The SRM Echomatic head does require the removal of the spool to wind the line. If you would like a head that you can wind line without removing the spool I would recommend the Speed Feed cutting head.

Answer:
No, you simply push in on two tabs to release the bump head. Extremely simple and easy to reload. After using this type of head, I never wish to use any other kind. I go from running out of string, to having a full re-load in about 5 minutes. I found this honestly to be the fastest and most effortless rewind trimmer head on the market thus far and I've been in the lawn business for many a year.

Hi Jordy,

Your trimmer head has two string chambers that fill independently. Each chamber has an anchoring slot for the string to connect to the head.
Cut two, equal length strings from the bulk spool. They should be between 6' and 8' long, each.
Insert the end of each string into the slot in the hub. Load the string by turning the spool backwards to pull the string onto the spool. This action will straighten the string as it loads.
Directional arrows are on the back of the spool. The indicator arrow for "CC" is for the straight shaft trimmers. Curved shaft trimmers load in the opposite, or "C" direction.
After the spool is filled, use the locking slots to temporarily hold the string while you load the spool onto the head. Pull the string through the holes to unlock the string after the spool is seated.
Thank you for asking,
-Travis Read Less
