Check the manual first and always. The manual is an owners best friend. Usually most higher cc saws will except larger or smaller bars. Make sure you get bars and chains that are recommended by the manufacturer.

Answer:
I use Carlton chain, as good as Stihl OEM chain and a much cheaper price...A 20 inch bar usually takes a 27 drive link chain, which can be had for less than $20 by buying at least 5 at a time...So nice
to have extra chains that are sharp and ready to go in case we hit a nail or wire in a fence row.

Answer:
If you go to the Oregon site, they will give you the ones that fit this saw. If you want homeowner (safety) chain, choose "homeowner." For the 20 inch bar, I think it's 70 drive links. There are also pro chains that do not have the reduced kickback safety of the homeowner chain. I think the Oregon chain is D70, which is usually easy to find.

A couple of things to check, first make sure that you check the owners manual for chain gauges. Example: Echo CS600P is .50 gauge. That is the thickness of the guide groove in the bar. Second: an easy way is to count the links in your old chain. That will give you a good idea because most new chains give link counts right on the package. Most bars are also stamped and the first 2 numbers will be your Read More

Answer:
The CS-590 can take the larger bar and chain combinations but it is not offered that way as a standard configuration. Both the CS-600P and the CS-590 feature an aluminum crankcase. However, the CS-590 does not include a replaceable sprocket and is equipped with a plastic handle which justifies the difference in price between the two models.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 41 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works hard and starts easy Hope it holds up like the old ECHO saw I have had for 25 years' It sold me on ECHO April 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far - great saw Although I haven't used this saw enough to offer an educated review of its performance I am impressed with it's design and quality of materials. I have owned several Husky's and loved them. I am equally, if not more impressed with the Echo CS 600p. So far it cuts and runs very well. I do wish that the securing attachments for the gas and bar oil caps were a little longer. They do interfere somewhat with adding fuel and oil. I suspect they were designed short in order to minimize the likelihood of catching dirt and saw dust that would then be transferred to the fuel and oil tanks. January 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Saw I've been using Echo products for 18 years now so when it came time to replace my chainsaw the Echo was on top of the list. After comparing with Stihl it was kind of a no brainer. For over $100 less and a 5 year warranty. I got the CS-600P with a 20" bar. It is well balanced and has real good power and I expect it will be as durable as the other Echos I have owned! January 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simply amazing! I just can't say enough good things about this saw. It flat ROCKS! Echo has hit a home run here. Full of professional features, plenty of power, super fast in the cut, and very well made. You will not be disappointed in this saw. January 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The best built chainsaws today I have been the proud owner of an echo cs600p for over three years now. It is my main go to saw for firewood cutting and has never let me down. When I first bought the saw most of my friends and family could not understand why I would buy an echo chainsaw being fans of both Stihl and Husky. Now I have proven to them the ruggedness and performance of Echo chainsws many of them have realized that they were just buying a name instead of a quality built product and they were paying $200-$400 to do so. So if your considering saws in this class say a plastic constructed ms311 or an auto tune Husky that this is a rugged built metal frame saw that does not require an unreliable computer to run and will still hang well with the other two and keep going when they break down for a lot less purchase cost. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Couldn't be Happier Bought my 600p in 2013.with a few minor modifications it's a hoss.starts every single time.the key to no issues with any saw is good oil and non ethanol gas. All of my other similar sized saws.even the 70cc saws stay in the truck or garage anymore.i use my 600p for firewood, landscaping and in the off season logging. What would be really nice if echo would make a compareable model to the stihl and husqvarnas in 70cc.build them they will sell. April 26, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cut up 100' fallen red oak with 30" trunk no problem. Bought this saw to do the job that 46cc ryobi really struggled with. Echo Saw had plenty of power, nice torque with the bar sunk in all the in the trunk and never felt weak. Throttle is very linear with easy modulation. No issues with starting, three pulls on cold start and one on warm. Overall seems Good built quality too. The chain bar is solid steel which ensures no bending. Went through two chains to cut up the three. Substituted with Oregon chain. Only thing can think of is the saw sips good amount of gas. And although the weight of the saw is average in this class, wish it was bit lighter. Overall, very satisfied with the machine. December 4, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Echo gas chain saw, 59.8 cc My wife and I were tired of always having to either purchase a new chain saw or having to have it repaired because of poor quality parts. We decided to go to Home Depot and look at their chain saws, saw the new Echo chain saw, 20 in bar with an astounding 59.8cc engine. After getting the saw home and running, it was a great experience. The saw cut through trees almost like they were butter. It took so much less time than the competitor's model which we had been using that it was remarkable. I would highly recommend this chain saw for any that wants to get your work done as quickly and effortlessly as possible. A pure pleasure to operate. March 17, 2010
