What type of gas is best?

BUYER BEWARE? The manufacturer and other sellers have links to a manual that says the tiller should be stored in a "vertical" position with no diagram to explain what that means. IMHO the tiller pictured above is vertical, AKA upright. I congratulate Home Depot for having a link to a manual that shows the correct storage position and the response I got from the manufacturer (cust. srv) was that the engine is sideways so vertical is with the spark plug facing upward. This means the tiller should be rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise and stored on the gas tank (as Home Depot's link aptly demonstrates). My question is 1) After several folks having trouble with the cylinder locking up and damaging the powerhead, why is it that only Home Depot has a correct diagram showing storage?
Asked by: Curlie
The response from Ardisam sounds like they are in denial? In fact, the link on their own website leads to a manual without a diagram and has simply the misleading, imo, phrase "store in a vertical position" . So it seems they have permission to post on their own website but neglect to update it to match the admittedly correct version found via the Home Depot link. Again, buyer beware! I can only hope the manual included with a new mc440 shows the updated info.

Reversible tines?

One of the features listed under product overview is "reversible tines for cultivating or aggressive digging" . I know this may sound crazy, but I have researched many tillers/cultivators recently to consider which one I should buy. What is the feature of the tines that already come on the tiller if it is not to cultivate or dig into the dirt? Why do they need to be reversed?
Asked by: cookingjoe1
I reversed the tines on mine and could not tell much difference. I was only able to run mine for a total of about 4 hours. I went to use it again and the motor is locked up. It was running fine last time i used it.

There is a engine break in period where there will not be full power. It is great because it should work and last longer than most cultivators of this size. I do have a You tube video of un boxing and using the machine. If you want to just see it in action then got to 1.58 minute on the video. I did not know about the reversing of the tines maybe the work i am doing will be a lot faster. I am trying to level out my backyard but there is a foot in difference, maybe more. Gas is very good, i filled up once and then after around 4 hours there was still a third left.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful! We bought this to cultivate our garden between rows. Chews up the weeds like it needs to. Now we only have to hand-weed in the rows of vegetables. First year in a while that the garden didn't look like a weed patch with vegetables scattered about. This is not a tiller, but a cultivator. It grinds up already tilled dirt to keep down the weeds. Wish we had bought this years ago. Highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely pleased with my MC440 Earthquake cultivator! Very powerful, and lightweight, and it is very easy starting. I am able to start this with ease, usually on the first or second pull. I like that it does not require 2 cycle mixed gas... it runs on regular gasoline. This thing does a great job, even in the harder dirt, and around trees and so on. I am really very pleased with my purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect tool for an old lady! I'm a 60 year old lady and I love this tiller! I put it together, easy! I start it up, easy each time! If you need a tiller that will do the job yet is easy to handle this is the one you want. My flower beds really needed some work and I also am preparing my front yard for sod. All by myself! I started with just a shovel and rake but decided to invest in this tiller. Now I'm almost done. Really worth the money! Great investment!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good little tiller. This cultivator did exactly what we wanted it to do, which was dig up the flower beds that are too big to do by shovel, but too small to use the full size roto-tiller. I really like the 4 cycle engine, because there is no mixing of gas and oil. It is light weight and easy to move from one space to another with just one hand. I haven't been able to use it yet because my husband has laid claim to it, so it is out of my reach until the new wears off for him, but no matter. The beds are ready for fall planting and I didn't have to lift a finger to get it done. LOL. The only reason I gave it only a good rating on the features, was because I thought it had a fold down handle for storage, but I compared so many cultivators before I chose this one, I may have gotten mixed up on that feature. But it really is not a big deal and definitely not a deal breaker. Over all, I am very, very happy with this machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from just what we needed Key word here is cultivator. If a cultivator is what your looking for this is it. If your looking for a tiller you may want to keep looking. Don't get me wrong this is a great little machine. If you have a small garden and have patience it will dig as deep as you want. I use it for LITE tilling, weed control and prepping small flower beds. I like the fact that it's a 4 stroke motor and has a speed control. Another thing thats hard to find on a machine this size is it has a drag bar. To sum it all up, it runs great, starts easy, it's easy to handle and sales for a fair price. I forgot to mention it's also very easy to remove the tines for cleaning. Happy gardening
