We spray all of our jobs. It's not a hard job at all. It's pretty easy. Just remember to wear proper protective wear

Does it matter what color the concrete is before you start?

I'm thinking of using this on my stoop that was poured last spring. It's kind of a dark grey. Well, not DARK, but it's definitely not the lighter gray/almost white that I'm used to seeing. So, how much does the original color matter when choosing a stain color?
Asked by: MHanzelka
It matters a lot, when the concrete is wet you can see the average overall color you are working with. You will be limited to to colors that are near or darker than the wet concrete since this is a reactive stain and not a paint or solid coating that layers color on a surface. Once the stain is applied and bonds you are married to it for better or worse unless you diamond disk sand the top layer off and they you may as well just continue to a polished finish and seal.

Concrete surface - smooth or rough?

I want to apply an acid stain to my patio and was wondering if the surface needs to be smooth or can I acid stain it even though the concrete slab has the usual patio roughness? Please advise. Thanks

Then I applied a fourth coat. While the fourth coat was semi-dry, I used a hand sander and sanded away the surface to give it a marble look with veins. I also took a wet rag and smeared the coat a bit. If you just remove the excess you'll get the finish in the product photo. I used H&C Concrete Sealer, Gloss, which was easy to use and gave the floor a shiny look. I tried others and was disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great results, more work than expected. I couldn't be happier with my driveway, but I worked very hard to get it that way. I ordered the rustic brown, and diluted it 1:1 with water to achieve the color you see in the picture. I pressure washed and cleaned the concrete with the degreaser before hand. Sprayed the stain (2 gallons diluted to make 4), then let it dry. The hardest part was the washing and neutralizing after this. It took maybe an hour to stain the entire driveway, and about 6 to clean it up. After applying the gloss coats the driveway looks amazing and I get compliments on it every day. Over estimate the amount you need as I barely finished the job while over estimating.

I will say as others have, this is a very time intensive project. It's not necessarily complicated- just tedious and time consuming. Be ready for MANY floor cleanings. But if you are patient, it will pay off huge. We absolutely love our floor. I have a blog posting all about our basement project if you'd like to read more about it. Mostly as far as process goes, we followed the tutorials that Eagle had provided and also made sure to read all the bottles many times. Can't stress enough that preparation is the biggest key in this project. Here's the link to my blog! https://wiscomichiganlife.com/2017/07/07/the-basement-saga/

I ended up having to cover the whole patio w a traditional concrete stain. Disappointing and a lot of wasted time and effort.

Rustic acid stain is fantastic. I read all the customer reviews/comments on the Home Depot page, ordered the cleaner degreaser/neutralizer, etch and clean for concrete, rustic concrete acid stain, and finally the clear coat/seal. Overall, the process was - as shared by customers - long, but very easy. The step that takes the longest is rinsing the neutralizer after the acid stain step. It took about 6 rinses before the water ran clear. The clear coat really makes the color pop. You must wait until all the steps are done for the final color to shine! I recommend the Eagle products. One final item, you must order the products online. I mistakenly thought I could walki into a Home Depot store, but not the case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Results not as expected, but very pleased I had a new walkway poured in April and then my driveway and patio poured in May. I prepped and applied the stain to all of them on a mild day in November. The stain reacted completely differently on the walk than it did on the driveway and patio due to different batches of concrete. However, I love the results on both. I used the rustic on the borders and the taupe on the main areas(though Home Depot did not have taupe on the website at the time, I called Eagle products and they swapped out the wheat for the taupe on my order) I also used the Eagle Armor Seal which works well but makes it a bit slippery when wet even with a rough textured float finish.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Acid stain Didn't soak in to the concrete. Did everything they say to do from etching, pressure washing, cleaner & degreaser and scrubbing. Even rented a floor scrubbing machine to make sure concrete was as clean as possible. Stain just sat on top of the concrete. You could scrape it off with your finger. Had to clean it all off, and now going to paint it. Test it on a small area first.
