does it have a saw blade

At one time I had a weed wacker (gas) with a saw blade that coould be attached for trimming branches and stalks. Does this product do that?
Asked by: Anonymous
It does not have it with it but you can get a brush cutter kit for it that will come with the blade strap and other hardware. I think the kit sells for around $50 to $75 if i remember correctly. Here is the part number for that kit 99944200418 from Echos web sight. Hope this helps

Yes! I believed I just answered this. See results to previous questions. It is only slightly complicated so be sure that you to to my previous answer to avoid getting frustrated when you buy the conversion kit!

What is the shaft size - interested in adding a Brush Blender attachment to it and it needs a 1 inch shaft
Asked by: Sharon
The SRM280T has an arbor size requirement of 20mm! A 25mm (1inch) arbor sized attachment will not work except on higher-end ECHO gas trimmer models!

With the higher torque how much less of a cutting speed will I get? How dirty if a cut will it make compared to a 21.1c

Asked by: Spenc
Higher torque translates into a more "powerful" cut. Even at a lower speed it will still "plow" through heavy material where lower torque/higher RPM models would be bogged down! The loss in speed means that when dealing with predominantly fine textured grasses will not get as "neat" of a cut. Although I find it totally satisfactory! Otherwise a higher torque slightly lower RPM cutting does a much better job in all other situations! If you are using a gas trimmer for your well-maintained lawn area the SRM280T may be over-kill! Go with a higher RPM model. Be cautious about lower end models by ECHO depending upon your needs. I had a not so good experience because I thought I was saving money while lowering my criteria for functionality!

The only reason why I bought this is because my dad needs a powerful grass trimmer for our garden. The problem isn't exactly the price, it's how much inconvenience it was for me. First, it's only available in the States, so I had to pick it up over the border. Second, since it's well over $200, I had to pay taxes at the border. Third, no matter how many times I rev up the engine, it won't start up even when I follow the instructions. I'm going to get this hunk of junk examined. Depending on what the people at Home Depot say, I'll have this refunded. It was not worth the stress.

I had purchased a cheaper ECHO straight shaft gas trimmer quite a few years ago. It was totally unsatisfactory for my needs. With that in mind I was anxious about getting this model SRM 280T but I felt that it was a need for more power as well as the capacity to take metal blades that would make it more functional. I live in a central location in San Diego with almost 1/4 acre. String trimming doesn't "cut" it! Due to a wet winter this year the weeds were shoulder high in some parts of my garden. I have given it a go using a 3-tooth blade which sliced (or I should say "smashed") through thick stemmed grasses and weeds that were already semi-woody! I have yet to try the 8" 8-tooth blade which I know I will need for woodier brush and grasses. The power developed by the SRM280T is more than adequate! Need to heed the requirement for a higher octane gasoline! Must be AT LEAST 89! I went for higher. I also had a concern about the WEIGHT of the SRM280T and how it would affect my back (I am 65... not the "spring chicken" that I used to be!) Fortunately the conversion kit (see below) included a shoulder/waist harness (a heavy-duty harness is also available). When this harness is adjusted on the shaft so that the motor and the cutter end are counter-balanced then have a perfect center of gravity at my standing position. Also need to adjust the handle on the shaft for greater ease of movement. Only issue with the harness is to avoid the temptation to operate with one hand! I purchased the ECHO SRM Universal Blade Kit (99944200422) at the same time as my SRM280T trimmer purchase. This kit comes with a 8" 8 tooth blade. Some kits do not include a blade!!! Be sure to check this first! Also make sure you are getting one that fits a 20mm arbor! If using other models determine whether they have a 20mm or 25mm arbor!!! Converting my gas trimmer to handle metal blades would have been quite simple! 2 tools are not included in the conversion kit with absolutely no suggestions for substitutes! This was a major frustration for me. My otherwise 5 STAR RATING for my over-all experience has been reduced to a 3 STAR RATING because of this! For assembly requires an L-wrench, a T-wrench (not included) and a "locking tool" which can use L-wrench for this or a screw-driver with a long, narrow shaft. A substitute for not being able to find a T-wrench (unknown size!) is to go with a 17mm hex socket & ratchet wrench. THEY DON'T TELL YOU THIS! I contacted ECHO customer service and they were clueless about my problem! I had to go back to the store with the 10 mm locking nut in hand... employees could not help me either (including a supervisor)! The only way to tighten this nut is with a 17mm socket or the unknown T-wrench! You will not be able to use a box wrench or a crescent wrench without damaging the nut!!! Again they will not tell you any of this! I also purchased a 10" 3-tooth blade (for a 20mm arbor). This has worked well with THICK grasses and soft to semi-woody stemmed weeds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Machine! What a pleasant surprise to get to work and have the trimmer do all of the hard stuff. I was able to dig out old growth from around cemetery stones without hardly any effort from me. The power of this echo trimmer is outstanding. I am a big fan of Echo and am happy that Home Depot carries such a fine product. Almost perfect. The slight con is with the style of head. The string head is a little difficult to access and does not close completely without some strong force. I'll be reverting to an older style for familiarity and comfort.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good power, reliability Trimmer has tons of power and really does its job, cuts through just about anything with the trimmer line. The only beef I have with the trimmer is the loss of power when you place it vertical to edge along a lawn. It just doesn't seem designed to handle that position. Other than that it's great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best trimmer ever! Upgraded my SRM-225 because I own a small lawn service. Wow what a difference! Like all my other Echos it starts in no more than 3 pulls, has tons of power while being super efficient, and is so comfortable. I put on a high capacity speed feed head and just trimmed 3 foot tall grass with no bog down and I didn't even get dirty! Stick with the best, stick with Echo!
