Customer Questions & Answers

Do you seed first then lay the turf over it?

Can you let kids and dogs run on it while the seeds are germinating?
Asked by: Doglady9401
I think the instructions say to seed first, but I have done it both ways depending on time of year. The holes are big enough for seeds to fall through, but they might not get covered by soil. The growth rate is pretty good even if you seed afterward. Either way, it will help the grass grow with less water. You can also use it over sod. I have dogs, ducks and chickens. It is ideal for pets and traffic. The mesh protects the seeds from birds and keeps the chickens from scratching. The dogs will lay on it if it's not too hot, but they like it better after the grass grows through. I use short native grasses with mine.

So do you have to mow it?

And if so, how does the synthetic park not get cut by the mowing blades?
Asked by: Michelle
You have to mow if you use it as per the instructions and install it over seed or sod. Unless you use a very short grass like Native Buffalo. Even then, you will need to mow the seed stalks. I have mowed many times without any movement. I used the long green biodegradable stakes instead of metal pins.

is this 6 1/2 feet wide by 20 feet long? The specifications are'n't clear.

Can you please clarify the size of the piece?
Asked by: Carlsbad
That's the installed size, or the amount of ground it will cover if installed as instructed. It is a stretchy mesh, so it could be a little longer and narrower, or shorter and wider depending on how you stretch it. We it was delivered, I think the roll was only about 5' long all wrapped up.

Customer Reviews

6-1/2 x 20 ft. Artificial Grass Synthetic Lawn Turf is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good! Dogs love it. In a rental so wanted to manage expenses yet have something very cool and durable to make the backyard attractive but the dogs wouldn't kill right away. The stuff is easy to install. It really gives a good foundation and all the dirt they would track in the house is nonexistent anymore. Been about 10 days and the grass is starting to come through and I'm really happy with the purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my duck pen. I bought this for my duck pen and for the the transition from my driveway gate to my backyard. The "turf" allowed the real grass to grow through quickly from seed and already started grass. It keep the ducks' flat feet from mashing the grass into the mud from all the rain we've had. It also keeps the chickens from scratching up the grass and seed. I have the sticky "black gumbo" mud and this keeps the ground stable even with standing water. I haven't tried to drive on it yet, but it should help once the sod is established and it's a little drier. I'll probably buy more to make a path from my sidewalk to my pond and chicken coop. If my yard wasn't so big, I'd do the whole back yard. It is great for high traffic areas. When it comes, it is not 6.5 feet wide until you stretch it out on the ground and stake it. If you don't fully stretch the width, it will give you some extra length. If you don't stretch it out enough, you won't get the open space for the real grass. I needed 12' of width in my duck pen, so I got about 18" or so of extra length I cut off to make a little path by the door. I didn't measure anything, so don't take my measurement as exact.
