Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. The screen on door can be removed if it needs to be replaced. Otherwise, it should stay in the door all year long. If the insect screen is removed, the window no longer has a surface to seal against, which in turn causes the window to rattle. - Lea

Customer Reviews

36 in. x 80 in. 300 Series White Universal Triple-Track Aluminum Storm Door with Nickel Hardware is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 94.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Second door, same issues This is the second time I purchased this same door. Both times this door rotted from the inside out. The first time I tried a warranty claim, but was turned down because the labeling inside the door had come off. I bought the second door hoping the design had change. It didn't and it was the exact same door. I bought the second door 6 years ago and it's doing the same thing....rotting from the inside out. I decided not to even try a warranty claim (which isn't very good). I went with another door that was designed and built better from a different store. This door MIGHT be ok if it's not expose to the weather. However, what storm door isn't exposed to some type of weather. I would not recommend this door to anyone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from EMCO needs to change design I am having the same issue as described in other negative reviews. The door was already replaced once and I just noticed that the replacement door is experiencing the same issue with the door skin rotting from the inside due to moisture getting between the wood core and the aluminum skin. The original was purchased in Sept 2010 and the replacement 3 years later. Seems with multiple people having the same issue, Anderson would have found a solution to the problem and changed the design. Guess it's cheaper to keep supplying replacements..

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Issues... When contractor went to install the door they found the Z-bar's (side frames) were cut to the same size as the door, when they are supposed to be atleast 1/2" longer. So we had to go back to Home Depot to switch out these z-bars for another but they were all the same. The helpful worker then went to the next size up and took the zbars out of that box for us so the contractor could cut them to the right size. Then he installs the door and the door knob wont latch, it has to be built out so it reaches the door frame. Then the screen was on 2 different tracks, it took a while to get the screen to the correct track. Wont be buying another one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product without quality and warranty We have in our house two door like this. One is rusty and bumpy (see pictures attached) and after we get in contact with the customer service, they just said what you can see below. This is bad, in addition these panels are not offered as a part for replacement. Therefore we have to buy a new door. Customer Services answers: 1st "We are sorry to learn that the panel is deteriorating but the warranty for door is not transferable. You may refer to the attached file for more information about the warranty." 2nd "The warranty only applies to the original purchaser of the door. The former owner of the house will not be able to file a claim for the door since they do not live on the house where the door is installed anymore. We are sorry but we are unable to provide you the cost of the panel since it varies. We suggest that you contact Home Depot or other Andersen dealer near your place."

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Happy Wife, Happy Life. We purchased this door to replace one of the same model. Our primary concern was a full screen which limits our options. The door is sturdy and easy to install following the instructions. The reason we replaced the origin door was because it rusted through on the bottom. While installing the new one i noticed that the wood core is not sealed which led to to rust through of the original. I am going to remove the door, partially disassemble it and prime and paint the core along all four edges. Hopefully this will protect the core from moisture and prolong it life. I was disappointed to find the door constructed in this manner but my spouse is pleased to have a full screen door. Happy Wife, Happy Life.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice door, great installation flexablity, but way more than 1 hour installation It is a high quality door with great curb appeal, but the install took a good bit longer than the stated one hour, at least if you want it done right. Perhaps if you were installing 10 of them, the tenth one might go in in 1 to 2 hours. ;-)

It looks good and the install is ok, there are some minor issues with getting it done. The screen and window design is terrible. It's very difficult to get the screen in and out. The windows are too far apart as they don't press on one another where they overlap. The top window does not go all the way up into the frame leaving a significant gap. The windows are loose causing a lot of rattle every time you open and close the door. Living in upstate NY with plenty of rain, the windows leak allowing water to get past the bottom edge of the lower window and run down the inside of the door. Honestly, this is a terrible miscue on the design. A "storm" door that lets rain in??!! I am removing the door and returning it to Home Depot.

The doors were well packaged and avoided any damage. The Oops-proof installation with instruction and various jigs and templates were helpful. While doable, the instructions are a bit complex and took a good bit of time to master for someone not trained in the art or overly familiar with carpentry. The only caution, was that the door color "almond" is on the lighter brighter shade and doesn't match other manufacturers almond color, almost appearing white next to the trims.
