Customer Questions & Answers

Can this model be used as an edger for flower beds, etc...? Can the head be rotated to turn into an edger?

Asked by: PrincessKate
Yes, this model does cut an edge pretty well. The trimmer can be rotated in order to cut a horizonal edge along walks or flower beds.

difference between Echo 266 / 266S and 266T String trimmers

Every craftsman, and Homelite gardening tool I have is gradually getting replaced by ECHO! My string trimmer, Homelite ST175 just died, and I'm looking at Echo for a replacement. Can someone please detail the difference between Echo 266, Echo 266S, and Echo 266T?
Asked by: john
The 266 has a cable drive. The 266S is the same but use a shaft drive. The 266T is a cable drive but has more torque than the 266 and 266s.

echo srm 266t

does this trimmer come with the high capacity speed feed head. echos website says that is standard on this model but in the description it just says bump and feed head.
Asked by: Anonymous
I don't know if it's considered high capacity, but the string lasts a very long time without advancing or adding new line. The bump feed seems to work well, but one time it did get stuck, and I had to drop the spool down to free the line where it would bump feed again.

Customer Reviews

2 Cycle 25.4 cc Straight Shaft Gas Trimmer is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a beast!! Everything you expect from Echo. I bought this trimmer about 8 months ago and I couldn't be happier with it. I've been dealing with this particular lawnmower shop for years and this unit came highly recommended. You won't find this one in Home Depot. What makes this model different is that it uses the gearing from a stick edger and it uses a large diameter speed feed head. You don't have to run this thing anywhere near wide open to get the head spinning fast enough to handle most commercial tasks. I once had a yard that had been neglected. It was 5 feet of growth. I used my Echo to cut this lawn down low enough to finis it off with a 21" walk behind. This unit replaces an Echo SRM-2400 that I bought in 1999 and have used to cut 20 yards a week. It still runs great, just getting a little hard to start after getting hot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great quality trimmer I am very pleased with the Echo SRM-266T. I almost didn't go with Echo, I just didn't think it had the quality of my former commercial trimmer (different brand). I didn't have any reason to judge against it - mostly because I didn't have any place I could find that I could put my hands on one. I'm glad I went with the Echo. It starts easy, most of the time without the choke which is rare with any 2-stroke motor. I really like the string head design - so simple to use and re-fill. The trimmer is powerful, handing thick tall grass without a fight. It is a very sooth running trimmer and comfortable to handle for me at 6' tall. One last plus on this Echo is that it uses a lot less fuel than my previous trimmer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it. I still have my original SRM-230 but this is like icing, more powerful, slightly heavier by a pound but now I'm up with the commercial landscapers. I have 5 acres and it works it's tail off. The SRM-230 is all I could afford at time but ECHO Weed Eaters Rocks. Love the new method to string, much better than the 230. It cuts the badest of the bad weeds no problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful tool for precise trimming This SRM-266T is the second one I have purchased. The first one I owned for a mowing business and I sold the trimmer as part of a package deal. I've been kicking myself ever since. So when I moved to an acreage and needed a trimmer I definitely bought one of these again. It starts very easily using the procedure in the manual. It has plenty of power and doesn't bog down when trimming. Other trimmers I've used would scalp because the trimmer would bog, slow down and let the line droop, but I've never had that problem with this Echo. It has a powerful engine and it has a larger gearbox at the trimmer head, allowing a higher torque gear ratio which keeps the line from slowing down even in thicker grass.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Starts well Only owned for a month or so but it starts well, idles good, is light and balanced well. Not too thrilled with the speed feed head since it is not perfectly round so when you are trimming between cobblestone pavers or around any rocks, it bounces off them and will soon wear. I also would have bought the PAS model if I knew about it before the purchase

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent trimmer Really a great trimmer. I could write a book about how happy I am with this thing. I was really scared to spend this kind of money since I don't have a lot, but was also sick of buying trimmers that are only sub-par. I have to say I'm not using this thing in light grass, I have really heavy weeds, ivy and cattails and all were easily trimmed. This thing cut my trimming work in half for several reasons, it's very comfortable to use so I don't have to take breaks and it has so much cutting power it takes less passes to get a clean cut. There is a slight learning curve to starting it if you're used to running one that has a spring loaded stop button but if you make sure it's in the on position two pulls and it's running like a champ. I love this trimmer wish I had bought one years ago.
