Customer Questions & Answers

Extension cord max length?

Specs say 16 ft. max cord length. What happens if you need to use a 50 ft. ext. cord? (I've been able to use the 50 ft. cord on my cheap hand-held B&D trimmer just fine.)

Customer Reviews

18 in. 2.8 Amp Convertible Pole Hedge Trimmer is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 107.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Powerful pole hedge trimmer The 18" Pole Hedge Trimmer was easy to assemble after pulling out of the box and was up and running quickly. It was exceptionally good at clean and crisp cutting of mid to some large size hedges and associated branches. I was impressed with the ease at which it cut through hedges. The swivel action allowed me to cut above my head at a 90 degree angle which was very nice. It was a bit heavy so after 2 hours of trimming it was tiring. Overall it was powerful and efficient to operate.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great But Heavy Cuts well and snaps together easy and quick. Seems well built - time will tell. The cutter head alone whips through the project. When the extension arm is being used, the rig is a bit heavy so overhead use is a bit of a workout. When the extension is used to avoid bending down (cutter at right angle to extension arm), the balance is off making it a chore. You end up holding the arm close to the cutter and then trying to reach back for the trigger at an awkward hand angle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun Tool I like this trimmer because it made it possible to do things I could not do before and made it fun and easy. We had to trim a round tree in front of the house about four feet over the roof line and this gadget made it so much easier than my old straight trimmer that couldn't reach the top. The extension and angle adjustment made the project happen and made the tree look perfectly round.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awkward This is a very awkward device. I knew it would be a little hard to handle but even more so than I thought. I believe if I would have picked it up at the strore, I may have had second thoughts but would have purchased it anyway. I bought it to use fully extended and know that is the worst for handling. The other thing that surprised me a bit is that it does not seem to cut as well as an 18" Craftsman unit that I have. This one looks like it will cut thicker branches than the Craftsman (5/8" vs 3/4") but it doesn't seem to move through smaller diameter branches as well. Bottom line, if you need the extension, you probably cannot get better than this for the price. Just figure you will need to take breaks while using the unit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall a good tool but not great. As far as corded pole hedge trimmers are concerned this trimmer stands alone. At best, it is a poor compromise between an ordinary hand-held trimmer and a pole extension. As a handheld trimmer it handles and performs well. With the trimmer attached to the top of the extended pole it is heavy and best used in the vertical position. The convertibility from a pole trimmer to a hand-held trimmer is a good feature and easy to do. For hedges within the comfortable height range of this product extended it's not bad at all. In my case I am tasked with trimming 200 feet of oleanders with a height of 16 feet in some places. So the Earthwise trimmer is one of several tools that I use. I would much rather have a pole trimmer with the motor at the bottom with a harness and a hook. I suppose that there is one out there but I couldn't find it. In the final analysis it's a good product but's not a great one. As a hand-held trimmer it is very good. As a extended pole trimmer it's OK but be prepared for a workout.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Extendable hedge trimmer It does work very good. The biggest drawback is it is awkward to use when it is fully extended. It's too heavy and way unbalanced when it is fully extended to reach the back tops of my evergreen bushes. Also, the cutters don't go all the way to the end, so in my case, I couldn't get the evergreen branches that were resting against the brick front of the house. I did not try to angle the head downward, I kept it straight, that might have helped.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great reach! But bring your muscles!! This did the trick to trim up some out of reach shrubs with out the ladder. Quick and sharp out of the package. Only issue I had is it is heavy than I expected, but for the price, should not be surprised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Hedge Trimmer This is a very versatile hedge trimmer: use it as a standard hand held or attach the extension pole and extend your reach while staying safely on the ground. The option to angel the hedge trimmer while on the extension makes topping a hedge very easy. A little bit heavy, but all in all it is a great tool.
