Customer Questions & Answers

can this railing be mounted on the facia?

can this railing be mounted on the facia?
Asked by: ali
Hi Ali. Great question and the answer is yes, however, it does require us to ship you fascia mount EZ Posts instead of the surface mount posts. Simply let us know the number of posts, color, and preferred Home Depot store location. We can also help you with your railing materials list by emailing your project dimensions to support@ezhandrail.com. Thank you for your consideration, Dan H. (EZ Handrail Dev. Team)

Does EZ make a slanted rail for staircase applications as I have installed all EZ rails around my deck and want it to match?
Asked by: Paul
Hi Paul. The stair rail and straight rail kits are the same. Below are the instructions on how to fabricate and install stair rails. Step 1: Stair railings are constructed by mitering (cutting) the top and bottom of each baluster (spindles) to the slope of your stair run. For instance, if your stair run is sloped at 34 degrees, simply set your miter saw* for 34 degrees and cut. IOS and Android phones offer apps to help determine your stair slope - refer to the EZ Handrail 1” Sq. Baluster Instructions on page 13-14 for details. Or, you may manually determine the stair slope by mounting the bottom rail and holding the baluster perpendicular to the stair tread (step) and make an angled pencil mark where the bottom rail crosses the baluster. Step 2: Next, fasten the top and bottom rails (factory drilled for code compliant spacing) to the mitered balusters with the provided fasteners (1.5" hex head screws). Step 3: Lastly, place EZ Pivot Mount Brackets for Stairs (model# ezpmhb for textured black, sold separately) over the ends of the top and bottom rails and fasten in place between your stair posts. Notes: Home Depot offers a great inexpensive miter saw that easily cuts all EZ Handrail aluminum railing components. I recommend using the Diablo 60-tooth carbide tipped WOOD saw blade. DO NOT USE a metal cutting blade - it overheats the cut yielding a very rough finish. I have an 80" span between (2) 6 x 6 posts and want to cut and mount a 22" section to each post then add a EZ 3x3 post with EZ 36" gate in the middle. Is that do-able? Can I get smaller sections? say 48"?
Asked by: Keca
Hi Keca. Unfortunately, the shortest railing length we offer is this 6' kit. You are spot-on with the solution; I wish I could offer a more advantageous configuration. Thank you for your consideration, Dan H. (EZ Handrail Dev. Team)

Straight runs are extremely easy. Stairs are more challenging and require all balusters to be cut at the stair angle. Invest in a chop saw and blade to cut aluminium; $140 compared to $1000's for railing is totally worth it. Also, there is an online recommendation for the 3x3 posts, take it. I purchased posts near 2-3" taller, because it wasn't clear what the railing dimensions really were. I may end up chopping 3" off the post's top to give a more uniform appearance. Someone else recommended an additional screw to hold the railing to the post mounts. If you do this, do it only on one side; thermal expansion can rip your deck apart.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good American made product The railings were put on a second floor roof deck 7'x18'x7', no stairs, and it took two people all day. They were pretty easy to cut to length and assemble, but be warned, you should download the newest instructions from the manufacturer website as the ones that came in the box were incorrect in a couple of details. 1. Holes to anchor the posts to the deck bracket should not be drilled one above the other at 3/4" and 1 1/4". There is not enough room to use washers and the bolt heads nearly touch. The downloaded instructions describe the bolts as installed at 90% to each other. A more secure approach. 2. Railing mounts do not have bolt holes in the casting to secure the railing to the mount. The only predrilled holes secure the mount to the post. They should be drilled and the railing screwed to the mount also, so the railings do no float between the posts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice looking but not so EZ Nice looking when finished but took a lot of assembly. Posts come separate and several of welded plates were bent and had to be straightened. Angles are tricky and require separate hardware. Strongly recommend using a power miter saw with good fine tooth blade. Instructions not so clear - need more info on post-rail assembly on stairs and odd angles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded Expectations This purchase exceeded my expectations. I was looking for a rust-resistant solution to my balcony railing. This product shipped quickly, was very easy to install, and looks great. You can find cheaper options, but I think this was worth the money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Misleading The picture show the posts on either end, however when the part was shipped we learned that these NEEDED parts are not included. VERY VERY VERY misleading. This was ordered online then we had to drive over 50 miles to return it to the store to find they don't even carrry these parts. Very, very, very poor.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bronze REALLY???? This handrail is not bronze!! It would better be described as a charcoal or deep gray. Maybe they labeled the box wrong, but beware!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product This railing turned out to be a beautiful addition to my front deck. It took a while to get it together as it was in pieces when I got it. The contractor said it was easier in pieces because he had to customize the length to fit my deck. Shipping was fast and the driver took it right to the deck for me. A little on the pricey side but beautiful nonetheless.
