Customer Questions & Answers

how many batteries come with this mower

Asked by: Mike
Attention... STILL one battery!

What would be the biggest yard recommended for this mower. I have a 1/2 acre city lot.

Asked by: Curious
I use mine on our 1/4 acre property and have to charge it at least once. I do have to deal with a hill though, so that slows me and the mower down.

how well does it cut wet grass

I live near the lake, my grass seems to stay wet most of the day. In shade stays wet all day.
Asked by: callred
This is my first season with the mower. It continuously clogs and I have to stop and remove the grass from underneath the mower. I have tried all three options (mulching, bagging, etc) and none seem to be effective. I have tried mowing in the middle of the day and late afternoon to see if it was the moisture.

Does the mower continue running if you remove the green key while it is running?

I think something funky happened to my Ego mower after running over a long, strong palm leaf. It no longer ramps up to full speed - it immediately starts at high speed. I'm trying to determine if the green key lock was also affected. While the mower is running and I remove the key, it keeps running until I let go of the bail lever. It seems strange if this is normal behavior.
Asked by: MoeR
Regarding concern about leaving key in mower because kids will find it: Mower won't run without battery. I keep the mower folded up, the battery in its charger, and the key strap looped around the bail so I won't lose it. Nobody will be starting that mower by accident. Lock up the charger if you are still concerned.

20 in. 56-Volt Lithium-ion Cordless Battery Push Mower is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 1632.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Mower and Excellent Warranty Bought this 2 1/2 years ago and we love it my wife uses it with ease it is very light weight. Battery charges super fast and holds charge very well. Recently motor started making a grinding noise, so I called customer service and realized i hadn't registered it so they were able to help me over the phone. Asked some questions and realized they couldn't fix the problem without replacing the motor. They are sending me a replacement mower at no cost and asked me to recycle the old one. UNREAL! I was in shock talk about standing behind your product. I will be purchasing more EGO products due to the great warranty and excellent customer service. Thank you EGO

