I cut and assembled this railing unit this week for placement between the corner of the house and a column on the deck outside our kitchen, where the drop-off was enough to require a railing for code and safety.
When assembled, the railing is remarkably sturdy...as sturdy as you would want, in comparison to a cheap prefab, riveted railing at a local builder's supply. As directed by the instructions, I cut the length as needed using a 60 tooth (carbide) wood saw blade in my chop saw. I was skeptical about using a wood blade and not a metal once, but it cut the aluminum easily for a clean finish that did not require any filing to clean up the cut. Be aware: you'll get aluminum flakes flying through the air, so do this where it will be easy to clean up after yourself with a shop-vac.
Each vertical is attached with two metal screws on each end, creating a very secure and tight connection. After all are attached, the top rail snaps on, covering the screws. After mounting to your posts or walls, do not omit the final step of drilling holes through the four brackets and attaching the self-tapping metal screws. This step firmly secures the railing to the brackets, eliminating any movement or rattle... giving the final installation a really solid feel.
My only quibble is that everything was black except for the screws provided for attachment to wood posts... which were shiny metal and make the entire installation look cheesy. I'll be painting those 8 screw heads black soon. Also, the instructions don't specify - at the step where you need it - what size drill bit to use for the various post-attachment screws, or for the metal screws that secure the rail into the bracket. Finally, certain illustrations in the instructions could have had zoomed-in details... rather than vaguely pointing to the entire assembly.
Not stated in the product description is that the finish is glossy. (The 'textured' in the product name refers to the dimpled appearance of the top rail.) That was my wife's only disappointment - we had hoped for a satin finish.
Packaging was very good and showed no damage... but after unpacking all of the pickets, one was mashed in at the end... clearly damage coming directly from the factory. After trimming, I had two pickets left over, so the damaged one did not affect my installation. Had I needed the full 8' length, I would have had to contact the factory for a replacement.
Recommended. In fact, I'm about to order another unit for our front deck.

I was impressed with how well the item was packaged for shipping which resulted in absolutely no damage to the product. Item is of excellent quality, easy to assemble (good instructions and everything fit!), sturdy and looks great. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone...plus, it's made by a USA company!

The railing on my elevated deck needed replacement. I started looking at a typical wood post and rail. the wooden spindels Spindles were 2$ each so i looked at metal rails. These 8 foot rails i could only find at Home Depot. i was nervous about the installation but it turned out to be failry easy. I used 4X6 wood posts and used the provided hardware and screws to mount them. There were plenty of screws provided. The mounting was very simple. The black rails blend in so much better with the trees and grass than the wooden ones did. Instead of looking around the railing you actually see thorugh it.
I had to cut it to length using my chop saw with a carbide blade. I bought a metal cutting blade but didn't use have to use it. Cuts were clean and easy.
If you are planning on using thsi for an angled stairway it will take you some time to install as you will need to cut each spindle individually.
This is a product and is very sturdy.
