Product Overview

Eagle Acid Stains create marbled variations of color on cured concrete by chemical reaction with the minerals in the concrete. Every concrete floor will react with its own unique pattern. Once sealed with clear sealer, your floor will pop with an elegant look. Because acid staining is a tedious process, Eagle concrete dyes should be considered if a simple process is important.

Does it matter what color the concrete is before you start?

I'm thinking of using this on my stoop that was poured last spring. It's kind of a dark grey. Well, not DARK, but it's definitely not the lighter gray/almost white that I'm used to seeing. So, how much does the original color matter when choosing a stain color?
Asked by: MHanzelka
It matters a lot, when the concrete is wet you can see the average overall color you are working with. You will be limited to to colors that are near or darker than the wet concrete since this is a reactive stain and not a paint or solid coating that layers color on a surface. Once the stain is applied and bonds you are married to it for better or worse unless you diamond disk sand the top layer off and they you may as well just continue to a polished finish and seal.

Concrete surface - smooth or rough?

I want to apply an acid stain to my patio and was wondering if the surface needs to be smooth or can I acid stain it even though the concrete slab has the usual patio roughness? Please advise. Thanks

1 gal. Rustic Concrete Acid Stain is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 62.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product After watching few videos on how to stain (it looks so easy ) i bought this product. First its not all that easy as it sounds and looks. You will need a lot of time cause takes time to prep etch dry neutralize wash off dry again betwen coats etc... Product does do the job. You will need 2 gallons for 400sqft garage. In HD store they sold me Muriatric acid for etching saying that i need this before i stain ( while i was waiting order to come in mail i cleaned and etch with acid , next day order came on and first thing it said DO NOT USE ACID TO ETCH) Went to store with instructions to ask them why they said Acid etch is must. Wanted to be sure that i didnt screw something up(and i did). The guy who sold me the Acid made excuse that he ment for Behr stainer you need to use Acid :(. Its to late now. It did good job but would be much better if i didnt kill all crystals in concrete with Acid etching process. For first coat dont soak it wet it takes forever to clean neutralize. Lost of Amonnia water and washing off. It came out pretty cool. Im happy over all. Just wish i didnt used that Acid to etch.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good Reactive Acid Stain for New and Old Concrete The Eagle Acid Stain performed very well on both new and 30 year old concrete. The custom precast concrete post bases were complimented nicely by the Rustic Stain and gave the "Pop" factor I wanted. Use a stiff plastic bush to massage the acid onto the concrete sides to prevent flow lines. Use same brush on top surface as well. Will use product again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rustic Concrete Acid Stain by Eagle The final result is absolutely breath taking. The process: We tried 4 different colors of concrete acid stain on a 4 month old newly poured slab. The four colors chosen were, Rustic, Bronze, Copper and Coco of the acid stains. We prepped the floor with TSP for washing and we thought the acid stain reacted better with the concrete using the TSP than the Eagle acid cleaner. We learned that acid stains reacts uniquely with each slab of concrete. The Copper appeared more Amber color, the Coco appeared dark gray, the Bronze was more red in color and the Rustic was the color we looking for. It looked somewhat like the bronze sample color. You never know for sure how your stain will react and look until you do a sample area. I suggest you trying the samples in a closet or pantry area. Each color received about a two and a half by six feet of stain. We let the stain dry for about 48 hours then neutralized with Eagle degreaser neutralizer with added ammonia and some baking powder. It is absolutely breath taking. Looks like a polished piece of rock with veins and all the natural beauty of natural stone. Used the Eagle Floor polish and applied it with a very large yellow microfiber pad. Found an extra large tray to use with the microfiber mop at Home Depot. Very pleased with how the floor looks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great results, more work than expected. I couldn't be happier with my driveway, but I worked very hard to get it that way. I ordered the rustic brown, and diluted it 1:1 with water to achieve the color you see in the picture. I pressure washed and cleaned the concrete with the degreaser before hand. Sprayed the stain (2 gallons diluted to make 4), then let it dry. The hardest part was the washing and neutralizing after this. It took maybe an hour to stain the entire driveway, and about 6 to clean it up. After applying the gloss coats the driveway looks amazing and I get compliments on it every day. Over estimate the amount you need as I barely finished the job while over estimating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as expected. Power washing took the longest, over an hour. Spraying the stain was fast and easy. neutralizing and scrubbing was by far the hardest and longest step. The gloss sealer I used didn't come out of the sprayer in a fine enough mist to use by itself so I had my brother use a roller as I sprayed the concrete sealer/gloss. Overall I am happy with the project.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Results not as expected, but very pleased I had a new walkway poured in April and then my driveway and patio poured in May. I prepped and applied the stain to all of them on a mild day in November. The stain reacted completely differently on the walk than it did on the driveway and patio due to different batches of concrete. However, I love the results on both. I used the rustic on the borders and the taupe on the main areas(though Home Depot did not have taupe on the website at the time, I called Eagle products and they swapped out the wheat for the taupe on my order) I also used the Eagle Armor Seal which works well but makes it a bit slippery when wet even with a rough textured float finish.
