Customer Questions & Answers

Is the guard large enough on this trimmer? It seems kind of skimpy in comparison.

Asked by: TMan
I have an older model SRM-225 that has the same guard (after 8 years of residential use I'm about to purchase another one if I can't get the one I have operational w/ the parts I've ordered). I can attest from numerous encounters w/ debris hurled up at terrific velocity that it is essential to wear eye protection (3M wrap around) & in my case, a bandanna wrapped around my face & nose (like I'm robbing a bank). Been hit, nicked & cut too many times. I even walk where I'll be edging to pick up loose rock/pebbles & still that string will find a projectile that seems to invariably make its way to my face/eyes. Also, another inherent problem is the line "melting" together in the head so it won't feed out. I researched this I found the line drys out over time. It can be easily resolved by soaking in water for a day, which restores at least some of of its elasticity.

weed wacker will not release string when Bumped in other words bump does not work

I have taken machine to a professional garden shop repair place because wind in string did not work that was solved now at home will not bump out feed line to work Shop repair place has been in business for over 20 years he did not run machine and test bump out on string. acts like locked up ? what could be the cause of this can any one reply? If you are using a "twisted" line or one that has multiple "edges", it will frequently bind to itself resulting in not being able to feed out properly. Use only round line for smooth feeding results. The other line I mention may, however cut smoother, but you be the judge. Have a nice day. Carl S.

Can this SRM225 be turned on it's side for edging without harming the unit?

Asked by: Anonymous
I have not had a chance to use the SRM-225 yet. But I need it to do trimming and edging. See the Safety Manual, page 30, that came with the SRM-225. Under Operation/Applications, it states "Nylon line heads may be used for trimming, scything, edging, and scalping of grass and light weeds." And it list the SRM plus other models. It states how to hold the SRM while edging and shows a picture of it. Model SRM/PAS/SB (Straight shaft, counter-clockwise line head rotation) - Tilt the cutting head down on the right side (muffler side) while cutting to direct cutting debris away from operator. Feed the line gradually into the material you wish to cut, avoiding contact with fences or other barriers.

Is the handle adjustable? Can a woman use it???

Asked by: Anonymous
There is one thing nobody seemed to mention, If you have SMALL HANDS you will not be able to use the quick feed head. I have this problem. If I want to add new line to the trimmer head I have to take it apart because my hand is too small to apply pressure to both sides of the head at the same time to be able to load the new trimmer line.

After using this yesterday... I must say that it is by far, the best weed eater I have ever owned. I've always bought the cheapest I could find and then trashed it when it broke. This time I decided to get a decent machine in hopes that it would help this old man get the work done. Man! This thing is a "BEAST"! It was ready to "rock and roll"! I cleaned up a 200 ft. long creek bed behind our house in 1 hour and 15 minutes. It usually took me about 3 hours before! I only had to bump the line feeder twice and had 1/3 of a tank of gas left. Amazing! The I did the rest of the weed eating in record time as well. If you need a weed eater... this is the ticket! It's also very light and well balanced. Quieter than most too. ECHO model SRM-225, $199.00 at Home Depot. 3,104 reviews with 2,459 being 5 stars! And, I'm about to add another one! I can't believe I'm saying this... but, I actually enjoyed weed eating yesterday, for the first time in my 63 years!!!

This thing is great cut through 2' tall grass with only a couple of passes without binding up, I love the overall length makes it so much easier on my back, if you are a tall person you will certainly appreciate it, the EZ line reload is also great saves time, this beats my old worn out weedeater trimmer hands down, I only wished instead of spending money on parts for my old one I would have gone ahead a bought this one. ***Note-I have found out the hard way {by having several 2 cycle tools present & past} that spending a little more money on the Pre mixed canned fuel can save yourself a lot of headaches***

I went down to home depot and was pretty set on buying a corded electric or cordless because I wanted to avoid gas, mixing oil, noise, pollution, etc. I purchased a cordless model from another vendor, but I was very disappointed with the run time. It was under 20 minutes. After fooling around with it for a couple hours, I returned it and bought an ECHO 225. I initially didn't want gas, but this thing works so well, I threw my initial requirements out the window. It runs for about an hour at full speed whacking through weeds on a tank of gas. After two solid hours of weed whacking, I was tired but amazed at the area I covered with it. So much more powerful than any corded or cordless weed whacker. It spins counterclockwise, so in terms of throwing debris against your legs, it seems better cutting from left to right. When cutting in that motion, the stuff is throw away from you. But frankly my weeds are so tall, weeds were flying every which way. I would not hesitate to buy this product. If you have a large yard like me (2/3 acre), you'll need something serious like this.

I got this today by ordering it online picking it up at the HD. It works great. However, I'd save yourself an hour on how to load the trimming line by watching this video first: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqO3kKZttWc Next, instead of mixing oil and gas I'd recommend using Trufuel. It's a bit expensive, but it's worth it IMO. Home Depot is the cheapest place I've found to buy it. I use the 50:1 mix and a case (6 cans) is $34.99. Lastly, invest in some serious googles—not safety glasses—so debris can't bounce up and get you in the eye. I used the glasses that came with the trimmer and they're not great (although they're better than nothing). The problem is this trimmer throws up a lot of pebbles and dirt when in use. So after a few close calls today I'm buying a pair of Deawalt Safety Google (Model # DPG82-11C Internet #202220499).

After much research online i decided on this unit from Home Depot and will say this is by FAR the best trimmer I have purchased in 35+ years. After trimming approx 1160 Feet x 1 ft wide (paced it off) and 120 ft of 8ft wide ditch I used a little more than half its fuel and bumped the line less than 10 times, plenty of line left. It is very well balanced and does not vibrate your hands off. The trimmer has plenty of power, in my opinion, and is a little quieter than most trimmers. 2 cold starts were used, no problems. Starts very easily when warm. It is not supplied with a strap and the trigger is a little awkward for me. I have only used this trimmer 1 time and sure hope it lasts as long as everyone says it will. I did get the 2 year warranty extension for $25 as I have a terrible track record with trimmers. I average 1 every 2 to 3 years or so. For $224 plus tax I am very happy about this purchase. Hope I'm saying the same thing this time next year. I have not tried restringing it yet.

No problems with it and haven't changed or replaced a thing. I use this thing weekly as well and does incredible job. If you're looking for a weed eater, go to homedepot quick!! Just make sure you mix your gas right and you'll be okay.

I always had a problem starting a gas trimmer, a battery operated one didn't have enough power and the electric ones were just a pain to pull the cord around the yard/fence area. Finally I got a gas trimmer I can start and after going back to Home Depot and asking an associate about the cord threading I am very pleased. I don't have to put off trimming. The trick to threading the cord is to put the cord ends into the holes, close the cord holder then hold the bottom of the cord holder area and turn the top to wind the cord into the holder. So easy!
