The Elaine illusion 3x8 tiles that have a design in them seem totally different in color. Looking at the Elusion Ice color. Are they suppose to look different. When I put them together in the store the color of the smaller tiles really seemed different. Understand I can order the directly to make sure I get the same run lot number.

The "tile use" section of the specifications here says "shower wall," but it also says its non-vitreous. This seems inconsistent. Is it?

Home depot website says not to use non-vitreous (or even semi-vitreous) in bathrooms. http://www.homedepot.com/hdus/en_US/DTCCOM/Home_Services/Tile_Flooring/Tile_Flooring_Buying_Guide/Docs/ceramic_tile_label_info.pdf
Why do the specs say that this tile can be used for shower walls if it is non-vitreous? Can it or can't it?

Hello Larry, thank you for your question. The manual you mentioned is a general guide, specific tile application are recommended by manufacturers. The water absorption rate (Non-vitreous) is obtained by boiling the tile in water and measuring the weight gain after a specific amount of time. The water absorption will directly affect the way the tile absorbs moisture from the setting material and thus the bond that is established, it is also important for freeze-thaw conditions. Glazed wall tiles are considered non-vitreous because of the porosity of the body of the tile. However, once the tile is glazed, the surface of the tile receives a vitreous layer which makes the tile vitreous on its surface. For this reason we recommed it for shower wall. Water on the shower wall does not accumulate, and the vitreous layer is enough to protect the back of the tile from moisture. Read Less

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for the bath I chose this tile because it was larger than the traditional 4x4 tile but small enough to work well in the space I needed it for. I used it on both the tub surround and the shower walls. June 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent color and texture the textured effect makes this tile elegant and the colors make it a nice soft naturally light for our kitchen walls January 31, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Floor tile and wall do not match Disappointed in myself, I did not read the reviews. The wall tile appears beige and the floor tile appears gray. I did not notice it until my husband completed the job and it was too late! Either color tile by itself is very nice but together- not so good. April 22, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Adequate wall tile I purchased this tile for shower walls. I liked the glossy finish and the rectangular dimension for the space. It was lightweight. The tiles appear to have a uniform finish and coloring. The color effect was a little darker than I anticipated. July 22, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Mismatched Colors between sizes The 8 X 12 tiles are have a definite beige tint when compared to the 12 X 12 tiles, which are grey/white. I'm matching existing bathroom tiles to the 12 X 12 coloring but need 8 X 12 size, I'll have to buy the 12 X 12 size and cut them to the proper size, equating to more time, and more $. I wouldn't recommend this on a new project where both sized are needed. March 21, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Color mismatch I give the overall rating poor since you must be careful that the coordinated wall tiles and floor tiles DO NOT MATCH. The ICE color that we selected is more beige on the walls and more gray on the floors. was too late for us to see this after it was installed. I have never seen such a mismatch before on coordinated tiles December 4, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This is the most versi-tile selection! I love this tile because it goes with any color you may want to use in the bathroom for towels, shower curtain - it is shiny and absolutely elegant and beautiful. I have already done two bathrooms in this tile with the matching decorative border and matching floral tile and I am planning to do another one too! October 31, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Extremely happy, bathroom looks great! The tiles are very good, nice color, look great. I am very satisfied and happy that I chose these ones after a lot of search. November 6, 2012
