I saw the Model Series 240 Front Tine Tiller sitting at the Home Depot like a new car on the parking lot.It was like love at first site!It works like a dream, easy to clean up and smooth working as it digs up the soil. I often wonder how I ever got along without it. It tilled the whole front yard as if it was working on it's own. I don't just like my tiller...I love it! I think I'll wash and wax it today!

My girlfriend and I bought this tiller a day after using the neighbor's Mantis. The prior day we spent 2 hours tilling one 12x4 bed and in the process wrecked our backs.
We finished the remaining three beds in 2 hours with the Earthquake and the texture of the soil was awesome. The plants should be very happy. Next project... ....eliminate deer, rabbits and ground hogs.

This is a great running machine with some reservations. The greatest plus is that it has never failed to start. You must remember to open the vent on the gas cap. I have used it for garden cultivating, loosening the soil to trench in railroad ties and laying electrical conduit between buildings. So this has become. "ma' liddle pardner"
There is a distinct learning curve to become proficient to keep it from digging in and twisting/turning off path. it is small, light and powerful, but it lacks the good manners of larger tillers. The wheels are very close to the tines. By necessity, the wheel base is narrow and I have often though that it would be better designed with the wheels on terra firma ahead of the tines. It is top heavy and tips easily, as well. I have also noticed that, though the tines are sharp, longer weeds wrap up around the shaft easily-much more easily than they are to get out. This machine has a hand grip to engage the clutch, but It is imperative to shut the machine off to clear the tines.
Probably the biggest gripe I have had with this tiller is the difficulty in actuating the wheel height adjustment. The theory of the design is very good, but in my judgement, there must be a better way.
I give this machine a mediocre rating because this machine replaced an older mini tiller with a cast iron housing extending the tines 18" ahead of the wheels. The distance between wheels and the tines really tamed the mannerisms of the old machine and it was a dream to operate. This is like comparing a well-broke mare to a newly broke stallion.
If you are up to the challenge, it is far better machine than some others on the market

I would like to ammend my previous posting in that after that review I was contacted by Leif Ringstad, Director of Sales for Earthquake. He was very professional and genuinely concerned as to what he could do to make things better. He replaced the cultivator and we are hoping that in the spring we will find that the one we had happened to be a lemon and we will find satisfaction this go around. Thank you Leif for standing by your product.

I have had this for about 2 months now. Have used it for two projects. First was to reseed a patch of ground about 10' x 5' of hard clay and dirt. It took a little work but it handled it just fine. The second project was putting retaining wall brick around my house,it worked perfect for tilling to get the first row down.
Putting the unit together was a snap. Have only had to charge the battery once and that was before the first use. It started right up with the first click of the key and every time since the same way.

I used this tiller to prepare my first vegetable garden. I went from grass lawn to garden ready in about 4 hours and a gallon of gas. The electric start was great. It is light weight and easy to use. It is just the right size for my garden. The keyed electric start saves my back and the lawn edger attachment is a bonus. I would recommend it to anyone.

I've only had the Earthquake electric start mini-tiller a few days, but yesterday I tilled new ground for 5 hours straight and the tiller never skipped a beat. I just had to finally stop to rest. I'll finish the job next week. The electric start worked great. The battery did die on me, but the pull start was soooo easy. I've since recharged the battery for my next use. The ground is old pasture land and is hard as a brick, but the tiller never stopped. Once the ground is tilled, keeping it weedless for my garden will be a breeze with this big little tiller.
