does the doggie door lock when not in use ????
Asked by: ranger
You must put the locking, plastic cover into place to "lock" the dog's opening. The storm door can be kept locked at all times, if you wish.

Wondering if this would be adequate for a labrador retriever?

Does the storm door itself lock? The previous question only answered about the pet swing/flap.

Asked by: Lisa
The storm door does come with an inside latch to lock the door. It does not have a key and can only be locked and unlocked from the inside.

Does all hardware come in box? Including door closure, hinge(s), screws/washers, handle.

Asked by: chris
Everything to install the door comes in the box. You will need a drill and drill bits, screwdriver and a pencil. Everything else is included.

I was trying to tackle it by myself because my husband wasn't home and I was anxious, but you definitely need two people. I was a little apprehensive about the quality of the doggie door but it's been over a month now and I am quite pleased. I have two moose for dogs (both over 70lbs) and they both fit through no problem. I absolutely LOVE the convenience of the dog door....I wish I had have bought this sooner!

It was installed by a very respected local contractor. It has been a terrible purchase. Within the first year, the hinge broke. I repaired it myself with heavy gauge wire as a temporary fix. I did call Anderson/EMCO and had a new hinge sent out under warranty with no issues. The contractor still needs to be paid to install it. Just after a year when the warranty expired, the door handle broke. It was a small piece inside the handle. I could not find a replacement handle locally that fit the same as the broken one, so I had to order it through EMCO. Then, the closer broke. Finally, approximately 18 months after purchasing this door, the doggie door broke. The vinyl piece that allows the door to swing just split and there is now a hole where part of the doggie door should be. The cost of the new doggie door is ridiculous and Anderson/EMCO was not very helpful. My family consists of Myself, my wife, two children and our dog. Our dog is medium sized and we are not hard on this door. Our front storm door is used maybe 4-5X more often than this EMCO door, it has been installed for nearly 10 years and we have no problems with it. Do yourself a favor and buy a quality storm door and have a quality doggie door installed in it. You will save time and aggravation. Anderson and EMCO are not products I will look to purchase in the future.

After only 18 months, the flap fell off the pet door. I contacted the manufacturer, Andersen, and the warranty for the pet door is only covered for 1 year and it costs $106.00 to get a replacement. That's almost half the value of the entire door. When I purchased this door, the one deciding factor of buying it was it advertised a 10 year warranty. Guess i should have read the fine print. The door itself works great and I would give the door 4 stars, but since Andersen does not stand behind their products and the outrageous price for a replacement part, I gave it only 1 star. I would not recommend this product and urge buyers to look elsewhere for a pet friendly door.

Our 6yo 17-lb terrier mix can't/won't budge this door open, even though she'd previously used a pet door in her old home. Either we need to replace it with a flap door she can manage (which will let in the weather, and bugs) or just keep this pet door shut with the handy cover and chalk it up to a lesson learned. Hindsight: Should have put a smaller, more flexible pet door into a standard door ourselves.

We bought this storm/pet door when we bought a new house to give our labs a door out while we were at work until we could find a more permanent solution. The door was fairly simple to install and complete with all hardware, and works like a champ. The hydraulic closer is plenty strong to manage the door and close it quickly. It's been on for three months and works great! I really like the three-hinge dog door, it's heavy and thick, and magnetically locks up very well, which is a huge improvement over our last door which just had a vinyl flap that any breeze would open. I highly recommend this door. We have two large field labs (100lbs!) and both fit easily through the door.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great door, exactly what I needed We bought and installed the door ourselves, we have not done very many "do it yourself" projects but these instructions were easy to follow. The door looks great and keeps the cold out while letting our dogs go in and out as they please. I have a pug and a boxer and they both are great with this door. The only reason it got 4 stars instead of 5 is the handle is really stiff. It's hard to open from the outside and hard to flip the switch to lock it. I'm not sure if we got a bad handle or what. Other than that its exactly what I was looking for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Easy. Looked online today at lunch and found this door. It was just what my wife and I had been looking for. After lunch I borrowed my father-in-laws SUV because it wouldn't fit into our V.W.. I went to Home Depot and picked it up and came home and started the project about 3:00 p.m. I removed our old storm door and by about 6:45 I was done. It was really easy and it looks great. Now come the part where I have to teach my two dogs to use it. That should be fun.
