Customer Questions & Answers

what is the warranty on the reconditioned echo cs 400?

Asked by: Terry
It came with none as it was reconditioned for $199 with 10% off. I basically had 30 days to decide if I wanted it or not with Home Depot's return policy. Bottom line, I paid less than if I was buying it from a yard sale so I thought it was a deal. Mix at 35:1 and you will be fine with this or any other newer saw.

Reconditioned 18 in. 40.2 cc Gas Chainsaw is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 442.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from One mean machine.... Yes folks, I was hit hard by the Hurricane Matthew and there were about 5 75 foot trees that fell over into my back yard crushing my 4 foot high, black, chain link fence. Years ago I use to own a chain saw (it wasn't a ECHO) but it "called it quits" on me about a year ago. Since I am so happy with my ECHO edger, which has been performing for years and years without any problems, I decided to try the ECHO CS-400 with a 19 inch reach. Well friends, this little wood eater is fantastic! Always starts on the first pull (or sometimes the 2nd pull) and as long as you keep the chain sharpened, it eats through those pine & oak trees like butter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT HAPPY AND HAD TO RETURN IT. I bought this saw as a birthday gift for my self, I have an echo from the 70's a little CS-302 still going strong, So I thought when I needed a bigger saw I would buy another echo, well I went and got a CS-400 and brought it home and got to looking and this saw must have been used and returned, I know it was the display unit but I was pretty sure it was more than that, upon looking the saw over I decided to take out the plug to see if I was right because it really didn't look as though it had been used, I stuck my endoscope Camera down the cylinder and that's when I noticed it was scored extremely bad, this saw was not new or it was ran at the factory and had damage from the get go, so I got on line and done some checking and wished I had done that first because the EPA has obviously put such strict regulations on these saws with carbs being set from the factory way too lean and the mufflers being built like catalytic converters and not allowing the hot gasses to escape freely enough combined with the lean burn condition set by the mixture screws on the carb causing immediate damage, sure it has a 5 year consumer warranty but heard its not worth the paper it is written on because they will blame you for using the wrong fuel or oil and then the will not honer it, no sir, I took it back and got a refund after all the proof positive things I heard and pics I saw on many forums and videos I seen, I love my old echo but I'm not saying it's Echos fault but the engineers that design these two stroke engines that run high RPM's and are enclosed in a casing that depend on flywheel fins to cool it also allow a cat muffler that restricts the flow of hot gasses and allows them to build up and ruin what it is they just designed, well someone has to take the blame, Hey Echo send me a new saw when you can make one that will last almost 40 years like you used to; Or just send me a new CS-400 and I will do a complete out of box review and usage and follow all your factory warranty instructions and bet it still fails, but the first thing I will do is pull the plug and get that cylinder shot on the camera right out of the box just to see

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great saw for the money I looked at several brands and finally settled on the CS-400. It was a little bigger than many of the competitors in this price range, and seem to have really good reviews. I was looking for something with a little more power, a little longer chain-bar, but nothing to serious. I'm using this for residential use, so I didn't need anything too crazy. I thought it was reasonable compared to others in this class. I like the kickback guard, and the weight of the saw wasn't bad. It made my job pretty easy. I have only used this saw for two days, but it has been used quite extensively in those two days, and seemed up to the task.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best saw brand ive owned I bought the cs-400 about two weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. I cut and sell alot of wood here in the hills of southern Indiana so I needed a good saw. I looked at a couple of major brands and finally settled on echo. This saw is amazing for a little 40cc saw. I cut sycamore, white oak, and walnut with it and it keeps up with the 18 inch bar. I've owned other brands. Mainly poulan and stihl but I would recommend echo to any one. This saw replaced a 5020 poulan and it cuts way better. Also have a stihl ms250. Bigger saw but the echo out performs. My next big saw will be an echo. As well as any other yard tool

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CS- 400 Turn key right out of the box Luv it. I would defiantly buy again. I did have a Husqvana mokdel 240 that was good for a while, until I started to have issues. Would not idle right the fuel filter came of the in line tubing. What finally killed it is when the auto bar oiler failed to lubricate the the bar. By this time it was time to put it out for the Monday morning garbage. I luv all the features echo has. Push button fuel choke. Easy to get at spark plug, far better then the Husqvana I would never buy another one again. My brother has had his cs-400 for years and never had any problems. Thank you Echo. I would buy again. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great replacement for my old saw My old husqvarna saw kicked the bucket recently and I needed a replacement. After much research, I decided on the Echo CS-400 with a 18" bar. I have already used it quite a bit due to having two large oak trees laying in my back yard that needed to be cut up. This saw starts on the first pull, cuts the large tree trunks easily and limbs easily also. It is equal too or better quality that my last saw and the price is right. I have an echo blower that I have had for sixteen years and still runs great as well as an echo string trimmer... so I knew echo made quality products and this saw has lived up to my expectations. If you need a new saw.. don't be afraid to go with the Echo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Chainsaw for major projects Previously always purchased lesser quality chainsaws from "big box" stores. With the 18" diameter maple I had to take down, I thought it time to take a step up. I can now say there is no comparison in both the quality of an ECHO product (CS-400) and the level of knowledge and service dealing with David Lightkep Inc of Maple Glen PA. Both the machine and the dealer are outstanding. The saw started with easy pulling, never stalled and cut through the trunk with ease. Do your self a favor and purchase a quality machine from your local dealer the first time you're shopping for a chain saw - you'll be outfitted with a saw the meets your needs and you'll end up saving yourself money in the long run.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to start every time, never stalls I purchased another chainsaw (different brand) in October 2016. Before the end of the year, it would not start after using it about 6-7 times to cut up a tree that fell in a storm. I read reviews AFTER I bought the other brand of saw and it was a consistent issue for others. Many said they took it back and invested more in an Echo. I talked to a rep at the store I bought the other brand, and he also said the Echo was way better. Said you can really abuse it and it will always start and run smoothly. I have only owned it for about a month but so far it was performed great!
