Customer Questions & Answers

what are the inside and outside measurements of these grommets

Can you snap them together with your hand?
Asked by: Dee
Outside = 1.25", Inside = 3/8" But there seems to be a quality control issue, so I would guess there is +/- 1/16" Buy twice as many as you need. Half of mine broke due, I believe, that variation. :-(

how far apart to you need to put the grommets on a 20 foot length of Sun Screen Fabric, using hook or nails to hold onto the grommets

Asked by: Mack
The instructions don't say, at least not any that I read. And I would think it would depend on the load, i.e., the expanse of fabric pulling on each grommet and how hard they are pulling. The fabric is very light, so it would be wind pressure that you would be most concerned about. If I would putting up a 6x20 parallel to the ground, I would put grommets every 3 feet. However, if I were putting it perpendicular, I would put them every 2 feet, to lessen the load of the wind pressure on each one. And, FYI, buy twice as many as you need; quality control appears to be an issue.

Three of the first five installed cracked/broke. I have used some polypropylene grommets before and they held up. I am looking for some of those to redo what I have installed and finish my project. These did not work for me.

Despite careful placement, thin (Easy Gardener Sun Screen) fabric, and attempts to hammer gently, 5 out of 10 tops split. And my poor fingers! There is no way to hold the grommet in place to hammer without getting fingers pinched.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Peasy I used these to create a sliding overhead shade for the new sun-room and they work a treat. Super easy to install in the shade cloth, if you are going to do more than 2 layers, (corners), it is best to mark and cut a slit in the shade cloth to feed the post side into. They slide really easily on the cable that I'm using as tracks and look fine. This was an easy project with the help of these grommets.

Six of the snap grommets broke while installing on their own fabric. Two of those rings broke just pressing the retaining rings on with my thumbs. I didn't even get to use a hammer. Additionally, the instructions were not very clear as to which way the rings should face. I eventually noticed the detail in the small images.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use I'm using the grommets on the Sun Screen Fabric I got from Home Depot. The grommets are plastic construction and appear to be well made. The product is easy to use, all you need is a hammer and follow the simple installations provided. Since the grommets are plastic they should not rust and should hold up in the hot summers and cold winters of Northern Arizona.

Directions required a firm tap with a hammer to engage both sides of the plastic grommets. 4 out of the 10 grommets cracked when I tried to do that. Time to buy real metal grommets.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The material is way to soft The material is too soft to be a good locking device. You need to make the top and bottom prefect align before you hammer it down to lock the fabric in between, I had been very careful about this after I lost the first set. I still lost 4 sets of 10 sets in this process. After you clamp the fabric in between, it works fine to hold the fabric in place. I just wish they use must stronger plastic for this. It is about 5 dollars for 20 pieces of plastic. They can afford a little bit in materials.
