Rated 4 out of 5 by Good Machine, replace the head I bought this trimmer about 2-1/2 years ago. It was lightly used up until yesterday. More about that later. During my first or second use I figured out that the Echo head had to go. I replaced it with a Rino Tuff head which has easily changed plastic blades. Buy and install the Rino Tuff head, buy a replacement pack of blades, and the Echo GT225 becomes a light weight work horse of a trimmer. Keep in mind that I add Stabil to all my gasoline jerry cans. My GT225 starts on the first couple of pulls every time as long as long I don't have a stupid attack and forget to press the prime plunger, 3 or 4 plunges for a stone cold machine, 1 good plunge for a warm one. This spring thru my own abject laziness I let our back yard go way, way too long until it was about a foot tall. That was grossly overgrown for my Honda mower so I basically mowed the entire back yard with the Echo. I ran it full bore thru 3 tanks of gas and it never missed I beat. I am very happy with this little unit, would buy it again, and recommend it. I would've given it 5 stars if it came with a blade style head. May 4, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent little ECHO This is a great little trimmer. The quick change head is great, I read many reviews complaining of this however I find it great, If you use the trimmer properly you will not have any problems with it, I use .095 line in mine due to the heavy grass I cut and I have no complaints. If you follow the initial start up instructions the trimmer starts on third pull right out of the store and 1st pull all other times. I bought this after researching many machines and this was the best value for the price. I use twice a week for the past year and I love this trimmer. My father has had his ECHO for 15 yrs with no problems with his machine. Don't hesitate if you are considering this little gem. June 2, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by ECHO has terrible customer service Support from ECHO customer service is ridicously poor they will not give you any information that is useful to repiar the unit if there is any type of failure. They make service literature totally unavailable to the consumer. December 9, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Used Once & Returned It Mechanically, this is a great product. I took it home and it fired up immediately. It was much quieter than my old trimmer and appeared to have a lot more power. HOWEVER, I used it for about 10 minutes and had to stop and replace the line 5 times. As often as you would "tap" the head to advance the line, is how often you need to stop and replace the line. Although replacing the line is a very simple step, I certainly don't want to change it every 30-45 seconds. Come on, ECHO!!! CHANGE the head!!! July 8, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great but... The GT-225 is a great trimmer, but, as others have complained, the original, non-feeding head with two short strings is inadequate for heavy trimming. I had to stop and replace the strings every few minutes --even 0.105" strings. The fix is the Echomatic Trimmer Head, Echo Part No. 215-60040, which fits the GT-225 (and most other GTs). The reason for only three stars is that Echo doesn't advertize this fix, and it's difficult to find the head, even on the Internet. With the Echomatic head installed, the dry weight is a half pound less, so I've adjusted the balance. April 4, 2011
