The version that includes the battery also comes with a charger. However, the less-expensive basic version, which does not have a battery, does not include a charger.

Will end up using much of the cut logs for growing edible mushrooms - don't want petroleum products in there.

Answer:
I would seriously NOT use Canola Oil. The chain requires a much thicker oil. What comes to mind since you don't want petroleum products would be to warm up some bacon grease and mix it with some Olive Oil (Olive Oil is thicker with a higher heat threshold than Canola) and pump it onto the chain from an oiler can as I cut the wood, or simply brush it onto the chain between cuts.

Stihl and Oregon both offer them. In addition, Motion Lotion has a bio version and Green Earth Technologies makes G-Oil. I rely on bio oil to avoid spreading petrochemicals everywhere I cut. They are biodegradable but I'm not sure they would be considered non-toxic for food product contact. Best to check with the oil manufacturer on that specific question. Read Less

Thank you for your question. We have not tested our EGO Power+ chain saw with canola oil, so we cannot vouch for it, but we have read accounts of people using canola oil with chain saws with good results. The exception noted was that performance degrades in very low temperatures.

Answer:
Officially, I would say no. Because chain oil is much thicker. It will still cool the chain in use, but will tend to seep out in storage. Growing up my dad always used black old automobile oil. My advise to you is to get some chain saw oil for reference viscosity~THEN put your canola in the fridge/freezer until you get that thickness. Drain after each use...because it is going to drain out anyway

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 175 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy! I have only used the saw twice but well worth the money already. Cut a 16" cedar tree out of the road with in minutes cut as smooth as butter. Done some topping on a 40' popular tree did not have to worry about getting my balance to pull the rope to fire it up all I had to do was press the trigger. No gas fumes or vibration. I have done both these jobs on the same battery charge. Just follow the instructions on how to charge the battery for the first time ( I think people who are having battery problems are not charging the battery fully for the first time before using the saw) put it in the saw, which came fully assembled, add your bar oil and you are ready to go. How every this saw was not meant to be used and abused with every day tree work. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best ever As I get older, and arthritis in my hands takes over a bit, the gas chainsaws are almost impossible to start. I purchased this chainsaw for the ease of use on the reviews, and WOW this is real easy to use. I have a large diameter [approx 24 inch diameter] tree that recently blew over in my yard, I have only just started cutting this up, but talk about easy, and so far I am truly impressed! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Couldn't Have Asked for More Looking for a reasonably light saw without having to use a pull cord. This fit the bill perfectly. It came fully assembled. Just had to add some charge to the battery, put in chain oil, mount the battery, (very easy), and start using. I was surprised at how much power this saw has. It easily cut through several 6 - 8 inch branches on a downed tree. It's pretty quiet too. Very happy with this purchase. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very satisfied. Price wise, it was on the higher end of the various make and models. Based on the reviews I decided to give it a try for my first electric chainsaw. Loved it. Will never go back to gas. I only use it a couple /three times a year around the house so it's perfect. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by chainsaw I was surprised how well it cuts and is not loud. Battery last a few hours not sure how long, a good product. Not real heavy. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great little saw!! Been using chainsaws for about forty years. Until now, all gas models. Can't beat gas for heavy work , but for work requiring no more than a 14-inch bar, I'll keep and use this little baby. It's relatively light weight and powerfully tenacious on everything from soft, Ponderosa and White fir up to old, burly oak and Mountain mahogany. It's also easy on the logistics end; all the petro you have to provide is chain oil- that's it! If you're like me, think you'll want to add this little jewel to your work arsenal!! May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by wow from my neighbor..... My neighbor did not know that eight palm trees were cut and place in the corner of my yard. His facial expression was priceless. Now, my yard is cleared and in no danger of it falling in a storm. Silent. lightweight, low noise level, powerful enough to do the job... next will be other trees around the yard .... June 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great chain saw for homeowner with large lot Good saw for someone who needs to fell and cut up trees a few times a year. On my lot in the wet Southeast, volunteer trees (aka "trash trees") can spring up quickly and begin crowding out other trees. Recently used this to fell a 40-ft tall tree. Battery recharges in about half an hour. November 12, 2015
