What is the knob on the side for?

There is a picture of what I call a throttle plate and it shows it partly open and I see an arrow but I don't know what the knob does and what position it should be in. I bought my Echo used/reconditioned without the owners manual.
Asked by: vablak
What you are describing sounds like the choke lever. Full up for cold starting; after starting and running evenly move to the full down position (open). Leave in this position while in use. Works for me.

Can you put a metal blade on this weed eater?(for woodier brush) or is it only for grass cutting?

Asked by: Hunterofwashington
Not advised. With the smaller motor, and the curved shaft, it is harder to drive the weight of the metal blade. I've not read the warranty papers closely, but I would generally assume using a metal blade would void the warranty.

What are pros and cons of staight versus curved shaft on weedeater?

Asked by: Anonymous
Its all preference in terms of what you find more confortable. In the echo line, the curved vs straight have the exact same engine. The curved were designed to be more comfortable but some find them the opposite. I can confirm the curved shaft model comes with a rapid load head, whereas the straight shaft model comes with a spool (tap) head. Often straight shaft has the advantage of reaching farther. There was a time where straights were more durable and targeted more for commercial use, but not so much anymore.

2 Cycle 21.2cc Curved Shaft Gas Trimmer is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 924.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny Bought this over the weekend after doing some research, wow what a great product, set up is easy and your'e up n running in minutes. Was skeptical atter purchase as I walked out of the store a man was returning the exact same model. It went thru thick weeds with no problems, as many have stated the rapid reloader is a pain, yet I had no problems, stopping to reload lets you crack open a cold one after sweating your bag off. If you'e on the fence about buying this bad boy, just do it!! You wont be disapointed!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OK, but have a pocket full of strig pre cut. I like using the precut string, but they break so quickly that you are constantly going to your pocket for new ones. I use .95 string and it does way better than .80. Starts easy, and has plenty of power for up to almost 1/2 thick weeds if you work at them. This one was a big step down for me in motor size, the curved shaft, and giving up string feed (but that is another nightmare). We have an acre and I grow grass on about 1/3rd, the back 2/3's needs a lot of attention, and I'm hoping this unit is up to the task from a longevity position.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Replace 2-line Rapid Loader trimmer head with Speed-Feed Universal 400 trimmer head My wife and I chose this because it is lightweight and has a curved shaft that provides for a nice, ergonomic fit. I am 5'5" and she is 5'4" and the curved shaft seems to fit shorter folks better. The trimmer handles well and is very powerful. The only complaint I have is the 2-line Rapid Loader trimmer head. I had to replace the trimmer line three times to mow my lawn. This trimmer head is a terrible invention. But rather than return it, I decided to try replacing the trimmer head with the Speed-Feed Universal 400 trimmer head (P/N 99944200907). It cost $30 at Home Depot and uses a thicker trimmer line than what the GT-225 comes with. It works fine and my only complaint about that is that the instructions are not very clear. Had the Speed-Feed Universal 400 trimmer head been standard, I would have given this product five stars.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This thing is garbage I purchased one to do some simple cleanup around my backyard and this product was a COMPLETE disappointment. Seems like the engine has too much torque to keep the line blades on the trimmer. I found myself constantly having to Put the pre cut sections of line back in the head. This thing is a total waste of money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rapid-Loader™ I love my Echo product as I have in the past, that I bought a newer one. I thought I did the right thing by buying this new easy quick string loader, the rapid-loader. Come to find out there is a lot of waste of the nylon cord and time to reload. I find it to be very wasteful and time consuming! if you add the little pieces that are left on the head, you would find that it is not cost effective, not to mention the time to stop, pull out the ends and discard, then refit the new pieces. I rather have the spool, fill it and forget it about it! this head should't have even been made, not environment friendly, and costly to the consumer

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolute satisfaction!! I am 80 years old and still take care of my 10 acres. This is the FIRST weed-eater I have ever had that was easy to start, easy to reload string and light enough to weed-eat around all of my Crepe Myrtles. I have about 100 . Love the weedeater.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far, so good I have a few ECHO products that I am very happy with. I own a mid-sized chainsaw that gets much abuse and it hangs right in there. I also have a small backpack blower that is probably my most reliable piece of yard equipment. So when it came time to replace an old weed trimmer, I chose the ECHO 225. I've only had it for about a week but so far it meets my expectations. The first thing that I did notice is that the line is thin and week. If you do any strenuous trimming at all, the line is pretty useless. I did discover however that this head will take a heavier line. That seems to have solved this problem for me. It starts very easily and runs well. I am pleased with it so far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from WORST STRING HEAD EVER I love the trimmer except for the piece of junk string head that came with it. Doing very basic trimming on my front lawn, I had to shut it down about every 90 seconds to replace the broken strings. I purchased the speed feed bump head to replace the original. Knowing how bad the original head was , I would have purchased a different model with the speed feed head. I sort of feel ripped off, having to replace a part on a new trimmer. The 2 cycle engine starts easy and runs well and the machine feels well balanced. I recommend buy Echo but not with not with the rapid loader head.
