It is hard to rate this fairly, as I did not use it, but I did take it out of the box and found it to be a strange combo of a low budget shop vac and a professional looking spray gun. The hose is friction fit, and corrugated plastic, like a shop vac. It is hard to imagine this holding up to much abuse, and surely the corrugated hose will be a devil to clean. The lack of screw together joints for the hose makes me very concerned about the quality of the connection. It looks like a child's toy.

I am amazed at how easy this is to use. No prior experience and my bookshelf looks like I had it professionally done. I was a little nervous at first...just thin down the latex paint with a little water, and practice taking the gun apart a couple times and putting it back together so you are confident, and then you are set. The most important part is to have some laquer thinner on hand so that when you are done you can clean everything with water and run a lot of water through the system until it is all clean, then finish by running some thinner through it. You don't want to leave traces of water in it but the thinner is okay (This advice from my contractor friend and for the latex paint only) The hose does pop out, I prefer this to pulling too hard on the hose and it breaking or cracking over time, just watch what you are doing and it will work well. Still 5 stars as this is not really an issue

Was reluctant to purchase an HVLP system. Talked to several painting professionals and professional paint dealers. They all said that I needed a 4 turbine system to spray latex paint to get a furniture finish.
Did my own research and watched the videos on the internet about this HVLP unit. Well let me tell you it worked great. The best part is the company that sells this unit explains that it is important to get the material you are spraying to a certain viscosity and provide a viscosity cup to make sure you get it right.
Right off the bat I mixed and thinned the water based paint according to the viscosity cup using DISTILLED water, not tap water. Tap water contains contaminates. I used Kelly Moore Dura Poxy. What a great finish. No orange peel, no runs. Just a real nice finish. I painted a particle board tool box case bright red. First with a coat of primer, light sanding and then the final. Could not be happier.
Easy clean up. Works Great and about one third the cost of a 4 turbine unit.
If I ever wear this thing out, I'm going to get another one.
Follow the directions and watch the video that comes with the unit before you start. If you do, and use a good quality paint, you will not be disappointed.

After finally figuring out that the Graco sprayers are way over kill for woodworking projects I purchased the Earlex Spray Station along with the 1,5 mm optional needle kit. After my first attempt at building a custom picture frame I painted it (photo included in this review, but hard to see), After sanding I sprayed the frame with the new Earlex 5500 Sprayer using the 1.5mm needle. It came out great. The thing I like the most is the fact that I can spray inside my small shop with almost no overspray. I just put down some paper right around the project, about 12" around the wood and that's all I needed. With both of my Graco units that is not remotely possible. The spray pattern accuracy of this unit is excellent. On my next project I'm planning on spraying about 48 linear feet of fluted moulding. It took me several hours of tedious hand painting with small brushes the last time I did that project. I'm betting this time it will take less than 15 minutes and will look 3 times better. If you are doing woodworking projects like furniture, cabinets or anything else I highly recommend this product. I count it among my most valuable tools in the wood shop. It's too bad that Home Depot does not sell this in their stores. As of now it's only available online. I think that is a mistake.

This product is so much better than using an airless sprayer. With the quick adjustable tip going from fan to spot is a nice feature when doing tight spots or railings. The only thing negative thing I found about this spray unit is that I waited to long to buy one. Think of all the time it would have saved me!
