Customer Reviews

EZtrak (Z225) 42 in. 18.5 HP Zero-Turn Riding Lawn Mower - California Compliant-DISCONTINUED is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Came assembled missing a major bolt and brake rods were too long and maladjusted. Extremely light duty mower. Suited for manicured city lawns. Functionality is great. Mower deck height adjustment is and always has been a source of grief. The deck will not "easily" raise from lowest to highest positions. It gets extremely difficult up past 2" adjustment. The brake adjustment rods were too long and maladjusted from day one. I had to cut 2" off the left side rod and almost 3" off the right side rod. When the brakes were applied, the end of both rods were trying to puncture the tires. I have had to reinforce the edge of the mower deck to keep it from bending under the deck if a root or low spot were hit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Mower My Z225 is 5 years old. I have mowed 4.5 acres of lawn and fields for five years! I never intended to use or abuse this mower on 4.5 acres. I just wanted to mow My main lawn of about 1/2 acre. I finally purchase a large finish mower that fits on my tractor to mow the fields. I no longer will be abusing this z225 mowing the whole property! This is the lowest model of J.D's zero turn line. I can not say enough about this mower. Its fast and bullet proof.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second Year Review Update I am completing my second year with the John Deere Z225. My first year end review can also be found here. My second summers use of this product simply reinforces what I have already said. This machine is a good value, does everthing I need well and has not exibited any mechanical problems. The only problem I have experienced pertains to the exhaust system and Deere needs to correct this. The Z225s muffler is mounted close to the ground. Obviously, the muffler gets very hot. If the operator stops the machine for a period of time, the grass directly under the muffler shield becomes scorched and turns brown. A heat resistent shield would correct this problem. This however would only be an issue on a highly manicured lawn. I recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Zero Turn Service The Z225 was purchased to mow a residential size lot planted with high quality, manicured zoysia grass with lots of obstacles. With one season of experience, this machine has proved to be a practical solution to mow a lawn that is too large for a walk-behind where obstacles prevent the convienient use of less maneuvarable tractor mowers. The cut provided by this unit is surprisingly clean, and neat, especially when using the optional bagger. The appearance of the freshly cut lawn is even and does not display high or low areas. The Z225 starts easily, the controls work well and handling is excellant after getting the hang of zero turn. The ergonomics have worked well for me at 71 inches tall. The 18.5 horsepower engine works well with plush zoysia as long as the cut does not exceed 1/2 inch dry grass with the bagger. A little more height can be cut without a bagger. The mower is somewhat louder than I would like. Hearing protection is prudent. Fuel economy is reasonable, considering a lot of ground can be covered quickly. The Z225 is sturdily built when compared to other makes in this price range. The cost of the Z225 is a few hundred dollars more than some other competitor units but appears to be money well spent. John Deere has likely produced the best zero turn mower available for those applications requiring a 42 inch deck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lawnmower The motor runs better then expected! It will mow very thick and tall grass with hardly no struggle! I think everyone should have on of these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product I've owned the Z225 for three years. I mow my 3/4 acre residential lawn (centipede). I purchased/installed the optional rear bumper & hitch assembly & they both work great - solid pieces of steel & well made. I change oil each year, clean air breather/filter & lubricate according to maintenance manual specifications. I have had zero issues with Z225. Extremely well made product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cheaply made and overpriced For the price you would expect sturdy construction. With the name of John Deere on it you would expect durability. Not so. I had one of the wheels that keeps the deck from scalping the yard fall off and go under the deck and bend a blade. Now what? I won't buy another one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Mower if you stay off steep hills This Mower is a little bad-boy lightning grass killer. Word to the 'not-so-wise".... Read your operator's manual. 90% of the bad reviews I've read all complain about gas draining into the crank case. Yes, this will happen if you mow on an incline greater than 10%. Symptoms I've witnessed are: causes engine acceleration, clouds of smoke, and then engine temperature to skyrocket. After 7 years of use, this has happened 5 times (multiple operators not 'in the know" about the incline rule). After the 3rd time, mower began a very slowly oil leak from below (likely a correlation here because of when the leak began). Eventually, after 7 years, it appears the seals have gone completely (spewed oil after it killed), and now it won't run. I gave the 'Value' attribute of this review a '3' for this reason (taking into consideration our contribution to the problem, by operating the mower on a steep incline, briefly, 5 times). Will follow up with another review after I confirm the problem, and fix it.
