I have owned this now for a few years and it gets used once a week year around. I don't have to much bad to say about it. It still starts as it did when it was new and it runs along time on 1 tank of fuel. The only things I have replaced has been the spark plug and the air filter. It is loud but so are all gas trimmers. I would buy another one if this ever quits but I would get the straight shaft one next time.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by rpward51 Good Machine, replace the head
I bought this trimmer about 2-1/2 years ago. It was lightly used up until yesterday. More about that later.
During my first or second use I figured out that the Echo head had to go. I replaced it with a Rino Tuff head which has easily changed plastic blades. Buy and install the Rino Tuff head, buy a replacement pack of blades, and the Echo GT225 becomes a light weight work horse of a trimmer.
Keep in mind that I add Stabil to all my gasoline jerry cans. My GT225 starts on the first couple of pulls every time as long as long I don't have a stupid attack and forget to press the prime plunger, 3 or 4 plunges for a stone cold machine, 1 good plunge for a warm one.
This spring thru my own abject laziness I let our back yard go way, way too long until it was about a foot tall. That was grossly overgrown for my Honda mower so I basically mowed the entire back yard with the Echo. I ran it full bore thru 3 tanks of gas and it never missed I beat.
I am very happy with this little unit, would buy it again, and recommend it.
I would've given it 5 stars if it came with a blade style head.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JGinKC Buy this Head and Its great.
There's a lot of reviews regarding the head that comes with the unit. I was one of the guys who bought in the store and discovered this poor design once I got home and fired it up. The product designer clearly does not trim his/her yard. The installed head was running out of trimmer for me every 20 ft going against a fence like a lot of reviews here. Once it runs down to very short lines you have to shut off the unit, pull out the short stubs and manually insert new ones. I have a 1/2 acre yard and I ran out of the 16 lines that accompanies the unit. I wish I had read beyond the 4 stars and read a few reviews to find the comments about the head. Fortunately, I caught another guy in the store the other day that had one of these in his hand approaching the checkout. He went back and picked out a different one.
That said I was happy to find the "Speed-Feed 400 Curved Shaft Trimmer Head" on line at Homedepot.com that easily replaces the head on this unit. It appears to only be on-line...so beware if you're reading this and think you'll run to the store and solve your problem. Had I read all these I would likely have bought a different trimmer myself as the replacement head and the trimmer begins to get a bit expensive compared to other similar brands.
Once assembled it's great. Someone at Echo needs to rethink their decision. Unless the folks at Home Depot made them do it to be different than other retail outlets.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by FireMedic652 Excellent little ECHO
This is a great little trimmer. The quick change head is great, I read many reviews complaining of this however I find it great, If you use the trimmer properly you will not have any problems with it, I use .095 line in mine due to the heavy grass I cut and I have no complaints. If you follow the initial start up instructions the trimmer starts on third pull right out of the store and 1st pull all other times. I bought this after researching many machines and this was the best value for the price. I use twice a week for the past year and I love this trimmer. My father has had his ECHO for 15 yrs with no problems with his machine. Don't hesitate if you are considering this little gem.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by VicP Easy start, but don't count on warranty
Purchased this two years ago. It's easy to use, light weight and starts very easily every time. However last week I noticed some gas leaking. Found that the fuel line to the PCV valve was splitting. The user manual indicates that warranty is for five years including the fuel lines. The manual also indicates that fuel with 10% ethanol is fine. Took it to an authorized service center and they claimed that fuel system not covered by warranty because use with ethanol fuel. My choice was to argue about it or buy the part myself and install. Service center also said 3 week wait for service. Clearly they did not want to handle this, and I couldn't wait 3-weeks, so I bought the 3-hose fuel line assembly for $18 and installed it myself in 10 minutes. This is a great trimmer but you can't depend on the quality or warranty.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Spidy4president Great trimmer for the price
This Echo trimmer is a 2 cycle trimmer which requires a gas and oil mixture. The trimmer came secured in an Echo box and is easily removed. The trimmer appears to be of solid and quality construction. The trimmer takes a little work to first get it started, but the directions are clear and once it's started, starting again from a stop is easy. The trimmer cuts as expected and the line is easily changed. The trimmer comes with enough oil to mix with 1 gallon of gas and plenty of line to trim a decent sized yard.
