Customer Questions & Answers

What if I already have the battery and charger since I purchased the lawn mower?

I do not want to pay for another battery and charger...
Asked by: gg
Purchase the item online. I've checked several Home Depot stores in my area and they all sell the products with the battery and charger. Save yourself money and time (by not driving to several stores like I did) and buy the product online. Home Depot offers free shipping for the items.

Does the EGO hedge trimmer have an auto control swich for continue running whhile cutting the hedges?

Asked by: Dmjr62
No, you must hold both handles to keep the tool running, as a safety feature. The hedge trimmer is powerful enough to amputate fingers, so it would be unsafe for a "lock on" feature.

Does it have a built-in bubble level to assist with level cutting of hedges?

I have the Ego mower and blower, which I absolutely love. But I hesitate to purchase the hedge trimmer unless it has a level to assist me in cutting my hedges evenly. Otherwise, all of my hedge tops will be sloped. Ego is such a progressive company that I assumed they would be a step ahead of everyone in this area.
Asked by: njg4695
No, sorry it doesn't have a bubble level built in. I'm not sure if I've ever heard of that feature in a hedge trimmer though. Might I suggest duct tape and a torpedo level?

But this hedge trimmer was a huge disappointment due to a fatal flaw, which is that the blades get very easily nicked/dull. They claim to use hardened steel, but I have cheaper battery units (and more expensive gas units) that have NEVER needed sharpening. I used it for a total of 10 minutes, took a look at what had become of the blades and had to finish the job with another battery unit that showed no wear at all after about 20 minutes on the same material. I had hoped to "standardize" on EGO only products, but I can't recommend the hedge trimmer until they fix the blade issue

I am an older female and it is lightweight and easy to handle. It also does an awesome job of trimming hedges. I also own an EGO weed trimmer and leaf blower and love both of them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Soft blade dulls very quickly. the rest is great. I purchased two of the trimmers and both have so much wear after an hour of usage that I returned one and am debating what to do with the one I still have. The balance, controls and all else is great. the only thing that spoils the product is the quality of the blade. My Ryobi trimmer has been used on the same bushes as the Ego, for more than 10 years and shows nearly no gouging or damage to the blades. I have never sharpened that blade. Mind you, I'm not cutting anything I shouldn't and I keep the blade well lubed. I am using the trimmer on pittosporum, Bright & Tights (Carolina Laurel) and other similar bushes. I own the 21SP Ego Mower, 15" string trimmer, 530 CFM blower and love them all, so it's not like I have anything against Ego products. I think they are amazing. I'm not the only one to complain about this blade. Someone else online said they spend as much time sharpening as the do using the hedge trimmer. That's not good! Perhaps Ego can source some better metal for the blade and issue a recall??

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's solid and lightweight It's a little intimidating buying a cordless electric power tool, but this one seems solid and it can actually cut through any branches that fit in the blade path. I tried a Kobalt first and it was jammed and smoking within the first 10 minutes of use. I've never heard of this brand EGO, but I would definitely buy this again. Also, it is so much lighter than any of the other similar hedge trimmers. I looked at my local store and most of them weigh around 11 lbs. This one is only around 6 lbs. It also has a nice safety feature that requires both hands on the tool to make it run. If you're considering a cordless hedge trimmer, this is a great one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Stuff A few weeks ago I bought this unit after reading many reviews of my options. The unit actually is light weight (I'm 64) and the battery is unbelievable. With sensitive ears I do wear ear protection if using it for a long time. The two-handed controls actually are ok since it allows you to grab and move the unit with either hand on it while getting into position and by requiring 2 hands to use, it does add a safety aspect to its use which is fine by me. Give the unit 3 seconds to come up to speed before engaging in cutting. So far so good - expect to say the same a year from now. Expensive but who likes cheap tools that don't perform?
