Hello hudson30189, I’m Chris from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question.
This edger will cut curves, but the process of doing so will widen the groove cut in the curved area.
I hope this helps,

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by A few unwanted surprises I did a fair amount of research prior to making a purchase; I bought the Echo because it got good reviews, and was more powerful than most others. When it arrived, it was completely assembled so no issues there. I read the manual, at which point I found that it requires at least 89 octane gasoline in its oil-and-gas 2-cycle mix. I tried with regular gas in my 2-cycle mix, which every other power tool in my garage uses, and it absolutely would not work; could not even get it to start. The manual recommends an Echo-branded mix as "optimal". I emptied out the 87-octane, went to Home Depot, and bought a 32-ounce container of the Echo mix for about $8; if you do the math, that comes to around $32/gallon, which is absurd. But, I at least wanted to make sure my unit worked, so I bought it. Once the new fuel was in the unit, it took at long time to start, but it finally did. Even in subsequent uses, using the expensive Echo-branded fuel, it is still rather difficult to start. When doing my original research, I did not see any mention of the requirement for at least 89-octane fuel. If I had, I probably would have chosen a different model and/or brand. I don't want to have to manage 3 different kinds of fuel in my garage. Otherwise, once it's running, it runs well and edges well. May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My Landscaper Told Me To Purchase This For His Use ... Killer Edger The landscaper for my apt bldg is a retired Sacramento County landscaping foreman. He told me that this tool is the industry standard for landscaping edgers. My landscaper actually uses the tool. He said it is "the best". I purchased the tool one month ago. So far, so good. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very well built I use it for maintaining clean edges and I've had to clean up over grown sidewalks. This thing breezed through all of it. Highly recommend. July 6, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Edger Initially I'm generally pleased with the edger. It is pricey compared to similar edgers. I purchased based on the name hoping to get a longer life. Not real happy with how difficult it is to get it started. Get ready to make a few pulls before it starts. Once running...no problems. BUT...it isn't very responsive to the throttle pull. There seems to be a delay when throttling up so don't expect a crisp throttle response. It doesn't seem to be a problem for performance....just seems sluggish. Still performs fine. December 15, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not a walk behind Used this twice after recently purchasing from Home Depot. Had to order it as the stores in my area do not carry edgers let alone this top model. That's a whole other story! As for the edger it works best if the area you are edging has already been edged or cut through. I think any size motor will have no trouble cutting through grass and weeds but actually carving a path not even this 28.1 will do it easily. I like it and guess I will keep it but honestly regret not buying a three or four wheel walk behind. I think for the price this has surely let me down. Do your self a favor, buy the smaller engine it will do just as good and if you aren't concerned with portability... Buy a walk behind model. May 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Powerful and Lightweight! Very Powerful and Lightweight! Some dirt did accumulate in the shroud, but it was easily scraped off with a screwdriver and I could continue working. September 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best edger! Upgraded my PE-225 and it did the first edge without any issue. I just ran behind it while it cut through everything like butter. All the anti-vibration is really nice and doesn't tire me out like on the older 225. April 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Upgraded from PE-2400 I have used Echo equipment for the past 20+ years, 8 of those years pro landscape maintenance. Had a SRM-2400 for 20 years and finally upgraded to a 280T last year. The PE-280 in an upgrade from a PE-2400 I ran for 10+ years. Still going strong, I just wanted more power. And the PE-280 delivers, this thing really rocks. Starts fast and runs great. Throttle response is snappy and midrange is smooth, top end screams. Idle is nice as well, low vibration and fairly quiet for the torque it produces. It's a very noticeable increase in power from the PE-2400 it replaced. A bit heavier, but the weight is really needed to handle the power. The blade guard assembly has some weight to it which stabilizes the blade under high power use. There was a strip along the neighbors driveway on the north side of my property that had some rocks along it that I just didn't run the edger on. Today, I pulled the rocks out with a long bar and fired up the PE-280 for a pass. It was pretty heavy overgrowth of Bermuda - it tore right through it and fast. Very highly recommended edger - this thing is a beast, lots of power. Too much power? No, just about right actually for a hand held edger, the balance between weight and power - Echo engineers nailed it - it's a bit heavier than lesser units, but this thing is fast - so, actual work time is reduced. Well worth the trade off. April 11, 2015
