Is it safe to use 40:1 fuel/oil mix ratio in this blower

I've been using a 50:1 fuel/oil mix ratio in this blower w/o any problems for some time now, but I have other tools that require a 40:1 ratio and would prefer not having to prepare two different premixes. Would it be safe to use a 40:1 premix in this blower, and are there any downsides to doing this ?
Asked by: Supertool
First, use 89 octane gasoline as Echo recommends. Second, I use a synthetic blend 2 stroke oil and mix a 40:1 ratio in all my 2 cycle powered outdoor equipment-a very old snow blower, newer chain saw and my Echo leaf blower. They all run very well and have never fouled a spark plug at the 40:1 ratio. A little extra oil will help protect all your 2 stroke power equipment. I was a licensed auto engine mechanic in Michigan over 25 years ago, so I know a little about 2 and 4 stroke engines and oils to use. Years ago when the manufacturers started using the 50:1 gas to oil ratio in their 2 stroke engines, they started seeing more engine failures. Then the synthetic blend oil was developed and used to help alleviate the problem and has worked pretty good.

The blower works well - except for the REALLY Lame plastic choke lever they put on the carburetor. The darn thing broke in a way that I couldn't tell that it wasn't actually working the flap over the intake opening. In my case the flap was then in the choke 'on' position and I couldn't get the blower to start. I knew the spark plug was getting excess gas mixture, but couldn't understand way. It wasn't until I started to disassemble things that I found that the plastic lever was broken. I've gone ahead and made a brass lever to replace the LAME plastic one. Using plastic for that part is REALLY Stupid - it's way to vulnerable too breaking.

Over the years I have had all manner and manufacture of blowers for my residential use. First let me say that I am very "particular" about the use of tools and ultimately the appearance of my lawn(s) (another story). I've had electric (battery) blowers as well as gas, and to the extent I can, I prefer the environmentally sound option, and to that end I currently own BOTH a gas and and battery blowers. If I have to blow out a few leaves, dust, or dirt out of the garage, it gets the battery version (also from Home Depot a Rigid "Jobsite") as it doesn't have to be primed and started and there are no fumes and again, easy on the environment. But when it comes to getting things done quickly and efficiently, wow, this one gets it DONE with a 165mph wind. Plus, this thing starts almost eerily- push the primer bulb 2 or three times, pull it once (maybe, twice) and you are off and running (that said, I do, as I do with every engine from car on down, let it run and warm up before using.) So a minute after the primer you are off to accomplish the given task. This is the third Echo product I have owned. The first was an old version of this blower that had been sitting for 2-3 years. I called their customer service and with the help of them and a bottle of "Mechanic in a Bottle" it started- and ran for a couple years. It was replaced with this blower. PS: The only reason I am writing this is that I was on the HD site to buy yet another Echo product, one of their gas trimmers.

It is now April 2017 and I am finally getting around to getting rid of the leaves that have been on my lawn since last fall. The leaves have been matted down over the winter, literally forming large flat sheets about 1/4 inch thick. This leaf blower actually lifts them up-------power with this thing is NOT an issue. Also, it is very comfortable to use. Just make sure you read the instructions and follow them. And mix the 2 cycle oil with the fuel WELL. Shake it up in the fuel container so it mixes well. I am 100% satisfied with this leaf blower. I am glad that I did not spend more on the larger models or the backpacks. I will say it again, this thing packs more power than you will ever need.

Why this is better then the back pack you can switch hands where as a back pack your stuck always using your right hand. I use it every time I cut the grass. Clearing off the driveway and walkways. Use it after edging. I've climb on my roof and cleared leaves. I use it to clean out my gutters. I use it to clean out dust in the garage. Clean off my tractor. Even used it to blow snow off the cars and walkways. It works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice little machine Had to ask some manly men to help me start it after a frustrating hour following the instructions (I'm a handy female aged 66) which had me in a "flooding the engine" loop. Now I flip switch to choke, pull cord ONCE, flip switch to run, pull cord all the way a couple of times, and you're good to go. Luggage carrier straps go thru handle and over my shoulder.

I think I bought it in December 2016, a couple days before christmas. It has last me this long and I use it daily. Helps me blow garden beds clean, and leaves up under bushes, and clears driveways too. Still hadn't got it serviced yet because it doesn't need any maintenance on it just yet. And it starts up like you couldn't believe. (Just follow the start-up instructions located on the blower) and it'll turn on the 2nd pull every time! But I love the power on it, you can feel it on the trigger. One of the best buys I ever bought. Definitely powers through the job. Worth every penny.
