For some time now, we have wanted to invest in a rain barrel to provide natural water for our garden and flowers, to save on water cost and to do our part to help the environment. We searched the web for DIY options and watched many YouTube how-to videos and decided upon the EarthMinded DIY Rain Barrel Diverter and Parts Kit. We were happy to find it available at Home Depot at a great price and with free shipping to store. At an equally good price, we purchased a 58 gallon terracotta color food grade barrel from a local food distributor for the rain reservoir.
We installed our EarthMinded DIY Rain Barrel Diverter and Parts Kit this past weekend (7/26) and it was a breeze to install! Perhaps one of the best features of the kit, is that it comes with 3 specific sized hole saw drill bits needed to make the holes in the barrel and gutter downspout for the spigots and drain hose. No special tools are needed outside of what the kit itself provides! The kit instructions were very easy to follow, were detailed and illustrated. The rain barrel kit components (the spigots and rubber seals) were very good quality also. The entire installation process took less than 20 minutes. We performed a quick leak test and were pleased not to find a single drip. Later the same day, after a nice long and heavy rainfall, the barrel was filled to the very top which allowed us to do a true test of the kit and it performed wonderfully as you will see from our photos. We could not be more happy with our new little addition to our back yard!
Thank you Home Depot for a great product!

This kit was so easy to install; It took approximately 10 minutes to install one kit into one barrel. It comes with everything you need except for the actual drill. The drill bits are perfectly sized for the gaskets; which are made of quality material (I will wait and see how long it takes them to dry out and rot - if in fact that ever happens). The bibs and the gaskets are threaded so once you fit the gasket inside the drilled hole, the bib screws in - thus expanding the gasket and forming a watertight seal. Drilling into the gutter was easier then I had anticipated and the overflow/diverter fit right in. I have sealed barrels so I was able to tap into the gutter at a higher point then the top of the barrel. After it recently rained, the barrels are full and the bibs hold the water. I love it! exactly what I needed. I used blue two (2) 55 gal. barrels with one kit in each. Because they are sealed and sunproof, I won't have to worry about algae and mosquitos. Although, I will put mosquito pucks in.....just in case. Just a "heads up" - Drill slowly as you want the disc to stay inside the drill bit and not fall into your barrel (if it's sealed) and you don't want your gutter piece to fall into your downspout (unless you drill it while not connected).

Our garden is at the opposite end of our backyard and water faucet. Since there was a storage shed next to the garden area decided to put up a rain gutter and a rain barrel. The DIY Rain Barrel Diveter and Parts Kit had easy to follow directions and was easy to install. We have a second barrel that catches the overflow from the main barrel. Used the kit for both barrels which made it easier to install and set up the drip system for the garden.

I bought 3 EarthMindedDIY Rain Barrel Diverter and Parts Kits to hook up 3 rain barrels for our Community Garden. The directions were clear and the parts were easy to work with. I appreciate that the manufacturer included drill accessories which made the installation quick and easy. The diverters work very well. The rain barrels fill up and when they are full, excess water goes back into the downspout and down the drain. I don't have to worry about water saturating the foundation which is what happened last year when the rain barrels were connected directly into the downspouts. This product is wonderful and the parts are durable. If we get more rain barrels, I would not hesitate to purchase more diverter kits.

The product was easy to install and maintains the water level in the rain barrel . To install the faucet and the drain plug you should use a 1 inch whole saw rather than 1 1/4 inch included in the kit.

Got a food grade 55 drum and used this kit to make a rain barrel. Easy to setup and comes with the hole saw bits... Only problem was I got steel down spouts, and the hole saw bits are for wood and plastic. So I used the drill bit to cut out the down spout. and once set up, it looked great. The first rain we got was 0.22 inches and it filled the barrel and any over flow went back to the down spout. Very happy and it looks great. Not like the home made ones you would see on youtube. When you buy the parts to do a home made one. This is cheaper and better. I used the drain plug to add a brass water bib and it had a 1/4 inch tap for attaching micro tubing to a float valve. The barrel has 2 bung holes and didn't need to drill or cut those out.
If I want to add another barrel, there is a kit to install it all so.

This kit was a cheap way to save money on the water bill and it feels good to be able to recycle the rain water for my garden. The ease of installation was the best feature, having all the hole saw sizes needed for a water tight installation...I am very happy with this purchase...the plastic valve is the only concern as how long it will last..
