I've never used a heat gun before. I usually use stripper for removing paint but wanted to give this a try because of a recommendation. The pictures below show a vintage piece of siding with many coats of paint. Just plug it in and it's good to go in seconds. You can see the paint bubble up before your eyes. Scrap it off with the included putty knife and you're ready for a fresh coat of paint. Would not necessarily be good for wood you wanted to clear coat cause the wood does burn if you're not careful. But that also is another use for this gun. Aging or wood burning. Comes with many attachments in a convenient plastic carrying case and the instructions say it's good for many other applications. Happy with this heat gun and the price is reasonable.

The Earlex HG1500 comes in a fully self contained in plastic carry case. Trigger high/low is automatic, well nearly. Pressing the top of trigger is high & bottom is low. Trigger stays on until pressed to neutral, off. The high blower is about perfect, not too strong but just enough to efficiently transfer the heat. Comes with 4 useful nozzles a long scraper with 3 interchangeable scraper blades and a separate flat scraper that is fairly long to keep hand away from heat. High heat is 1110 F and can even be used for soldering copper pipe.

This is a very nice, complete heat gun set. The variety of tips allows you to select the right application of heat for the job. They also provide you a good assortment of scrapers to get into every nook and cranny; especially those associated with wood moulding.
I used this on a strip of door casing. The piece has about five layers of paint. The heat gun quickly heated up the paint all the way down to the surface and allowed a quick removal of all layers.

The accessory kit that this heat gun comes with is very nice. Plenty of scrappers and adapters to direct and channel the hot air to exactly where you need it to be. The gun gets plenty hot to melt all manner of plastic and quickly dry paint and wet surfaces. This particular heat gun, however has no adjustment for air speed or heat setting. Those are the only drawbacks I could find.

While this is my first heat gun, I could not be more pleased.
This all in one set comes packaged in a rugged molded plastic case.
Every feature and attachment the DIY'er could wanted is included right in the box.
1500 watts pumps out some serious heat over the two- high and "low-er"- temperature settings.
Build quality of the heat gun itself is very good, with nice ergonomics on the grip and a quality power-cord. I have little doubt that this will prove a durable tool.
The power switch features a membrane cover, which initially puzzled me, until I was heat-setting some liquid vinyl and had a blob smear right near the switch. Adding that feature makes perfect sense now, I was glad I didn't get any inside the switch thanks to the cover.
I haven't had a chance to try the entire dizzying array of tools yet, but all the ones that I have used have functioned perfectly.
I am currently looking for reasons to use this tool, great job Earlex.

Heat!! I do a lot of heat-shrink splices. My house has layers of old paint. The new siding (not from H-D!) has a lot of knots that won't stop oozing sap.
The Earlex 1500 Watt Heat Gun does what I need. The heat-spreader and lower heat setting shrinks heat-shrink nicely without burning the wires. The focused high heat works amazing-well for cooking sap out of knots so the next coat of paint, stain, or varnish will stay on. High heat with the spreader softens old paint.
Well-constructed. Didn't break after a few drops. Runs steady without cut-out or hot handle. Noisy, but no more than it has to be to deliver this much heat.
You can buy just a heat-gun for less, and that may be what you need. But this model comes with a good carry-case and a comprehensive selection of scrapers, focusers, and spreaders. The scrapers cover a wide variety of flats and curves and grooves. They are simple punched shapes: fine for most work. Really tough or precision work, you should sharpen these edges or go to more specialized architectural scrapers with keen edges. But still good to have all the common shapes handy and stored together.
Cooking a sap-knot in livingroom panelling. The outdoor siding needs it worse, but too cold and dark today to use the camera out there.
Dog-- My dog is a trained camera-hound and stunt-dog. He insisted on posing with the carrying case and scrapers. The heat-gun was UN-plugged for this photo.

I have a hobby that requires me to scrape and sand off old paint and varnish from furniture to restore and refinish the piece. Using this tool, I was able to get off old cracked paint on a cubby that I was distressing. Not having to sand it down was a REAL PLUS this time around! In the l=past, it would take me a very long time to sand it down by hand. Of course I could use a rotary sander or a "mouse" sander, but all too often my pieces are small and or have tooled legs, or ornate work that begs for a smaller tool to help with the removal of the old finish. With the added attachments, I was able to direct the heat into a certain area. I was also able to soften up areas that would then allow me to use my foam sanding blocks with much less work -- and that is a GOOD thing!!!
Happily, this lovely heat gun also came in handy around my home! Every tool needed for removal of paint, plastics, vinyl flooring, even dried on paint splatter, is included in the box, and is now ready to be tackled with this awesome heat gun. We used it to remove paint and old grime from out kitchen cabinets, so we could refinish them - a smooth surface is exactly what we ended up with for a perfect end result!
It will also serve yet another purpose in my craft/art room! Drying paint on a canvas, shrink wrapping gift baskets, melting down waxes for specialty candles,,,you name it - there is a viable needed job for this heat gun!
