Will this work to control weeds under soil and mulch?

Asked by: MelMel
Black thick Plastic and then cover it with Bark Mulch has work the best for me. The fabric has big air holes in it and I never wanted to use it. Burlap Fabric let light and air go threw it to the grown. I wouldn't use it.

I use it to keep my plants cooler yet let in some light. I believe it will slow it down.

I would like to use this across the top of an arbor to provide shading. What do you think?

Asked by: needshade
Seems like a good idea. Might also be a nice size for that - 3' x 24'. So you wouldn't have to cut any of it? It is a nice light weave and not too dense.

This fabric is very easy to work with, and you can cut it up for smaller areas. I used the 4 or so inch staples to attach to ground. I installed the fabric in several areas after I put down grass seed. I wasn't successful in growing new grass, due to a lot of rain, and the areas I was trying to seed were challenging due to rain washing it away all the time. Maybe I need to do topsoil or some kind of seed patch and then install the fabric over that? I lost patience with having to mow around the patches. I still think this is a nice product and saw no others that would have been better. I think it would definitely protect areas within the lawn that won't get washed away, and protect from birds or people walking on it. Just have to be patient. And make sure you get all the staples from the ground when you remove it.

We bought three rolls of this burlap to protect our shrubs from hungry deer over the winter. We were very disappointed upon opening the first roll - the burlap was so loosely woven and flimsy you could see clearly right through it. We had to proceed with it anyway and went on to wrap the shrubs. The second roll was equally loose and flimsy. Not at all what we had expected - not something that looked like it would survive the winter. Then we opened the third roll to finish the final shrubs and were amazed to see that roll was much thicker and more tightly woven than the other two rolls. This was what we had expected - sturdy and not see through. That one roll of burlap looks like it will last the winter. The first two rolls have only been up less than two weeks and already show signs of deteriorating - the thicker roll is holding up well. Can't recommend that kind of inconsistency.

I'm using it to provide evening shade for my Raspberries it was great it doe not stop all the light but just enough to keep the soil cooler yet the plants get plenty of light with out the heat. Worked better than I thought it would. Plus it is kind of tough light I used clothes pins to hold it in place. Will be needing more.

I put 3/4" holes in the bottom and line them with this Bjurlap Fabric so it will hold the soil better and still let drain good. It is natural and bio degrade in time. I looks better than News Papper too.
