Is this a climbing ring on the back to hold the saw on your belt

Best match for me?

I am looking for a chainsaw that my helper can use to cut down 3-4 dead trees that range from 1-2 feet diameter and about 40 feet. In the past I have purchased the cheaper homelite brands due to the weight since I can use one but don't want the heaviness. They have not lasted very long. Not sure what size to get. One that will be good for me and a guy. Looks like echo gets pretty good reviews. I also live in California and realize I have restrictions. One more reason, unfortunately, why it's getting harder and harder to live here. Any recommendations?

I realize this is an old post, but the info may help someone else: If you plan to climb the tree (with a saddle and ropes, etcetera) and bring it down section by section, then yes, this will be a good saw choice. It's really an arborist saw intended for climbers, as are all top-handled saws. Top handled saws aren't as safe to work with on the ground as rear-handled saws- Because of the handle configuration, top-handled saws have less "kick-back" control. If you don't know what kick-back is, Google it. If you have space to safely fell the tree from the ground, I'd recommend a rear-handled saw. You might be tempted to get a big saw thinking bigger is better, but you'll fatigue sooner with a big, heavy saw. Do be careful cutting down trees; it's a dangerous thing to do, There's actually a lot of solid, useful information in your owner's manual (that comes with the saw) about how to safely fell trees. If you have any doubt about your ability, have a professional do the work.

Customer Reviews

14 in. 35.8cc Gas Chainsaw is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from CS-355T, Excellent Value I purchased this saw for in tree work. Reasons being the price, weight, power, and features compared to other brands sold locally. A five year warranty is a bonus. I have used it to cut about half of a cord of firewood(locust, ash, and oak) to this date. Nothing larger than 8" diameter and the saw ran like a big saw, not an problems. I can see myself using this saw to do more ground work than originally planned. I have several other saws. The ergonomics of this top handle arborist saw are very comfortable and functional. The saw used less than a tank of fuel and oil to cut this amount of wood. I have yet to try it while in a tree.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good little saw Just purchased this while my CS-346 was down for repairs. Spent a weekend in a boom lift trimming live oaks and palm trees and put 6 tanks through the 355T. I couldn't be happier with this little guy. I dropped everything from 12" live oak limbs to Washington Palm fronds and seed pods. For me it's an ideal pruning saw with an 18" low profile bar. I don't consider this or any top handle as a ground saw. If you aren't working in the air or overhead, I would recommend a rear handle saw. Did the muffler mod after the weekend and now it screams like a banshee...looking forward to the fall trim. ps..if the 346 is toast, I won't hesitate to replace it with the 361P (same powerhead)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from CS355T for tough little saw I bought this saw 2 weeks ago when my Stihl 026 needed repairs & I had work that needed to continue. This saw is also smaller & lighter that a rear-handle saw & therefore less tiring to use when the job doesn't call for a larger saw. I had previously owned an Echo CS300T that was a very good saw. The ONLY problem I have is that Echo does NOT make a suitable ToughCase for these small top-handle saws. The smallest ToughCase is still 4 inches too long in scabbard & the box is ⅓ larger than necessary. We NEED cases for these arborist saws!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best trim saw I've ever used I started professionally climbing trees when I was 9. I got my first saddle from sherrill tree and I grew from there. I'm now 20 and have worked in the tree business full time since I was 16. I have used many top handle saws and this ones takes the win. I just recently purchased mine about two weeks ago and I can already say best top handle saw for in the the tree in my opinion. I had problems with other saws being to heavy constantly pulling your saddle down and it's just a bear to wrestle around a heavy saw all day but now with the echo 355T. It's very light weight durable and eats wood like no other. I would recommend this saw for any arborist.
