I did at last get to try my new saw.I am by far no wood chuck. I have only owned a couple cheaper saws in the past.(2 craftmans,McCulloch) This saw far out performed them. I only cut cotton wood trees which is a soft wood but with a twenty inch bar there was no power problems. It is also not over heavy. I did have a little trouble filling the oil without spilling, but the is with most saws. Wish they would change that a little, but I started filling a big soft plastic squirt bottle and filled it that way. Over all it is a great saw for what cutting I do.

I chose this saw because of the power to weight ratio. I've had saws that were much heavier that didn't cut near as well. I'm in my 60s and the weight matters more and more evey year. This saw starts easily, cuts like a demon and doesn't wear you out from just trying to hold it up. I'm the proud owner of other Echo products and am well pleased with them. I've owned the other high end brands and believe Echo is just as good or better.

I had to get a replacement saw for my Homelite that died on me after very limited use over 5-yrs that I owned the saw. At the recommendation of my step-son who just happens to work for Home Depot, I checked out Echo Saws. And I'm glad that I did. After doing a lot of research online comparing various saws from Echo, Stihl and other brands as well as reading hundreds of customer reviews, I settled on the Echo CS-500P. The big turning point was when I discovered that Stihl had reduced their warranty on their chainsaws in May of this year from two years to one while Echo maintains a five-year warranty. I needed a saw that could handle trees from saplings to over 30" in diameter, that was light-weight with good power, and was durable. The CS-500P fit my needs perfectly as it sported a 20" bar, is under 13 lbs wet, and has excellent power to weight ratio. In my first use of it, which was to fell and cut up over 70 dead hardwood trees. With a week of operations under my belt with it, I am very pleasantly pleased with its performance. It is a very solidly built saw with simple ergonomic controls and is fairly well balanced even with the 20" blade. Paired with the Oregon chain that came with it, it slices through cured hardwood like butter. The chain is very sharp out of the package and holds an edge very well. I went through 20 trees before I had to sharpen it. The adjustable automatic oiler is terrific and easily adjustable depending on the intensity of cutting. And it doesn't leak bar oil all over the place when not operating like my old saw did. I love the light-weight of the saw and can't believe the power this little saw has. Even with my bad back, I was able to run this saw all day long and still walk the next day which is a significant testament in and of it's self. As for the durability, only time will tell but if lasts as well as it has performed in its first week of operations then this is going to be one awesome little saw!
