Will this work with the Ryobi Expand-it system?

Even further....will this work with the Ryobi Expand-it system handle that uses the 40 volt lithium ion battery? Any information regarding compatibility with the Ryobi Expand-it system would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Asked by: WitcheeAngel
The above answers are definitely not true. While it may not be *recommended*, the Echo attachments will fit and will work in your Ryobi "Expand-it" system. The drive cable is the same size on every brand I've seen. The difference with Echo is the shaft size. The shaft of the Echo attachments is slightly more narrow than the universal homeowner brands. This also prevents you from using the universal homeowner attachments in an Echo PAS power head unless you modify those attachments to make them "thinner". This is designed, of course, to increase sales of Echo equipment. Proprietary accessories is one of the oldest tricks in the book. Most people probably just shrug and buy the higher priced Echo attachment, so it's probably not a bad business decision. However, if you are looking to upgrade your Ryobi cordless system with an Echo attachment, go for it. One other point I should make is that of all the accessories that exist, the brushcutter is probably the one that you should NOT be using on a cordless system. I think that even the Ryobi brand brushcutter is explicitly listed as an attachment that should not be used on the Ryobi electric or cordless power heads. This is probably due to safety issues and the fact that a brushcutter can destroy your equipment really quickly if you're treating it like a chainsaw and letting it agressively bang into whatever you're trying to knock down. Use attachments for your system that require less torque like a trimmer or pole saw.

Will it cut bamboo ?

Asked by: Anonymous
I haven't used it on bamboo, but based upon how it works with Scotch broom which is a harder, woody plant, I would say depends on how thick it is. Guess maybe up to ½" stalks but don't have an exact answer. Definitely would have issues cutting the larger "timber" varieties of bamboo I believe.

Will this work to cut pampas grass

Asked by: Skier813
This attachment turns your PAS power source into a dedicated brush cutter with the special 8-inch brush cutting blade. Designed for grass, garden debris and thick weeds. Do not use this blade for brush or heavy woody growth.

That's about as awesome as it gets. Along with my new ECHO PAS, which allows incredibly easy attachment changes that fit like they were meant to, I'm now a big fan of my trimmer. That's a sentence this homeowner never thought he would say. Honestly, the only word of warning that I have is that, before buying, make sure you have enough brush to sate your lust for destruction, as this zombie apocalypse style wand of annihilation doesn't slow down for anything (or anyone). If you've got the foliage, get the PAS Brush Cutter Attachment, and enjoy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from PAS Brushcutter This attachment works as it should. What needs to be improved is the blade. Within 30 minutes, the blade was dull and burning the woody stems I was cutting. I was able to find an alternative carbide blade that worked much better and for less money than the Echo replacement.

We live on the side of a mountain and have a brush mower that can't go down it without getting stuck. Took this attachment and managed to cut weeds down (mostly briars over the top of our heads) and it worked great. A bit time consuming but did what it's meant to do.

Unlike the other attachments that I have purchased for my Echo PAS from Home Depot, I had to assemble this myself (including many small easy to drop and lose parts). The barrier bar that Echo claims one must use is a joke. Didn't cut as well as I hoped, like the blade was not sharp enough. It bogged down on baccharis over an inch in diameter. Worked good on baccharis under an inch. I have the PAS 225 powerhead. I believe this attachment will work better with a stronger(gest) powerhead.

It will cut through brush but it does not pack a lot of muscle. I wanted to use the attachment to clear black berry bushes and other small bushes in my backward. I had to use it very slowly to cut anything as I was watching the gas tank draining... I switched back to use my machete which is hard work but I was done faster.

Works great for anything that the string attachment can't handle on up to small trees that are 2-3 inches around. I have a PAS 225 head so if you have the larger PAS, the attachment will probably handle even more. Worked great in combination with my hedge trimmers to clear out about 10 years worth of pricker bushes, small trees and other brush.

The provided hardware and specialty tools made up for the less than concise instructions. I originally underestimated the strength needed to handle the balance and rotational energy produced, when from fatigue or my concentrated focus failed.

My first experience with a brush cutter (and string trimmer for that matter). Works great for stuff the string trimmer can't quite manage around our pond. The largest stuff I had to cut through was maybe 1 inch but I have the feeling it would go through somewhat thicker if I had to.