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The end of gas as we know it - long term review I have owned my ego mower for two years as of last week. I initially purchased an electric mower after a brief experience with a battery trimmer. I do not regret my purchase one bit, it makes my life so much easier. I actually went from a three blade hydrostatic riding mower to this push mower, and believe it or not, it made my life even easier. I would wager roughly 50% of the time I spent mowing the grass with a gas mower was preparation, and cleanup. With the EGO mower, that is completely gone, and you have more time to spend on other projects. The benefits are obvious to anyone switching from a gas mower, but the mower itself has plenty of other features not found on most gas mowers. The one-touch height adjustment is very nice, no more mowing half the yard with uneven height settings or unexpected changes from bumping obstructions. The mower is very light, around 45lbs, so there is no need for self-propelled (in my opinion). The light weight also makes the mower easy to manuever. Easy storage is also a bonus. I mount my mower on the wall in front of my cars in my garage, something you could never do with a gas mower. All of my EGO tools are wall mounted, and take up no room in my garage. Do you live in a hot climate? Mow at dusk or at night! Sounds nuts, doesn't it? One of the biggest benefits of the EGO mower is they are very quiet, not much louder than a house AC unit running. You can easily mow your lawn at dusk or at night without disturbing your neighbors. The included LED lights make mowing at night actually easier than during the day, as you can see the cut path so very clearly. I live in Texas, where the typical summer day is at or above 100 F. It can be a beating if you're mowing in the late afternoon or evening. By waiting until dusk, when the sun is down, or even night, the temperature drops nearly 20 degrees, which makes for a much more enjoyable experience. As great as the EGO mower is, there are a few shortcomings that should be addressed, as any prospective owner should know. The mower has decent power, but not quite the power of a gas mower. Not only that, but the "type" of power lithium ion batteries produces is quite different. Electric motors give 100% torque at 0 RPM, which sounds great, but that comes with a sacrifice: it can tear up lawns. Most gas mowers are direct drive, or sometimes centrigual clutch. When you hit an obstruction the mower will either die, or momentarily slow down and fire right back up to the original speed. The EGO mower will slow, but keep spinning, even at very low RPM for prolonged periods of time. I should mention the EGO mower does have a load sensor which will kill the power and display a yellow LED, which requires you to power down the mower for approximately 5-10 seconds, and then it will resume. This usually will only occur when the blade is completely stopped, or the motor is under excessive load for too long. During slow-downs the feedback to the user is much less noticable than a gas mower, and can result in ripping grass out of the ground due to the slow blade speed. This is particularly evident in very thick grass such as bermuda. The trimmer also suffers from this and has a tendency to "run away," unlike gas trimmers with centrifugal clutches. The mower has three different exhaust modes from the factory: side discharge, mulch, and bagging. The mower does all three quite well. The bag attaches and detaches quite easily. The mower does a great job sending clippings into the bag, without much waste. There is room for improvement, however; the bag is quite small and can fill extremely quickly with dense lawns. When dropping my mower one height lower on a thick Bermuda grass, one pass on my lawn (roughly 80 feet) will fill the bag nearly full. Also, given the very light weight of the mower, a full bag is very noticable. I do wish the mower bag had a lip of some kind at the bottom to retain the grass better during removal. Overall, the bag and mulch inserts are easy to install and remove, and work well. As mentioned prior, thick grass can be very tricky with the mower. St. Augustine usually does very well with the mower, and the blade speed can be matched to the feed rate of your mower. Bermuda, on the other hand, has proven to be much more difficult. Thicker bermuda lawns, especially short cut higher density lawns, are much less forgiving on the mower. I find my EGO mower bogs down very badly if the lawn is not mowed on a weekly basis, sometimes requiring feed rates in inches a minute. If you push the mower too quickly, it will slow and rip grass out. All of this can be overcome with very regular maintenance, however, for the less schedule-oriented owner, this may be a concern. Battery life is acceptable on all the EGO tools, and the mower is no exception. I usually find a 1/4 acre lot can be mowed on a single battery provided the lawn is not excessively high, or thick. If the lawn is very dense, or hasn't been mowed in a week, you may find yourself needing a charge before being finished. After two years of use, I cannot conclusively say my battery has lost any life that I can discern. Charge times are between 20-30 minutes, depending on the battery level when placed on the charger. Overall, the mower is definitely worth the purchase. The time savings and reduction in maintenance is worth the investment alone. Add in the ability to mow in the evenings and at night, weight savings, fold-up wall storage options, and it becomes clear there are many benefits to a gas mower. There is no real sacrifice switching to an electric mower from a gas mower anymore. With a little more power, the mower will far exceed the capabilities of gas models, and render them obsolete overnight. The time is certainly coming!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Are you able to Mow Easily with you Ego? I thought the mower was cool when i 1st got it. I live in Florida where it rains alot throughout the summer months and mowing the lawn the day after it rains proved to be impossible. The mower stalls out constantly at the 5th height level which is the highest by the way and after 15 minutes of use it is unusable until i clean the cogged blade area as the wet grass sticks like glue to the plastic and doesnt want to go into the bag. "So clean it then!" you might say. OK except i cant spray it down with water as it says not to do that for cleaning. So I guess Im supposed to stick my hand underneath and scrape off the 3 inch thick mulched grass out. Doesnt seem right to me that just about everytime i mow the lawn i have to flip it after 15 minutes and clean it. I have 1/2 an acre of property and it takes 3 full charges to mow the lawn 1.5 hrs and i have to flip it over 6 times to clean it. Dont get me wrong i love my mower cuz it battery powered but it gets very fustrating at times. I didnt even mention i cant get the corners good because of the front end plastic and the mower will turn off randomly because the side latches constantly pop off causing the safety to engage and shut off the mower.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Almost great mower; however seriously flawed. I wish I could could give this mower a better rating; because, my wife and I both loved using this mower; it is light weight and plenty powerful enough for even the Hawaiian cane grass, or not mowing for a month. Unfortunately, it is of horrible design. It has been 9 months, and we have gone through 2 already! There seems to be a design flaw that puts the electrical motor directly above the cutting blade, with holes that allow small rocks and debris to enter directly into the inside of the electric motor! Our first one's died because one of the motor's magnets broke after striking a small rock hidden in the grass. The second one got bound up and the motor could barely turn the blade anymore, and there is no way to easily get to anything other than the blade, so you cannot just open up and clean out the debris that get into the motor. I would not buy one again until they are designed a little more robust and realistic to the real world.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use I have found this lawn mower to be very easy to use. We live on a hill and the larger back wheels and light chassis make mowing no problem. I find no difference in power between this mower and our last gas powered mower, which was a pleasant surprise. I love that I don't have to worry about pulling a cord to start the mower. The winding shape of our yard makes working with a cord out of the question - cordless is definitely the way to go and the battery lasts plenty long enough to do the whole yard without any problem. I do wish that the fan wasn't as loud. I had hoped for a quieter experience, but it is still better than a gas powered engine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Goodbye gas Have owned this mower for 2+ years now and love it. The freedom from gas and oil, and all the complications of a gas engine is so great, No fumes, spills, leaks, transporting and storing gas, pulling on cords, changing spark plugs, etc. Battery charges fast and mower is powerful. Nice to be able to start and stop with the simple press of a button. Quieter than gas mowers. Highly recommended if you own a typical home in a neighborhood and are in the market for a new mower. More expensive than the rest but worth it when considering the simplicity and other expenses that are not needed any longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Investment I thought long & hard about spending this much on a battery powered lawnmower. It was the best move I could have made. The machine is quiet, yet powerful. I am impressed with the mulching capability and the cut is great. I am considering purchasing a second blade so that I always have a sharp one on hand. The battery lasts for the entire cut. I mowed the neighbors yard as well and when the battery was dry I put it on charge while I went in the house for a cool beverage. Within 20 minutes it was sufficiently charged to finish her lawn. I replaced a corded electric mower and do not miss dragging a cord around at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used it all summer Bought the mower this spring and was impressed right of the box.All the good reviews have been true for me. We have a huge yard that almost takes an hour to mow and the battery always lasts. It's at the end but finishes. Now that its fall I was interested to see how it handled bagging leaves and it was just as good as my gas mower. See pictures. Recommend buying the mower first because it has the bigger battery. Then when you add other tools, you will, I did. You now have the big battery in your arsenal. Also have the blower and chainsaw and love them all.
