Answer:
ECHO Shred N’ Vac units are designed primarily to vacuum leaves. The units are not intended to vacuum items such as pinecones, acorns, etc. ECHO recommends first operating the unit as a blower to blow the leaves away from the items that are not intended to be vacuumed into the unit.

Difference between the ES-250 and ES-255

I want to get a good gas blower and vac. Particularly interested in a good vac that mulches well. I am narrowing my search to the Echo units. I am having trouble seeing the $129 difference between the 250 and the 255. Is there something that significantly effects the performance? The specs seem very close. As I mentioned, I am particularly interested in the vac/mulch capability.
Thanks!

I am in the process of trying to put together an easy and convenient way of leaf mulching/collection, but cannot find a complete system with my preference(s). I also want to use a gas powered blower/vacuum so that I can move freely around my yards without being tethered to an electrical outlet
My questions is; Will this blower/vacuum work with the Worx Leaf Pro Universal Leaf Collection System?

Answer:
I have one as well - and have two houses where one is oak leaves and the other is pine needles. It works great for leaves & items, but i have not had the same luck with pine needles. I wanted to use it to pick and shred them to make it easier to clean up.... it can do it - but have to unclog them a lot. It will work, but not as efficiently as with leaves and twigs.

This didn't answer my question about pine needles. I have 5 large pine trees along my property line. Will this do a decent job blowing the needles into a pile? Also will it vacuum and shred them?

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 59 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product The blower feature works as stated and will blow debris away with ease. The weight of the unit is not a problem, even for a scrawny, 61 year old. As for the shredding attachment, the steel blade makes excellent size mulch out of leaves that can be re-cycled for later use in your flower beds. The suction feeding the shredder will pull chrome off a trailer hitch so pay attention when operating. As with any new power garden tool, it takes a little time to get used to the capabilities; once mastered, one will become a true yard ranger. Quality of the product will likely outlive me. Highly recommend. April 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Performs as expected I've struggled for years to find a blower/vac that was easy to assemble, stay assembled (i.e. parts coming unconnected...especially when using the vac), easy to start and operate. I bought this model primarily for the vac capabilities and it has met my expectations. Of course the shredding could be more effective but for the most part I'm happy with how it performs when clearing leaves and loose debris from my yard, flower beds, driveway, etc. I've yet to use in the fall/early spring when leaves are wet but expect that it should perform as planned. I recommend this product. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product The product preformed as advertized. There was a small problem that was resolved quickly by Home Depot August 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worth it!!! I have had a few of the less expensive products both gas and electric. Never too happy with them. Went with the more expensive but highly rated ECHO and what a difference. Picks up Bamboo leaves and basically all debris in the back yard that can come up with a vacuum. Haven't used it as a blower yet. Easy start, comfortable to hold and saves me hours of raking and sweeping. Had it for a few months now and haven't any issues. June 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Echo Gas Blower Vacuum Echo makes a great product . Wish it was 280 MPH more POWER !!! May 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by no better than the ES-250 we have two ES-250 blowers at work. they work great. the impeller is a combo of mostly plastic with a small metal center blade to shred twigs and such. Sometimes it clogs because debris isn't chopped up well enough. I saw this blower and read somewhere on a review that it had an all metal impeller. I thought it was well worth the $30-$40 extra dollars. upon receipt I immediately looked at the impeller. it was exactly the same as the ES-250. I don't see how the higher price is justified. do a comparison on the website and you will see they are almost identical. February 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product! This Echo 255 gas blower/vac is a solid investment for home owners. The vacume/shred feature works great. Even wet leaves are picked up and shred with ease. The one thing that originally concerned me was the lock feature of the tubes, but no worries, it works well and is easy to figure out. My last Echo shred/vac (210series) is almost 20 years old and still works well, but now I have two units. One dedicated to blowing and one for shredding. My only concern is it is a little heavy for prolonged use, but I can easily overlook that issue as it is a solid performer. December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by works great Both the blower and vacuum worked great out of the box. the split end on the blower really pushed the pine needles that littered our driveway. January 19, 2016
