After shopping for trimmers, I decided to get an Echo based on there warranty and reputation. I went with the 280 for more power, and it is the same weight as the 266. The first time I used it, it was very hard to start. It costs more so I don't know why it does not have the i-30 starting system like the 266. Now that it is broke-in, it starts on the first or second pull. The line it comes with cuts great, and the 280 has plenty of power to get the job done. The main thing I don't like is the speed feed head. It is very fast and easy to load, if it does not malfunction. I had another brand trimmer I used for over 10 years and did not have any trouble with head. With the speed feed head several times I've had the line break off on one side. When this happens you have to take the head apart and you might be able to feed the line through, but I think it's best to just pull it all off and rewind it so it doesn't get tangled and happen again right away. The bottom of the head clips on. One time when the line ran out the bottom flew off and I had to find all the pieces in the yard. I think the clip on part is harder to take off when you want it off, but it can come off by it self when in use. A screw on bottom would be much better. For the price of these, Echo should at lest offer different / better head with the trimmer so you don't have to pay extra for one. I think I would recommend 266 that has the i-30 starter over the 280 that doesn't and costs more. I think the SRM-280 is a very good quality trimmer that comes with a lower quality trimmer head.

I bought this trimmer spring of 2014 , I have other echo products and hat no problem. I took,it back to the store they said it was something wrong with it .A few days later they call me back up and said they made some adjustment on it and said it was fix. It was not fix I took it back and they said this SRM 280 was very easy to flood . It takes 5 pr 6 pulls to crank . I will say once it cranks it works great.

I purchased this unit almost three months ago. It worked exdellent on the four occasions I used it. It was easy to handle and start up with little effort on the pull string. I would certainly recommend it to anyone. Being here in Belize, where could I get replacement parts for this unit in this country?

My Wife bought this for an early Fathers Day gift for me last month, and I've used it several times, and I find it works great. Does a good cleaning job and is easy to start every time. I like the extended length and the ease of moving it along. Great gift.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lewis A High Quality Product with Reliability
I purchased this product on 06/20/2012 after experiencing 15 years of frustration from using several other line trimmer products (all manufactured by another single brand manufacturer) that were frequently malfunctioning and subsequently unavailable for usage while spending time at the appropriate repair centers. I selected this product because of it’s’ 5 year warranty and engine power. My primary concerns and requirements in regards to this selection were reliability and availability. This product has proven to be very reliable during the two years of my ownership since I have experienced no mechanical problems with the product during this time period. The product starts up easily and it is user friendly in terms of adding new line. The maintenance becomes a little challenging during the first attempt since the provided documentation (i.e. the operator’s manual) does not specify the tools that should be used for performing maintenance. I was able to determine the appropriate tools but it took a significant amount of time in order to make this determination. I recommend that the documentation (especially for the cooling and exhaust system maintenance steps) be revised to include the required tools for performing maintenance. Maintenance was no problem during the second attempt since the required tools had already been established.
The long term storage procedure documentation for draining the fuel tank also proved to be a little shallow in terms of providing all of the relevant information for performing this procedure. I had to contact product support in order to obtain clarification in regards to certain steps of this procedure. The documentation needs to be revised in order to reflect that the engine can be in either a “cold” or “warm” state during the performance of this procedure (this is important since the choke has to be closed during a certain point in the procedure and the warm start procedure documentation within the same operator’s manual indicates that the choke should never be closed when the engine is warm) and that the primer bulb should not contain any visible fuel after the completion of this procedure. I had to perform this procedure a significant number of times in order to clear the primer bulb of visible fuel so I question whether or not this objective is reasonable.
Overall, I am very happy with this product and I noticed that this product has the same basic design philosophy as the Echo manufactured Shaft Hedge Clipper “SHC-225” and Power Blower “PB-255LN” products which I also own. It’s nice to see the same philosophy being incorporated across multiple products especially considering that this philosophy appears to reflect a high standard for quality of workmanship.
