Customer Questions & Answers

Wrench

Do you absolutely need to use a torque wrench for intallation?
Asked by: zumee
No. The bolt that holds the blade on is threaded so that as the mower runs, it tends to tighten the bolt.

How long should blade stay sharp?

i bought my mower late last year.Along with the grass trimmer, blower. and today I just ordered the hedge trimmer. Love all the EGO products. The mower is perfect for my yard, just wish the blade would keep sharper longer for all I spent.
Asked by: Zook
I have no idea how long lawn mower blades generally last, but I bought my mower last year and have had no issues with the blade being not cutting properly. I have sharpened it lightly this summer. However, this morning, on inspecting the blade I noticed good size dings on both sides of the blade, which was probably due to running over a rock or something hard. I do have river rock along on both sides of my lawn that sometimes travel onto the lawn, so I suspect this is what caused the dings, so now I'm on this website to find out the cost of a new one.

Have used mower only one time and why is blade already chipped on first use?

Product not durable.
Asked by: LawnGuy88
All it takes is one rock or one stout piece of wood to chip the blade. Steel is hard, but when the blade is spinning at high speed, it takes little mass to have an impact.

Blade not picling up debree

Whenever I finish mowing I set the mowers to low clearance and then clear the sidewalks. This mower does not pick up nor blow the debree away. Though I cuts the grass great, I would like it to pick up the small debree somehow. Any ideas?
Asked by: Woodsheep
Thank you for your question, Woodsheep. While clearing debris from sidewalks was not one of the many performance criteria for our mower, we wonder if you have tried the side-discharge chute for this purpose? Please give it a try.

It is usually best to replace with the manufacturer's original blade. The blade was sent to the local Home Depot in a prompt manner. The only problem I had was with the packaging of the blade itself. The shape edges of the blade were protruding out of the box which was obviously too small.

Mowing season is almost over for this year, but I thought it might be nice to start out with a new blade next spring. It was the exact replacement part for my EGO mower, and installation only took a couple of minutes. If I get bored this winter, I might even sharpen the old blade in order to have a backup!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very easy install Considering this is the only maintenance needed on the mower it was very easy even for me who is not good at fixing things.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Average Multifunction Performance This is an all-in-one blade that is capable of bagging, mulching, and (in theory) side discharging. On thick Bermuda it is very good for bagging, but struggles to mulch well without bogging down and activating the mower's overload protection shutoff, and in my experience is very ineffective for side discharging. Note that while the hole sizes and spacing are somewhat common, this exact combination makes this a unique blade that will likely only fit the Ego mower and cannot be replaced by any other blade. Here are the detailed specs: Length: 19 3/8" (max clearance 19 5/8") Center hole diameter: 11/16" Outside hole diameter: 3/8" Outside hole spacing: 1 7/8"

Rated 2 out of 5 by from EGO mower blade The blade has almost no fin on the back, and doesn't lift the blades of grass to cut them. It has a hard time cutting the grass that the tire rolls over and lays down. I love the mower, it's quiet, light weight, east to push, and maneuver, and has plenty of power for an average lawn. They just need to redesign the blade for better lift . It won't pick up any clippings that fall on the sidewalk, like my Snapper does. I'm going to modify mine.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Out of Balance It's out of balance right off the bat. So it made my EGO mower shake and vibrate. Had to put the old blade back on to finish the mow. Also realized that this new blade isn't all that sharp. How to check blade balance: Insert a screwdriver through the blade's center hole. The blade should be evenly balanced on the screwdriver. File more on the side that is lower. Hope this helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharpen the Blade I've had the Ego mower for a year now and I love it. It's half the weight of a gas powered mower and cuts beautifully. The only thing that makes this machine better is sharpening the blade. The blade is pretty dull from the factory. If you sharpen the blade with a metal file you will extend your mower runtime and get an even better cut.
