Answer:
The gear reduction is the difference between engine speeds, and the attachment speeds. Gear reduction ratios are used when the high engine speeds need to be converted to lower speed torque. Torque referred to the twisting motion of the attachment which is used needed to drive the attachment under load.

Answer:
The SRM-280T and SRM-280 feature the same engine displacement and performance. The SRM-280T has a high torque gear case that will provide 50% more torque at the cutting head. The advantage to the 50% more torque is the engine will not be put under as heavy of a load in demanding applications. The SRM-280 does not have the extra torque, but it has a faster head speed. Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 52 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent trimmer! I have always used echo in the past when I had a mowing service and loved them . I recently started my lawn care business back up after being out of the business for a little over 10 years. I started out with other equipment and they work ok but not quite to the level I expect from my equipment so I ordered the srm 28 and could not be happier! The machine starts easy has more than enough power to do any task you might ask of it and it runs so smooth! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a trimmer May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by stop wasting time and buy NOW!!! This product is a beast I Have noticed as well thought it drinks a lot of gas I would say as as much as twice the 266 I have you can hear the power difference in the motor. You can fell the power in the trigger when cutting though weeds. You can easy cut thick weeds. If you have a lot of land to clear or do landscaping buy this its amazing. March 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing Machine! What a pleasant surprise to get to work and have the trimmer do all of the hard stuff. I was able to dig out old growth from around cemetery stones without hardly any effort from me. The power of this echo trimmer is outstanding. I am a big fan of Echo and am happy that Home Depot carries such a fine product. Almost perfect. The slight con is with the style of head. The string head is a little difficult to access and does not close completely without some strong force. I'll be reverting to an older style for familiarity and comfort. July 8, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by AVOID AVOID AVOID! This is literally the most expensive piece of garbage i have ever wasted my money on. Most of the time time its under repair, not functional. Has never once just started right up, there's always some little game you have to play with it, tilt it on its side to start it, the pull starter gets stuck, have to CONSTANTLY spray carb cleaner in it and baby the fuel system... Not to mention MOST of the original parts wear out WAY too fast for a $400 piece of equipment, i have already spent over $100 on replacement parts for this piece of junk in the two years ive owned it. Unacceptable if you ask me April 10, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk - Echo is no longer a quality brand. This is a huge waste of money! The machine has not run properly since it was purchased. To top it all off, the poorly trained staff at the Fleming Island store 6369 says over the phone that they will give me store credit to replace it and upon arrival, they refuse. They shouldn't promise something they won't commit to. This waste of $400 and the overall experience with Home Depot has surely made me a Lowes customer. June 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Top of the line! Runs like a dream! Great buy. Will never go with any other brand July 30, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far, so good. I've only used it a couple of times so far but it has performed well. It's fairly well balanced and has plenty of power. It also seems more fuel efficient than any trimmer I've used. If it lasts well and continues to perform as it does now, I'll be a happy customer. April 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Weed Eater The best weed eater I have ever used. Would highly recommend this product. May 4, 2016
