It could NOT be easier... Simply loosen the large black wing nut, press the umbrella style locking nipple and remove. Reverse order to switch to the next attachment. 10 seconds maybe!

This is a straight shaft, not a curved shaft trimmer. The edger has a slight curve to do its job, but the trimmer has a straight shaft.

Both pictures on the Home Depot website picture the straight shaft edger attachment. I would assume the Home Depot is shipping what they have pictured. They would never picture a more expensive edger attachment and ship a less expensive one, would they?

The only attachments for this combo package is the trimmer and the edger, but there are many other attachments that you can buy. An example you can attach a blower and a hedge trimmer, you can find all attachments by searching echo trimmer attachments on the HD site.

The warmup period is not unique to Echo. Allow me to explain why.
The engine's cylinder is fabricated from cast aluminum and has a stainless steel sleeve pressed in. The piston rings slide against the stainless steel as the piston moves in the cylinder. The two different metals have different expansion coefficients. That is, the stainless steel will expand faster than the aluminum casting for a given temperature increase.
This means 1) that in order to prevent the expanding stainless steel sleeve from cracking the aluminum cast, the sleeve has a relatively loose fit (snug, but not real tight), and 2) when the engine is cool, the piston rings are tight against the sleeve. Running at full power in this condition can cause excessive wear of both the rings and the sleeve. As the temperature rises, the sleeve expands and tightens against the aluminum, and the rings loosen slightly to provide smoother operation and less wear.
As such, it is best to allow the engine to warm up before asking the engine to produce a lot of power. This is a good procedure to follow on any air-cooled engine fabricated from cast aluminum. Read Less

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Significantly under powered for edger I just purchased this, based on the quality of my current Echo SRM - 2100 trimmer. Planned to use the old, still working great after a carb replacement a year ago, at our lake house. This new unit does not have the RPMs or power of the old unit. Easily came to a complete stop when edging. Seriously considering a return because of how under powered it is for the task. Quality is good, but it does seem heavier than my old unit as well. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Way under powered for the edger attachment I just purchased this, based on the quality of my current Echo SRM - 2100 trimmer. I'm rating quality low because it is a significantly under powered unit. You have to get the edger up to speed, then start the edging. Putting the edger down first causes it to not even start moving the edger blade. June 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Working it at 5'4" Previously owned a battery operated trimmer and edger, but got tired of buying and replacing batteries. I am a 5'4" female and was ready to graduate to something more hearty. It took a few uses to learn what worked for me, but I am very happy with my choice. I use a shoulder strap for ease of use for my stature. Easy startup (make sure you read the instructions!). And the balance is excellent for me to use. The handle is quite comfortable (once adjusted for my height). It came with the speedloader head which is even better for reloading trimmer line. July 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great and a fantastic value Had read other reviews both pro and con, some saying not enough power but thought I would give it a try since so many other good reviews. Put the gas in, primed and started on the third pull. It does a great job and handled everything that I tried it on. I'm so happy with it that I'll more than likely add the pole saw and mini tiller attachments. The unit can be a little heavy per some reviews but I if I trim first then edge, I've had no problems with it aggravating a bad back. I look forward to many years of use out of this jewel. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product I've had it for a few months. Not a pro user but a consumer. This product does all that it says it would. The only thing I noticed is that the tube gets very hot at the attachment (right below the holding handle). I mean if you just used a trimmer and want to switch to an edger, you have to use some thick gloves or wait for 5-6 min for the tube to cool down before switching the attachment. I mean it gets so hot that you can't use bare hands. But like I said, I'm a consumer user...so I can wait til it cools and grab a drink in the fridge. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic Tool for Homeowner This combination set of edger and trimmer is outstanding. The motor is easy to start, and the trimmer and edger are easy to swap on and off the motor part, easy to use, and they do the job without a lot of effort. Although I've only used this tool combination for a few weeks, they appear to be sturdy enough to work for a long long time without trouble. The way the trimmer string holder works is brilliant. Far better than any other system I've used before. I would heartily recommend this product. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good purchase After using other brands in the past, I am very impressed with this product. The Edger is much easier to use and produces a great looking result. Changing from trimmer to edger is easy and has less issues than past products from different manufactures. I would buy again. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great trimmer likes PRO!! Easy changing the attachment, quick start up & much more power than my 10yrs old craftsman trimmer. The weight is about right July 6, 2016
