The echo shred n vac provides good vacuum for small to medium sized yards. The main problem is the bag attachment. It's supposed to slide over the main extension outlet pipe. The bag has Velcro bands for
Closing in around the lock collar however I had to secure it with duck tape. After shaking the bag of its contents the duct tape would loosen and bag easily comes off. Had to return the product for this reason.
It would be beneficial if there was a switch for blowing leafs and then switch to vacuuming the leafs. If you have more than an acre of yard it is best to get a DR vacuum container coupled to your lawn deck mulching mower.

This is an EXCELLENT machine that can handle any job it is needed for. We bought it specifically for the metal shredder (almost every other brand is PLASTIC) and it far outperformed anything we thought. We mulched 6 of our 30 gallon trash bags of leaves in less than 5 minutes per bag. Our original vac/shredder model by TORO is plastic and the shredder has so many dings from twigs that it takes hours to properly shred. Also, the large suction tube is awesome. Our old model I had to keep unclogging the tube as it would pack up. The TORO brand will probably last just as a blower for my kids to help out.

I have a 2 acre homestead planted with lots of trees. Two years ago, several of my established water oaks were infested with girdlers. These beetles lay their eggs in leave stems then girdle the stems. The stems fall onto the ground; the eggs ultimately develop into girdling beetles and infect other trees. There is no chemical which will kill these beetles. One can only pick up the fallen leaves and stems to interrupt the girdlers' life cycle and discard them to minimize future infestations. The Echo gas powered blower/vacuum gives me the tool to quickly vacuum and discard the infected stems. The Echo has plenty of power as a vacuum & blower. When not using the Echo as a vac, I use it as a blower to clean my garage.I had an electric plug in power/vac prior to the purchase of my Echo but was it proved too inefficient and cumbersome for the size of my property.

Very powerful compared to other hand blowers. A bit on the heavy side after about 30 minutes. Startup is great. It's kinda loud for the neighbors but not a problem for me. The vacuum part is a bonus since we have hedges now, you can suck the trimmings up in the bed without having to blow them out later.

Vacuum is a great performer and I believe the 12:1 ratio. Metal impeller chops like a champ. Blower is great for residential use and easy to handle. (Note this is not a backpack blower, so please don't believe this is going to work like the professional or push units). Works great on walkways, driveways and with dry leaves on the grass.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by HappyHomeowner13 Review on Echo ES-255 Shred-N-Vac
Read all of the reviews on this product, as well as comparable Husqvarna and Stihl models in similar price range ($300). After reading those other brands, most of the negative reviews pointed towards faulty fuel lines, and constant jamming/blockages in the vacuum assembly, and then the problem of clearing the jam.
Several negative reviews on this product pointed to difficulty in installing/removing the tubes, having to use screwdriver/key/tool, etc, and the locking mechanism being difficult to operate. After looking at the directions, and 30 seconds of common sense, and throwing a stubby flathead screwdriver in my pocket, problem was solved. Yes, you need something to depress the additional latch/lock mechanism before you can turn the locking collar/ring, but it literally takes 5 seconds and is not at all difficult to push.
As for swapping the tubes, same story. Very easy to swap in/out from blower to vacuum operation.
I got this delivered from HDP in about 3 days, well ahead of their expected delivery, so I was very pleased that I did not choose pick up at store. I had it out of the box and set up and running in less than 5 minutes, and most of that was checking on what fuel/oil ratio I needed. Very common sense setup. Very easy to pull-start after priming cold, and even easier when warm. Although I recommend you follow the directions, and start it on the ground, makes life easier.
I cleared about a 1/2 acre lot in about 2 hours (took me some time getting used to a blower) and put all the leaves into 2 big piles. Only place I had issues was alongside the back wall of the house, and under the raised deck, I ended up sending leaves flying, so user error =) Little to no vibration in my hands, and the unit is surprisingly light for the power. Work gloves cut down on the vibration even more. The throttle lock setup is an amazing feature many other models I researched did NOT contain, this kept me from needed to continually squeeze the throttle trigger, saving my hands.
The next challenge, converting to vacuum and cleaning up the mess. I had read all of the reviews about not plowing down into the leaf piles, going slow, making sure the bag didn't get full, watching for sticks, etc. But, me being me, figured I was darn sure going to put this thing through it's paces since I just shelled out close to $350 for it.
I started out slow, and gradually moved in deeper to see what I could get away with, I didn't avoid ANY of the sticks, including some quite large ones (1/2 inch + sizes), and even one of those plastic plant markers that tells you what they are/how to grow/etc. And, I'm sure there were a few small pebbles I heard go up the chute too LOL. This thing chewed it all up and spit it up, fast, TOO FAST. The bag is WAY TOO SMALL, but then again, for every unit I reviewed, the bag is about the same size. I had to empty it (next con/drawback/negative) every 2-3 minutes of use. I was able to get 3-4 bags of mulched leaves to each recycle bag, well compacted. Entire yard completed, not a single hiccup, or clog, even got all of the leaves out in the street since I was feeling good about it. Very pleased with it's performance. And these are a mixture of leaves from 3 trees, ranging from medium to large, and dry to wet. Didn't matter, handled them all.
Bag design on this thing needs some rework. The way the zipper stops just short of clearing the back corner makes it very difficult to empty. Had the designer just carried the zipper around the back another 6-8 inches, you'd be able to open the end of the bag completely, and not get any hang-up with the leaves when emptying it out.
Also, bag quality is very poor in my opinion. With the amount of times you need to empty it, the bag needs to be of a stronger material. I already have a tear starting in the corner where the neck of the bag connects to the output tube of the vacuum, just below the Velcro. Not sure if this is from the constant on/off, or the pressure of the air/leaves flowing through, or what. I plan on contacting the manufacturer and telling them I want a replacement bag. Less than 6 hours and it's already coming apart is not acceptable for this cost.
What I just did was purchase the Worx LeafPro universal attachment, comes with an 8-16ft flexible hose, and attaches to a 32-55gal barrel. This should resolve the above issue, but then I'll still need to transfer from barrel to bag, but should be less back and forth. Echo makes a version of this, but their reviews weren't that good. If they revamp it, maybe they should offer it as an add-on package at a discounted price.
Overall, I'm very pleased with my first outing with this unit, and plan to use it again in 2 weeks. I figure I have 90 days on it, so I plan to give it a good workout, and if it doesn't hold up, it's going back, but I don't think it will be needed, and I don't see any other unit out there that will do any better.

For 5 years I have had the smaller Echo Blower/Vac and it has been very reliable and worked well. This unit has much more vacuum power and is just as light and easy to use.

This Blower/Vac has been very useful around the house with leaves and yard work. My only problem I ran it to was vac/shredding English Ivy. The ivy just got wound up inside but I believe this would happen with almost any vac/shredder
