I bought this saw in a package deal to replace my ailing Craftsman of 20+ years. The features are nice and the saw cuts wood like butter but lacks some power for very large logs. I like the easy access filter would have liked slightly better toolless chain tightening. The case is too boxy (could be smaller) and the chain cover comes off and on too tightly. The saw starts very easily every time. The chain brake doesn't seem too useful.

Have used this chainsaw to cut down 2 large trees one trunk 32" in diameter and another 26" in diameter. Also several small trees. Starts on 1st or second pull every time and cuts fast with no effort. Would not trade for any other brand. Great features including primer bulb and auto type air filter.

My 3rd Echo saw. CS310, AND A CS 352 I reviewed a year ago here. As promised I purchased a CS400. If you wonder why the small saws, the 10 pound power head of the CS400 is all I really can handle in my decrepit old man condition, and I wanted a little more power for bucking. CS400 is another amazing value from Echo. I made a decision to void my warranty because of some fir and larch I work. I made my own muffler from scratch and tore it down for some minor port work. And please, this is not a brag on me, rather on Echo. The internals are exquisite, and I took great care in the work. Well, let me tell you, my friends and relatives describe it as "howling". It maintains 10,500 to 11,000 RPM in 12 " fir and larch. Using it since March with Echo Red Armor , and it starts two pulls cold, and a short tug warm every time. Just like stock! I lost no flexibility. As soon as the clutch hooks, I have useable power. Limbing is effortless. Stock, this saw will last an average homeowner a lifetime . Since March I now have an Echo trimmer,an Echo blower, and my son in law purchased an Echo CS 590 . Next, I plan on purchasing a CS361P . Seriously, no choice but Echo for me.

So far, I've used this saw about 6 separate times, each time with a little more appreciation of it. This is really all a homeowner needs for tree maintenance on their property. There are bigger bars, more powerful engines, but they all come with a higher cost. Why spend more to get more than you need? This was bundled with a case, bar oil, fuel mix and a hat, all for a price I thought was great for just the saw alone. I feel like it was a great deal for just what I needed and nothing more...
