Answer:
Purchase the item online. I've checked several Home Depot stores in my area and they all sell the products with the battery and charger. Save yourself money and time (by not driving to several stores like I did) and buy the product online. Home Depot offers free shipping for the items.

You can by the one without the battery. If you are going to buy additional tools, I would recommend buying one with a battery and charger so you will have a back up, since the battery and charger alone cost as much as the tool/battery combo. I bought the hedge and line trimmers with batteries because they are the least expensive. I will get the blower and chainsaw as tool only.

According to the assoicate that helped me out as long as it is the same voltage (i.e. 56-Volt) then you don't need another one. However, I am the type of person where two batters can never hurt.

I don't believe HD sells the tool without the battery. Generally I would prefer to have two batteries. Don't really need two chargers. It's nice to have multiple batteries just so you don't have to change it from one tool to the other every time you pick up a different tool, plus if one goes dead you don't have to wait to charge a battery before you can continue to work.

This hedge trimmer is available as a bare tool (without a battery and charger) for your convenience. You can definitely use the battery from your mower in this hedge trimmer. Just search for this hedge trimmer on Home Depot's website with model number HT2400 and that should bring up the bare tool version.

Mine came with the battery and the charger but you can buy the same model without the battery and charger. It is my first EGO product. If you already have one of the EGO products with the 56V battery you can buy this without a battery and charger and use the battery you already have.

No, you must hold both handles to keep the tool running, as a safety feature. The hedge trimmer is powerful enough to amputate fingers, so it would be unsafe for a "lock on" feature.

Does it have a built-in bubble level to assist with level cutting of hedges?

I have the Ego mower and blower, which I absolutely love. But I hesitate to purchase the hedge trimmer unless it has a level to assist me in cutting my hedges evenly. Otherwise, all of my hedge tops will be sloped. Ego is such a progressive company that I assumed they would be a step ahead of everyone in this area.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 297 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It's solid and lightweight It's a little intimidating buying a cordless electric power tool, but this one seems solid and it can actually cut through any branches that fit in the blade path. I tried a Kobalt first and it was jammed and smoking within the first 10 minutes of use. I've never heard of this brand EGO, but I would definitely buy this again. Also, it is so much lighter than any of the other similar hedge trimmers. I looked at my local store and most of them weigh around 11 lbs. This one is only around 6 lbs. It also has a nice safety feature that requires both hands on the tool to make it run. If you're considering a cordless hedge trimmer, this is a great one! October 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent product easy to handle and more powerful than I thought it would be. Outstanding product. October 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A good choice! This trimmer is light enough for both my wife and I. I thought it might be necessary to use the battery from the string trimmer to finish our hedges but one fully charged battery is enough. September 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by EGO 24 in. Cordless Hedge Trimmer This home-use trimmer is sufficiently long, well balanced and easy to hold, powerful and sharp right out of the box. The battery is strong and long-lasting. What is particularly nice is not being teathered to an electrical cord or to the noise and smell of a gas-powered system. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Working out just great! I'm satisfied with the results I'm getting from this tool. Plenty of power to trim my 30 year old, 30'Lx6'Wx5.5'H privet hedge. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very useful tool Another fine product from EGO. Battery performance is excellent. Quality of product is more than average too. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Extremely Satisfied The Cordless Hedge Trimmer is extremely powerful. I have used it several times and have yet to recharge the battery. The 56-volt Lithium-ion battery is a work horse. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hedge Trimmer!! This was one of the first EGO products I tried. It sold me on buying the entire line of EGO lawn equipment. This has the same cutting power as my gas trimmers do. It's able to cut through anything that fits between the blades like butter. I have a lot of bushes around my yard and the battery does about half of them off one charge. Mind you a 60ft long section of my hedges are about 14ft high so not too bad on battery life. Since I have 4 batteries and 4 chargers, it's never an issue. Plus the charger recharges the battery pretty quickly so if you only buy this product, there won't be a long down time waiting for the battery to recharge. May 20, 2016
