Answer:
The rating of HP for saws is actually dependent on the point of measurement. Though not entirely confirmed, Echo apparently measures theirs at the chain (sort of like rear wheel HP for vehicles I suppose). anyway it leads to slightly lower numbers than at the crank. The number commonly posted for the 680 is 4.7-4.8 hp.

The CS-680 comes standard with the 24" bar and chain. Additional bar/chain sizes are available as a separate purchase. I have listed the part numbers for the 27" bar and chain below;

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 42 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Echo Smokes Stihl and Husqvarna I bought this saw to replace a Husky that I had. I also have a Stihl. I chose this saw after reading arborist blogs. I decided that I would get great feedback, good or bad on from the people who use saws every day and depend on them for their living. The reviews were split just about even between the Stihls and Husqvarnas, mostly bad. Many of the arborists had switched completely to Echos and said that after using them, for dependability, performance and price would never go back to the others. That was good enough for me and after cutting up a tree that a friend of mine had and couldn't complete with his Stihl, both he and I were impressed. This was money well spent and no regrets. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing Saw Using this saw to take down the dying pine in the Chicago area. Just took the leap to echo with a 355T and this 680, couldn't be happier! Best is when others pull out the stihls and spend the am getting them to run as I have a tree down already. I did have a question when looking at my 24" chain. Do you ship these saws with an echo chain or do all your saws use Oregon chains and I didn't realize? The chain has been amazing and stayed sharp, but just wondered if your not making your own chains, or the dealer swapped it out? June 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by es 680 This saw works great and it keeps cutting no matter the size or type of tree April 11, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by cs 680 i bought this saw to try it has great power but after 8 months of use the saw was wore out needed new piston and rings cylinder was find not a pro saw i have stihl and huskys that are 10 plus years old same piston and rings May 1, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not as nice as I was hoping. I ran husqvarna all my life and never thought I would switch. I did switch however when the husqvarna dealer switched to a business without decent customer service. My two previous saws were a 394 xp and 371 xp. I had no problems with them but needed to upgrade. Since I knew the Echo dealer and knew that they had good service, I switched. I like my cs 680 alright but I have to say the vibration is worse. Also I have accidentally bumped the kill switch a few times in the middle of cutting. I have had to take it in a few times for things I never had problems with on my husky. Chain tensioner stripped, mount falling out a couple of times, broken bolt that holds the cover on, etc. nothing major, just annoying. Would I buy another one or recommend one to my friends? Given the situation we have here with dealers, absolutely! It sure beats the Stihls I've ran! And besides, it cost $100 less than a 372xp! February 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Saw I have had a couple of the "top" brands and the just don't run like this echo. I have had this saw for ten years and it still runs like it was new. Plenty of power. February 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good dependable saw. I have owned a couple different saws and cut firewood for money in my younger years, this is by far the best saw that I have ever owned. It's not light but it has plenty of power and starts easy. The manual chain oilier override to supplement the automatic oilier is a nice feature when cutting through a big tree trunk. I also have the CS-330T saw and the PAS 280 power head. I have not had any problems with my Echo equipment. None of my Echo equipment was cheap to buy but it not cheaply made either making it worth the price. October 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Chain Saws you'll ever buy! I have always own ECHO chain saws so I know I wouldn't have gone wrong with a larger CS-680. All the power you need, starts quickly and best of all it will idle for a long period, 5 minutes or more. Also maintaining it is very easy and well thought into the design. I now own four of them and my first one from 1985 CS-302 is still running great with no problems. November 30, 2015
