Customer Questions & Answers

I have a concrete floor that has a high gloss sealer applied. What is the process to remove the sealer

Asked by: Geo
you can grind the surface. high speed, vaccum hepa type grinders will remove a thin surface amount of concrete giving you a blank slate for stain and sealer application.

coverage?

How many square feet will one gallon typically cover, and how many coats?
Asked by: MNiels
Eagle Acid Stain will typically yield 200-400 sq ft depending on porosity of the concrete. Multiple coats can be applied if the desired color is not achieved in the first coat. Remember that applying sealer will darken the Acid Stain. Once you have cleaned the residue from the Acid Staining process, it is best to wet a section with water to determine how the concrete will look when a sealer is applied. Solvent-based sealers typically darken more than water-based sealers.

Will this stain work on a paver patio, that has been cleaned and grinded?

Asked by: Jeff
yes, but it will not delete the original color of the paver. you can always test on a loose paver before attempting the patio.it will probably show two tone layers.

1 gal. Cocoa Concrete Acid Stain is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Professional looking results! Eagle Acid Stain (in Cocoa) worked great for application in my interior entryway. The stain was very easy to apply (I used an acid pump sprayer). Proper prep work and testing will ensure a good result (remove any adhesive, use degreaser/acid neutralizer if applicable). You will also need the acid neutralizer to stop the acid from reacting when finished. There are many opportunities for creativity when staining including masking the concrete and diluting the stain for different tones (as pictured). I finished with Eagle Armor Seal Urethane Water-based Sealer. It provides a semi-gloss finish for those who don't want a wet look. I am very satisfied with this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for true DIYers. Currently, I am in the middle of finishing my basement. Being a DIY kind of guy, I wanted the true look of an acid stain but didn't want to pay someone else to do what seemed like a doable task for me. After much research, I decided to go with this product. The job was a success but there were some things I wanted to share that would be helpful for the next job. First of all, follow every step the manufacturer gives you in preparing your surface. That being said, for the whole project, I put five different products on my floor; etcher, acid, neutralizer, sealer, and polish. Don't be afraid of what some people say about the etching solution. You really do need it and does not negatively affect the color. Next, follow all instructions provided. Read over them several times before you start, they can be a little confusing. One thing the instructions aren't clear on is how heavy the acid should be applied. I used a simple, cheap pump sprayer to apply it. The spray was what i would call fine. If you want the color to look like the brochure, i recommend a heavier spray, roughly the same as your kitchen sink hand sprayer. Also, using a sponge mop for all your cleanup will save you a lot of time. In summary, having no prior experience with this sort of thing, the product worked great and as advertised. I would recommend this to anyone DIYer who wants to save a little money in a remodel. Just be prepared for a lot of mopping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Wonderful The stain goes on very easy, just pour it directly into a pump-up sprayer and get after it. The product was orange inside the bottle, bright acid-yellow when it first hit the concrete, black the next day, and finally turned perfect cocoa brown after I degreased and rinsed the slab. I stained a 30' x 30' slab in under an hour with about 4.5 gallons of stain. I've never stained concrete before, but this was really easy. Also, I used a push broom to try to even out some of the color, but I probably did more harm than good in doing so.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth the time to apply. This step was the simplest to apply. I did this in my basement and the only thing I didn't anticipate was how much water you are putting down and taking up during the whole process. All in all, a good result and the pride of a job well done. When you first put it down, it looks orange, but let it cure and you'll be alright (see pictures)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cocoa acid stain on block wall We wanted an inexpensive, rustic look for our new concrete block retaining walls that would help them blend in with the surrounding desert soil and rock. Since the air and blocks were very dry, we diluted it by mixing one quart of the Cocoa acid stain with 3 quarts of water and applying with an inexpensive plastic garden sprayer. The mottled effect and color were exactly what we wanted. It looks darker when wet and lighter when dry. In some places, after drying, we wanted it a little darker so gave those spots another light spraying. Application and cleanup were quick and easy.
