while I can still handle it, it takes a fit person to use it. Why? It's not light. And it extends. So, when you've got it extended, you and your arms form the fulcrum of a lever (or teeter-totter) with the weight out on the end. Your work will largely be over-head. That's why you bought the pole saw right? You'll soon discover your limits regarding how long to extend it, how low an angle at which it can be supported and how long you can use it before fatigue sets it. That said, this saw will save you time (no ladders needed). It can handle anything up to about 15' off the ground. I never had any trouble starting it, even the old one I used. It has a shoulder strap that might make handling it easier, but I've never bothered with it. If you have a lot of pruning to do that would require a climber or a ladder, this saw will do it. I wouldn't buy it to use once or twice a year unless you've got money to burn. Maintain this thing and it will outlast you. It can also get you into a lot of trouble if you're stupid. Don't be stupid. .

Fairly easy to do following included instructions. Only encountered one problem. The engine component was attached too far back and would not allow the drive cable to fully connect. Echo customer service was a big help. It was a simple matter of loosening the clamp and sliding the engine forward on the shaft then retightening the clamp. Starts easily. Runs great. This machine is heavy duty. If you are not in good physical shape, it will be difficult to manage. Cuts really well. Picture shows bolt that locks engine to shaft. (Just ahead of orange plastic on silver ring ) Notice compressed rubber collar. I had to snug the engine forward compressing this. Easy once you know the adjustment is there.

The only complaint I have is that ur brush pile is larger than ever. Easy to put together (one minor chip in the pole paint), not too heavy, great extension. I know that we will be getting a lot of use out of this. We live on a 2 acre wooded property.

Easy to control even after adding 4 ft extension. Heavy so can only use in 10 minutes interval. Cut thru oak branches like butter. Noise level is much better than regular chain saw.

After working for a large city in Texas that used the Echo brand I knew which pole saw I wanted. One that would do the job and last for many years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product The PPT-266H pole pruner is very sturdy and easy to use. It has excellent reach at just over 12ft and with the option of a 4ft extension gives it even more versatility. I had a smaller homeowner split shaft pole pruner from a different company which just couldn't quite handle the usage (gears wore out) and even though that one was half the size it wasn't as easy to balance as the echo is. I will say the echo is a little weighty but not unreasonable. So far the only thing I would ask echo to change is the switch it really would be nice to have one that resets instead of sliding on and off but that obviously isn't a deal breaker on this nice saw.
