Answer:
Yes, all the EGO power+ batteries are interchangeable. The 2.5Ahr battery is the right one for the hand held models as it is light. You can go to a larger Ahr rating battery for longer run time but the weight of the battery increase with the Ahr rating.

They don't sell battery-less units off the shelf. Online is the only way they'll ship a battery-less unit to the store. If you want a battery included then you CAN buy in the store.

They can't stock everything in the store, so it makes sense that this option would be available online only. It's really very easy. BTW, if you have just one other EGO tool, it may be a good idea to go ahead and purchase the second one with a battery so you'll have a spare. Just a spare battery alone costs $130+ after tax, and a charger is $70+ after tax. So, $100+ after tax for a spare battery and charger is a good deal. They do wear out. Read Less

24 in. 56-Volt Lithium-ion Cordless Hedge Trimmer - Battery and Charger Not Included is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 360.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Soft blade dulls very quickly. the rest is great. I purchased two of the trimmers and both have so much wear after an hour of usage that I returned one and am debating what to do with the one I still have. The balance, controls and all else is great. the only thing that spoils the product is the quality of the blade. My Ryobi trimmer has been used on the same bushes as the Ego, for more than 10 years and shows nearly no gouging or damage to the blades. I have never sharpened that blade. Mind you, I'm not cutting anything I shouldn't and I keep the blade well lubed. I am using the trimmer on pittosporum, Bright & Tights (Carolina Laurel) and other similar bushes. I own the 21SP Ego Mower, 15" string trimmer, 530 CFM blower and love them all, so it's not like I have anything against Ego products. I think they are amazing. I'm not the only one to complain about this blade. Someone else online said they spend as much time sharpening as the do using the hedge trimmer. That's not good! Perhaps Ego can source some better metal for the blade and issue a recall??

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use Wonderful hedge trimmer. No cord to get ink your way. 24" blade length is a perfect length for hedges and makes it easy to get high areas around tall shrubbery. Battery life was great but you can't waste time. I have a full acre lot with lots of trimming to do and I was able to get 3/4's of it done before switching. With better planning I should be able to do it with one battery. Blade is very sharp and cuts through small limbs easily. Thanks for making a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Stuff A few weeks ago I bought this unit after reading many reviews of my options. The unit actually is light weight (I'm 64) and the battery is unbelievable. With sensitive ears I do wear ear protection if using it for a long time. The two-handed controls actually are ok since it allows you to grab and move the unit with either hand on it while getting into position and by requiring 2 hands to use, it does add a safety aspect to its use which is fine by me. Give the unit 3 seconds to come up to speed before engaging in cutting. So far so good - expect to say the same a year from now. Expensive but who likes cheap tools that don't perform?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great yard tool! I bought the string trimmer after the gas powered trimmer once again refused to start. I couldn't be happier with a piece of equipment that lives up to the claim "power beyond belief". When it came time to trim back ornamental grasses around the yard, I didn't hesitate in buying the EGO hedge trimmer, even though I had a 1-1/2 year old Stihl hedge trimmer. The QUIET operation of the equipment alone would be a great selling point. Add to that the functionality on a par with any gas powered equipment and this is a no-brainer. I look forward to a world of electric yard equipment. The world will thank us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just a monster! I have a very large tree/shrub in my front yard that had gotten out of control. My piddly little Black & Decker corded electric trimmer wasn't up to the task, with it's short blade. The EGO Power + Hedge Trimmer and it's extra long blade allowed me to get to the top and middle of the monstrous shrub/tree/thing and now it looks more like Elmo, rather than Oscar. With the battery installed, the unit is a tad heavy - but still feels well-balanced. The long blade is also nice when trimming the top of the hedges on either side of my property - much easier to keep them nice and level. Great product!
Date published: 2016-08-29
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product with the exception of one problem. Trimmer works really well and the battery life was more than enough for my purpose. However...This product had been returned to Home Depot and was restocked for sale. Either the reason for the return was not asked for or the product was not inspected prior to restocking or both. The blade guard was installed upside down making It impossible to remove due to the screws & nuts on the underside of the blade catching the guard. Had to split open the guard to get it off. Using rubber bands to hold it together, now, when in use. Will have to purchase a replacement guard in near future.
