I've had my string trimmer for about nine years, I think, and the head assembly was getting balky. I might have been able to get away just replacing the spool, but when I found this assembly on the shelf at HD, I figured I'd do the whole thing. This unit fits a lot of the Echo SRM-2xx straight shaft series trimmers, but doesn't list the 210 on the packaging. Looked right, though, and it is -- it fits perfectly. Getting the old assembly off was the biggest challenge. It was frozen on -- and I probably gave it a twist in the wrong direction before I figured out that it is threaded backwards (turning it clockwise loosens it). It also spins, so to hold it steady, you'll need to turn it until the slot in the guard lines up with the hole in the drive shaft above the head, and stick a nail or hole punch or something in there to keep it from turning. From there, it was simplest for me to take off the spool, unscrew the nut that holds the cam assembly in place, and pull that out, exposing the rectangular end that you can then grip with a pair of channel locks or an adjustable wrench to get enough leverage to break the head loose. Then it's just a matter of unscrewing the old assembly (again, it unscrews clockwise) and screwing on the new one, being careful not to get it cross threaded. I don't know what some other reviewers are complaining about on the line feed; this seems to work exactly the way the old assembly did -- when you need more line, rev the motor and tap the bottom of the spool on the ground, and it feeds out a few more inches. If you're having trouble, my guess is that the line inside the spool is wound backward, wound too loosely, or has gotten tangled. Take the spool off and take the time to rewind both lines tight and hook them in the slots in the spool to hold them while you thread them through the feed holes and mount the spool back in the head. I've never had problems after that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use precise cutting head with tap to extend line Just rev the engine and tap the cutting head on a flat hard surface to extend additional line when it wares out or breaks off. The auto feed Hold enough line to get you through a lot of trimming. Highly recommended !

You then find out that this is not the same high quality head that came with your trimmer. It is a cheap substitute. You have to remove the spool to load. The notches that are supposed to hold the line end when you start loading are too shallow and won't hold the end. After reinstalling the head on the trimmer, the head will fly off if you don't get the line loose from the notch or if you do not turn the head until it locks. Instructions would have been helpful.
