Start up is hard. Even going through the steps several times, tool takes a while to cold start. If you've ever had to trim with scissors, then you will know that anytime something with power is used, it's faster. If you've ever had to pull weeds out down to the last bit of root, you will like just cutting the top off with this power tool. It's better to just dig the whole weed out if you have the extra time. So buy a shovel too, even if you don't want to. If you ever have had to mow grass, you will like to use this, to trim the edges for a professional look. You're on your way to becoming better than average

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JAsaro This tool is awesome for big yards.
I love Echo products. This one is just as good as the other. I'm not pleased about being forced into a California compliant model, but ok. The unit starts right up and has the power to get through the ground cover I have here. In addition the bump line feed works great and the balance of the unit prevents fatigue. It is a great tool.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by John This is 1 awesome trimmer!!!
Like the title says, I purchased this trimmer online and had it shipped to the store. My wife picked it up and got it home. I also had her pick up some Echo power blend fuel as well. Filled it up, primered it 7X , flipped the choke pulled it twice and it wwanted to fire. Flipped choke to run and on 1st pull she fired up and idled like a dream! This is what you need to do for 1st start up. I went and did some light trimming just to break it in nicely. Now I only primer it 3X for cold start and no issues. Now on to why I purchased this model. My old unit T.B. stopped running, I tried to fix but to no avail. So being I have a Echo blower that has been absolutely fantastic, I decided to get a Echo trimmer. I went on Echos website and watched the videos. I decided that the SRM-266S was for me. The larger 25.4cc engine and shaft drive will perform smooth with perfection, in which it does. For residential homeowner use it may be slight overkill, but I know I'll never have any shortage of power. If your not sure if the SRM-230 is enough power, for about $50 more get this or the SRM-266T and you'll be glad you did. My only gripe is the sliding on /off button. Wish it had a momentary switch, but I'm splitting hairs here. Love the machine! Don't over think it, spend little more and get one you'll be pleased.

My 20 year old Echo finally died. This high-torque model is heavier, But I sometimes have to deal with overgrown areas. The 266T is well built and starts easily. It runs smoothly and because of it's higher torque, it doesn't need to run at high rpm in order to keep from bogging down. I'm very pleased with this workhorse and hope it will also give me years of service.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by jrc8000 A great string trimmer
The motor purred like a kitten...very smooth, powerful, idled well, never died, and easy to start. It cut through high, tough weeds and grass nicely. Seems like a very high quality machine. A little less costly than the Stil product, but still a little costly...you probably get what you pay for, however. It would be nice, if a shoulder strap was included for long cut jobs.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Victor Easy to start if you know how
I have the 280T model and it absolutely rips, instant torque. Mine always starts on the third pull even when not used for 6 months. Here is how: unscrew the gas cap a bit to release any vacuum; prime well; choke ON; toggle trottle1-2; Crank 1-3, not more than 3x. You should hear an engine cough at this point. Choke OFF, primer, screw gas cap tight. Put pinky on trottle and toggle as you crank 1-2 times. Should start easy. Overall I only crank 3-4 times for an easy start every time. The trick seems to be to release the gas tank vacuum, and to not overcrank with choke on, then toggle trottle as you crank.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by cornellcellist Wanted an Echo quality product..... and got it!
I wanted a quality line trimmer to replace a Ryobi model that wasn't running reliably. With doing research didn't like that many trimmers use a cable linkage between the engine and the head - the cables require maintenance. Have had good experiences with Echo and tend to spend a bit more to get a higher model as it pays in the end. Liked this model due to the solid shaft instead of a cable drive. Used it for a few weeks and starts very well, looks well designed, line trimmer head design is interesting and is easy to reload with line. Only small criticism is the weight of the unit but it seems proportional to the extra power this unit has. Would buy again and would recommend to others.
