I opened my new EGO 56V Lithium-Ion Battery Powered Hedge Trimmer and was extremely excited. There aren't any major assembly steps or the need to read an extensive manual. Super simple and easy! I took the battery and charged it up. That took about 25 minutes. Once charged, I clicked the battery into the hedge trimmer and went to work. That simple!
Out of the box: There are 4 pieces that come in the box. The hedge trimmer, blade cover, battery, and charger. Simply packed in a simple box.
I took some pictures, please see below. Also, check out my video as I trim the hedge behind my house.
I hope this helps you. I TOTALLY recommend this trimmer. I don't think that i'll use my other trimmer now that I have the new EGO. It's SO LIGHT! I can take it anywhere!
The best thing about it is the safety feature of the dual-handle system. The blades cannot engage if both handles aren't depressed. There is a forehand front grip and a rear hand grip. If you see in my video, I demonstrate how both need to be pressed in order to engage the blades.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by sacherjj Best hedge trimmer for my needs that I have ever used.
Basics of the trimmer. 56V 2Ah battery, which is much larger than you might be used to with typical power drills and the like. It integrates well with the body and the trimmer balances well. There are two switches (see pictures) a grip main trigger, where many use finger triggers, and a safety trigger around the second hand grip. I worried that you would have to pull up in the center of the circular grip, but the design is well done and enables the switch at any place you can grip. This makes hand grip position very flexible and makes cutting more ergonomic. I also like that you can release either of the two trigger switches to stop the blade without removing the other. Then making the switch again restarts. The main grip trigger is less fatiguing than a finger based trigger can get over a long use.
There is only one thing that seemed weird at first, but I quickly adjusted to it. When the switches are made, it takes just under a second before the cutters move. This is like an electronic soft start. It really isn't any different than a gas motor reving up on a gas trimmer or string trimmer.
This is the third type of hedge trimmer I have owned, after a typical AC extension cord trimmer and a gas powered professional trimmer. I think the best way to describe the function of this trimmer is to compare to those styles.
My first trimmer was the under $100 extension cord type. Those typically have stamped blades that cut OK. They do have a little more power and around double the cyclic rate of this trimmer. I found that this trimmer got through thicker pieces than a typical electric trimmer. However, due to the slower cycle rate, I needed to go a little slower to get a clean cut when doing passes. With some bushes over 100 feet from AC power, using a cord isn't easy or practical. I don't feel like this trimmer gives anything up compared to an AC trimmer in us, with the exception of a little more weight to hold.
My second trimmer was an expensive chain saw gas engine style trimmer. I purchased this to "cut the cord". It isn't that difficult to get it going each time, but dealing with 2-cycle gas mixing and getting it running is much more work than this device. The other issue I have with the gas trimmer is the size of it. Reaching out over bushes really uses the muscles, due the the extra weight. This trimmer solves all the issues that forced me to purchased the gas trimmer, without the mess and extra weight. It cuts through about 80% of the size of branches that I can with the gas trimmer. But realiztically, this is as large of a branch you should be using a trimmer for anyway (see pictures for two examples of branches I cut through with this trimmer.)
What is my final verdict? I gave the cord based trimmer to someone else a while ago. After using this trimmer to do half of the bushes around my house, I plan on selling my gas trimmer and using this exclusively. While I received this in the seeds program for free to use and review, I wish I had purchased this for the full price instead of the gas trimmer. It is 60% of the cost that I paid for the gas trimmer. I don't know how long the batteries will last, but the trimmer itself has a 5 year warrantee. Simply, this is the best trimmer for my uses that I have ever used.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0Â by Lorena Powerful Cordless Trimmer Cuts Fast and Easy!
The box says it comes with a battery but mine came with an empty battery box. Iâm still able to use it as I have another EGO cordless equipment that came with the battery and charger, but make sure yours has an actual battery inside the battery box because it should be included. The trimmer is very light, but the battery is a bit heavy (feels like 5 lbs) making this trimmer tiring on the arm with the need to take a break, especially if youâre cutting tree branches where you have to stretch/lift your arm to reach higher braches. I tested this by cutting some branches of a small tree I have in my backyard, and of course I donât want to carry a ladder around so I walked around with my arm extended to reach the branches I needed to cut and my arm got tired. However, I donât believe this would be as powerful with a smaller battery, so you give some take some. Itâs still better than a gas or corded electric trimmer. This is very powerful and cuts easily up to ¾â thick with 3000 strokes per minute and a 24 inch blade. I like the safety on/off switch, which requires that you press the switch on both handles before the unit starts and it will stop when you release either. Keep the blade cover for storage. I wish I could film this cutting but since it requires both hands to operate I canât film myself.
This trimmer requires very little maintenance: Cleaning, lubricating and sharpening the blades, shown in the manual included (Spanish and English). Never use water to clean the blades, only use resin solvent spray.
It comes with a 5 year warranty on the equipment and 3 year for the battery and charger, which is actually a very good warranty compared to other cordless units in the market. The warranty is not transferable.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by Pohonui Simply the best hedger!
24 inches of trim in a matter of seconds! Sharp, fast, efficient, lightweight - a wonderful hedger for my acre of brush (mostly huckleberry) and my gardens. This is another of EGO's wonderful battery operated pieces of equipment. The 56-volts lasts a good hour and with a back up battery and a quick 30-minute re-charge (that's all it takes), I am on my way to a days work. AND...one of the best parts - no more cut up extension cords for my husband to repair! I will never go back to gas-powered or electric again. This is a fantastic hedger, does a wonderful job, cleans up nicely and even comes with a sheath for storing and protecting the blade. Definitely worth purchasing if you haven't already! Hedger comes with great instruction manuals , plus, this company has an excellent website with videos of their tools and online manuals as well.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by Terry Absolutely a great product. Caveman can operate it (No offense to Cavemen!)
One of the excellent products I've used. This is the "Tesla" amongst the yard tools I have in my house. Such a neat product and loves the no hassle assembly & operation. This battery powered beast is very easy to use and very light weight. Charges fairly quicker than I expected. Comes in a great packaging and very easy instructions. All you need to do is charge the battery and you are ready to go.. Works really well, way better than all my other tools for sure.
