The version that includes the battery also comes with a charger. However, the less-expensive basic version, which does not have a battery, does not include a charger.

Will end up using much of the cut logs for growing edible mushrooms - don't want petroleum products in there.

Answer:
I would seriously NOT use Canola Oil. The chain requires a much thicker oil. What comes to mind since you don't want petroleum products would be to warm up some bacon grease and mix it with some Olive Oil (Olive Oil is thicker with a higher heat threshold than Canola) and pump it onto the chain from an oiler can as I cut the wood, or simply brush it onto the chain between cuts.

Thank you for your question. We have not tested our EGO Power+ chain saw with canola oil, so we cannot vouch for it, but we have read accounts of people using canola oil with chain saws with good results. The exception noted was that performance degrades in very low temperatures.

Answer:
Officially, I would say no. Because chain oil is much thicker. It will still cool the chain in use, but will tend to seep out in storage. Growing up my dad always used black old automobile oil. My advise to you is to get some chain saw oil for reference viscosity~THEN put your canola in the fridge/freezer until you get that thickness. Drain after each use...because it is going to drain out anyway

14 in. 56-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Chainsaw is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 213.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product without the mess and smell I bought my 14" chainsaw after doing some research on it, and it was everything they said and more. I have 2 1/2 acres of land with 3/4 of that being trees. I wanted to clear some land so I could build my Granddaughter a doll house...well, it worked better than expected, and the neighbours next to me didn't have a clue I was using a chainsaw..it was quiet, quick, and no gas smells anywhere. It cut trees that I first though were too much for it, but it handled it with ease..I had a slight issue, but nothing the support team couldn't handle within a matter of minutes over the phone. I'd give them an A+ on support.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Tool...Gets Job Done...Easy to Use... Charged battery fully and then got to work. Cuts through trees like butter. Easily got rid of several large limbs from trees that have been on my list. Things to know- Do Not Try To Use On Branches smaller than 2" or so as this will immediately pull the chain off. Also should you have to put chain back on be surer to remove battery first for safety. Also be sure to put blade back on correctly...I found it very easy to put it on backwards when it came off which I quickly realized whn I tried to use it and it would not cut. Also study up w some youtube videos and the manual first on how to do a proper cut...It is very easy to get the blade caught and pinched if you don't follow proper technique which can be a hassle. Overall good product...much better than the little Ryobi pole saw I use...but will continue to use that for the small branches as it does not bind up as easily. Don't get me wrong it's a nice piece of equipment and all the chainsaw I need or most will need around the home. I took out a large tree stump bout 12" wide and chopped off some very large limbs and it worked very nicely...and be sure to add your chain oil and charge up battery fully before use. After charged unplug and store charger in tool chest etc...also store your battery after you are done cutting in a safe dry place...tool chest is my choice.Be careful and have fun-

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just waht I needed I bought this saw after reading so many positive reviews from other customers. It is lightweight and is not noisy. I was able to use it to do the job I had planned with no difficulty. I was cutting up brush and some small logs from a felled tree from a storm. It cut through it well when fully charged. The charge lasted about 3 hours for me. It charges back quickly (during lunch) and I was able to get back out there to finish the job. I am a 62 year old woman and was able to handle it with ease. The instructions are good and this is my first experience with buying and using a saw. I love the quietness and ease of handling. I am now thinking that I should have gone with the 16 inch saw but was afraid of the increased weight of that tool, so I bought the 14 inch. Cuts about 4-5 inch logs without a problem. Happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An exceptional saw for small trees My mother bought this saw because she can't use the pull cord type, and it's fairly light weight. I have been using this for her and it is a great small tree saw. I do advise getting at least one spare battery that you can use while the other one charges. Luckily I also have an EGO leaf blower that shares the battery with the saw. I showed it in action to a friend who was looking for a small saw for his wife and he loved it also.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best ever As I get older, and arthritis in my hands takes over a bit, the gas chainsaws are almost impossible to start. I purchased this chainsaw for the ease of use on the reviews, and WOW this is real easy to use. I have a large diameter [approx 24 inch diameter] tree that recently blew over in my yard, I have only just started cutting this up, but talk about easy, and so far I am truly impressed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use I recently had a lot of trees down from a storm and needed to cut them up.I am 70 years old and female and had no trouble cleaning up the mess with this light weight quiet chain saw.I am actually enjoying using it.I have a wood burning stove and can make use of all the wood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delivered in ONE DAY with free standard shipping before Christmas--good job, Home Depot. Awesome ... Delivered in ONE DAY with free standard shipping before Christmas--good job, Home Depot. Awesome product--impressive power, nice construction, extremely easy to use, haven't run into battery life issues (we got this for short jobs around the yard like cutting downed branches or firewood to size). Recharges quickly. Goes right through 5-6 inch round logs with no effort. Just purchase chain oil with this product to be all set to go. Nice if you use this seasonally--doesn't matter if it sits around for a while like with gasoline versions that need more maintenance. My guy said this was the best Christmas present EVER--I mean, who doesn't want a chainsaw??
